Potter County checking in at:

19 degrees, snow flurries. Feels like one degree.

I managed to get ahead of the game yesterday.  Drained all hoses, put my warm boxes on the faucets and covered plants in hopes of peace of mind that everything will be OK.  We still have Indian Paintbrush, Indian blankets, Lantana and other flowers that are still in bloom.  Not an overabundance but still makes the yard colorful. In fact, Bluebonnets and Sunflowers are trying to pop up.  I think our landscaping is confused on which season it is. Dreary and weary winter weather arrives today.  yuk.

2 hours later......

This is the NBM (National Blend of Models) which apparently the NWS FW puts a lot of stock in. FWIW.

I saw some Indians gathering an asston of firewood all week.  Gotta think they know something about to change.

Depends on what type of Indians. Could be a bad winter. Could be some uncle died.

Good thing I decided to double check the faucet out at the wellhouse that I never use. Turns out I did use it in July to rinse the a/c and then never covered it back up because who tf covers a water faucet in July?

typical day in hou ....

For those keeping track, we now have…
A Tornado Watch, A Freeze Warning, A Wind Advisory, A Gale Warning, A Rip Current Warning, and a Cold Weather Advisory.

Southeast Texas at its finest😬😵‍💫

Well at least a refinery has not blown up. Yet.

Must be fairly slow moving.  Temps around DFW seem to be fairly close to my last post.

Hasn't cooled down yet, but it's raining sideways in Houston. Temps should start dropping fairly quickly after this storm passes.

I absolutely bought chili stuff this weekend

Checked the well, pipes, etc.. ready for the polar vortex but it seems like it's only going to be below freezing for a few hours in the morning throughout the week. Looking forward to a cold but comfortable week.

Shouldn’t be anything crazy this week. The further north you go the better your chance of seeing snow. Should just be regular cold in the Houston area this week. The end of January may get a little colder though.

Went with a coconut chicken stew instead. Thought about chili, but nah, needed something tropical to fend off this blizzard. Oh wait, not gonna rain.

So what is the reality of next week? Thursday/Friday timeframe? Going to be cold as Ohio for the game.

Cotton Bowl travel could be a shit show Thurs and early Friday.

All the newb female reporters in DFW are putting together their snow bunny outfit for that drive up 287 Friday.

My plan all along had been to head up around noon Friday.

Hope the current forecast doesn’t push back a few hours.

It’s already probably going to push a lot of folks to join me on 35 at the same time

Why not?

unless this thing shifts back by 12 hours

If it’s below freezing around 10pm ish with rain? Assuming that’s when the game would end.

Del Rio is always hot

To significantly impact a fire ant population, temperatures need to be consistently below 10°F (around -12°C) for an extended period, as this is the range where soil freezing can reach the depth of their nests and kill them; however, even at these temperatures, some colonies may survive depending on their location and the severity of the cold snap.

And where do you see a forecast calling for below freezing temps and rain at 10pm Friday?

Was 27 degrees and windy when I took my pup for a walk.  He normally goes about three blocks before deciding to crap, but squeezed one out in a hurry, given that this morning is by far the coldest it's been since we adopted him.

Current forecast is precipitation ending overnight and dry Friday during day.  But could be a lot to melt and TBD what time temps dip back under freezing on Friday.  I think we know a lot more by tomorrow and certainly tomorrow night but current best case scenario seems like a good (but small) window for travel Friday afternoon and hoping temps don't dip back down below freezing until well after game ends.   Flights Thurs seem pretty fucked unless things change which I assume will impact a bunch of OSU fans.

It was 21 degrees at 3am when my pup, a 13 year old Shepherd/Lab/Chow mix, wanted to go outside.  It's his kind of weather, so he luxuriated for about 20 minutes before being made to come back inside....where he promptly took a crap.  I guess he showed me for harshing his arctic blast buzz.

He didn't want to shit in the cold.

This is the Texas Storm Chasers YouTube channel.  David has a lot of good insight here.
