January 21Jan 21 Real light accumulation in San marcos. Snowing on my side of the street. Not across the street. Wife runs outside to see it. Calls the two dogs. Mine tears off to go out, running in circles and loving it. Her's is hidden on the couch under a blanket. He might be small but he is smart.
January 21Jan 21 Snowing in Central Austin off and on. And it’s not melting when it hits vehicles or the ground, which means shit is cold, which means everybody made the right call about tomorrow. AM roads are gonna be
January 21Jan 21 Kiddos are out of school, so we’ve been making snowballs here in Houston. This is fucking great, can’t wait to see what it looks like in the morning.
January 21Jan 21 Yep, we just went for a short walk. Wind is brrrr, but damn I love the silence of a snow fall.
January 21Jan 21 Never saw so much snow on radar that did not appear on the ground. Barely visible in southern Fayette county.
January 21Jan 21 Light snow in NW Travis County right now. It's accumulating and sticking on neighborhood roads. Not sure about major roads, won't know until dawn.
January 21Jan 21 -3 degrees this morning in Amarillo...and our HEB never opened that they promised us 4 years ago.
January 21Jan 21 Fell asleep early last night and woke up to a perhaps the most snow I’ve seen in Houston on the ground. And I’ve been here 30+ years.
January 21Jan 21 Easy drive in from 183/Lakeline to the Domain around 5:30 this morning. Streets are pretty empty & other than a few spots by the construction barriers on 183S there wasn't too much accumulated. Be careful out there.

January 21Jan 21 Snow coming down pretty good in 77019, think toobing down the hill at Eleanor Tinsley park may really be happening a little bit later this morning
January 21Jan 21 Hardin Co report from our back yard, just guessing about 5 or 6 inches on the ground.
January 21Jan 21 Ah shit, Channel 2 showing snow on the beach across the road from the Galveston Krogers
January 21Jan 21 Anyone make the commute to downtown via MoPac? Wondering when to head to the office.

January 21Jan 21 Yeah its not blizzarding but def snow “storm” right now. Maybe 3 inches so far in heights. Lived in houston my entire life. Definitely most snow ive seen here

But getting to MoPac is a bear. Loop 360 was worse than I've ever seen it. I'd say give it a couple hours for some other intrepid souls to help melt some of that ice on the lanes of traffic. I think it'll be fine before too long, but right now it's pretty bad.
January 21Jan 21 Final Crisis Weather Report: - Roads 8:30 21st ATX: Highways - great; Medium roads (main roads with lights)- not super; Residential streets - good until snow gets packed into slip/ice-- don't drive if you're not used to it until after lunch (treatments/some melting) - Sun will come out today... when? Depends on speed of system moving out. Best bets are for maybe 3-4 p.m. so not a lot of solar melting. Temps expected to > about 2 but could easily stay below freezing if no sun. Roads should be good though later. - Models did very well on this (they're getting better), almost exactly bullseye for Central/East/SE Texas. Called it very well with amounts, locations, including bullseye for Houston/SW LA. - Clearup-melting by later tomorrow afternoon it'll be gone. For today, travel not recommended until mid-late afternoon for most non-residential streets. - Temps tomorrow get into the 40's again, so that'll be it for this one. See you next crisis! Edited January 21Jan 21 by phdhorn got the date wrong. Math - who can understand it?
January 21Jan 21 And the squirrel on Cesar Chavez got it because he couldn't make up his mind. If he'd dashed across the (nearly deserted) road, he'd've been fine. But no--he had to stop in my lane and change directions four times, paralyzed by his indecision about whether to finish crossing. Look, bud--it's icy. I'm not hitting my brakes for you. And I'm not changing lanes. Particularly when I can't figure out what fucking direction you're going to decide to go. But it's ok--all is not lost. If you just hunker down in the middle lane as I drive overhead, you'll be fine. In fact, you'll get a nice little warm breeze from my exhau . . . Nope. Thunk. Dumbass.

January 21Jan 21 One of the few wildflowers left in the yard. An idea of the depth as compared to the 6" inch. Faucet protection working like a champ. Wife just snuck a peek outside, she says it is still coming down. I'll update later.

January 21Jan 21 Getting a solid few inches of snow accumulation here in Spring Branch. On the roads its a half inch of ice and slush, and then an inch or two of snow. It's an absolute casserole out there. Really fun morning though with my daughters first snow and my husky mutt going buckwild in the snow on our walk.

By far and away the most snow I've ever seen in Houston.

My commute was fine. My neighborhood streets were slick in some areas and the layer of snow/ice wasn't worn though yet. But 183/Mopac to my office downtown was fine. Most of the traffic was driving in the 45 mph range to play it safe, which was good to see.
