I have to ask - what is the worst bite you’ve ever received from your buddy?   My friend was tagged from time to time by his snake being excited that a rat was about to be dropped in his tank - the snake would sometimes strike as rat-chow was about to be dropped, miss and grab his hand.  Which he said was not pleasant and that the teeth are designed so that the prey cannot pull out of the bite so easily.

I was never bitten until the past few years, twice. Both times were exactly what you said. Dropping in a rat (dead) and being dumb about it. Both times I was under the influence. Don’t drunk snek feed.

That said, they weren’t bad. He has little needle teeth on the roof of his mouth that grip the prey as it goes down. But he doesn’t hold on or anything when he realizes I’m not food.

I thought I was going to find a bunch of cool snakes today.  Only saw two ribbon snakes.  However, one was being eaten by a hawk, so that is pretty cool.  Not the best or sharpest shots, but still coo

I dispatched this 2’ coral snake this morning, he was in our backyard at our rural Fayette County home.  I try to let most snakes be, but when they’re venomous and too close to humans/pets then I go ahead and take care of them.

I typically relocate to a more suitable location with the use of a 5 gallon bucket and would encourage this fairly simple practice. Snake karma! But I understand your response. To each their own.

I don't have a problem with killing coral snakes. My father has generally been a let all snakes go person, but when he lived in S. Texas he said he killed almost 20 coral snakes. It's just too dangerous to have them around the house when you're doing yard work and have animals. Plus, they mostly eat lizards and small snakes that help control the insect population so they don't provide much value.

My dad also knows someone that got bit by one after putting potted plants in the car. That's certainly not good.

Mrs. Brat’s cousin lives in Garland, so this hits close to her home.

That response came one hour after the question was asked.  You proabably only missed saving said good snek by 59 minutes and 45 seconds before it was dispatched "in an abundance of caution."

That didn't look like a venomous snek - my guess is the chipmunk was protecting it's young that were somewhere nearby.

¡Snek! on a MFing plane

Snake on a plane delays a flight in Australia

MELBOURNE, Australia -- An Australian domestic flight was delayed for two hours after a stowaway snake was found in the plane’s cargo hold, officials said on Wednesday.

The snake was found on Tuesday as passengers were boarding Virgin Australia Flight VA337 at Melbourne Airport bound for Brisbane, according to snake catcher Mark Pelley. The snake turned out to be a harmless 60-centimeter (2-foot) green tree snake. But Pelly said he thought it could be venomous when he approached it in the darkened hold.

“It wasn’t until after I caught the snake that I realized that it wasn’t venomous. Until that point, it looked very dangerous to me,” Pelley said.

Most of the world’s most venomous snakes are native to Australia.

When Pelley entered the cargo hold, the snake was half hidden behind a panel and could have disappeared deeper into the plane. Pelley said he told an aircraft engineer and airline staff that they would have to evacuate the aircraft if the snake disappeared inside the plane.

“I said to them if I don’t get this in one shot, it’s going to sneak through the panels and you’re going to have to evacuate the plane because at that stage I did not know what kind of snake it was,” Pelley said.

“But thankfully, I got it on the first try and captured it,” Pelley added. “If I didn’t get it that first time, the engineers and I would be pulling apart a (Boeing) 737 looking for a snake still right now.”

Pelley said he had taken 30 minutes to drive to the airport and was then delayed by security before he could reach the airliner.

An airline official said the flight was delayed around two hours.

Because the snake is native to the Brisbane region, Pelley suspects it came aboard inside a passenger’s luggage and escaped during the two-hour flight from Brisbane to Melbourne. For quarantine reasons, the snake can’t be returned to the wild. The snake, which is a protected species, has been given to a Melbourne veterinarian to find a home with a licensed snake keeper.

He ded snek now, but damn that was not fun.

Whacked the fucker with a snek stick I picked up in Sudan.

Came across this fellow on my walk today. We stared at each other for a minute, and he turned around and went back the way he came.

The picture is blurry. I think it’s a cottonmouth but there’s a slight chance it’s a water snake.

I wish I'd gotten a picture when he was facing the other way.  That head looked shovel-like enough for me to keep my distance.  I didn't get a look at the pupils though.

That fat boy body - and that horny ridge on the side of his head over his eyes makes me go cotton mouth

What appears to be an actual narrow neck makes me think cottonmouth.

But nerodia can do one hell of a cottonmouth imitation when they flatten their heads.

I was thinking about that.  But as mentioned above, he had those the ridges over the eyes when I had a better look at him.

I didn't get a chance to flip him over to look at the scale patter past the butthole plate. ;)

Without a doubt a Northern Cottonmouth.

Little guy in Bull Creek on Saturday. Was pretty cool to watch him swim away. ID? I know there’s no scale in the pic, but it was small. Diameter of a quarter and 18” long.
