My business partner says his joint in Stephenville has been very snakey this fall.   He was stumbling along and got surprised by a copperhead that struck at his leg and thankfully caught the very top of his boot throat.

Flipped a board just outside of Austin and found 2 Coachwhips and one Western Diamondback.  The buzz worm tagged one of the coachwhips and he took of.  I can't find anything definitive on whether thei

I thought I was going to find a bunch of cool snakes today.  Only saw two ribbon snakes.  However, one was being eaten by a hawk, so that is pretty cool.  Not the best or sharpest shots, but still coo

Stick him again with that fork and then cut it up into six inch pieces.

Not sure why you'd ruin a perfectly good fork, but you do you.

Maybe them Austin snakes are a little more civilized than country snakes. Cottonmouths here are bitey, just have to be aware when you are in their territory. I'm on a plateau where you never see a cottonmouth unless its by total accident. 8 mile south of me on the river they are thick and they all seem to be ill mannered. The largest cottonmouth I ever saw was at the Fort Worth zoo. Head the size of a big mans fist. Sr. trip---years ago. We got to go to six flags and the zoo. First time I ever saw a live concert. Charlie Daniels in the Six Flags amphitheater. Most there were rednecks like us but a few were burning calf rope.

Burning calf rope?

is this some redneck reference to marijuana smoking ?

I saved a hognose this weekend from the hoe. Educated a neighbor in the value of non venomous snakes.

Is it wrong to be a redneck?

And yes, before, poly and nylon, rope used to be made of grass----hemp, ditch weed.

Nope, I come from a long line of proud, Rednecks.  Just never heard that specific term before.

This guy is out late. On the front steps, I walked within a couple feet of him before I saw him, then my dog walked right over him. Crazy lucky she didn’t get bit.

Relocated away from the house

It is over 80 degrees here in Austin.  Would not be surprised to see one around here right now.

Interdasting.  That appears to be a female as males are pretty brightly colored.

Boom is Dutch for tree, slang for snake.  Name checks out.

Assuming you are in Texas or the Southern US, banded water snake.

I was going to guess Diamondback Water Snake.  They look very similar.  Somewhat surprisingly, they are different species of Nerodia.

The Diamondback has a slightly more western range than Banded, but both seem to be present in Texas.

If you ever find a live snake on a glue trap, you can remove it with vegetable oil.  Just don't put it around its mouth because it could drown.

I guess I just assumed it was already dead. But hopefully not and it can be freed.
