The good news is that the property owner can now build a McMansion with that pesky protected tree out of the picture.

I'm still slightly bitter about how much $$$ I had to pay to have one removed at my old home, because it developed a crack and I was trying to do the right thing and not have it fall on my neighbors.

How much did you have to pay?  I had a 60 foot Arizona Ash removed down to a stump for $1000 which I thought wasn't too bad.

It's been a few year now but I think it was around 1,300 to 1,500. So your quote seems really reasonable!

Friends in Hyde Park just go their power back after two days.  Gonna have to restock the Grey Poupon.

Power just came back on. Just in time to throw all the groceries we bought yesterday.

Must be nice.  Still no power here and our HEB is closed indefinitely.

The last few frozen margs are on ice in the Yeti but I doubt they make until morning.

Only one thing to be done, then.

I know. Bragging about having friends. Show off

I have power, but my neighbors not far away are going into day 3 with no power and the linemen told them it's going to be Monday at the earliest before it's restored, and maybe longer.

Ah shit, didn’t even think of that… I’ll go offer my chainsaw services

Still no power, but I got a text saying Austin Energy was entering Phase 3 of their repairs tomorrow - so I have that going for me.

Finally got all the limbs cut/trimmed and stacked and the freezer cleaned out.

Agree, but unfortunately it’s just not that easy. My FIL is a retired ag economist who has spent his retirement years working tirelessly on hunger issues. He is primarily responsible, although he would never take credit, for the success of the food bank in his community. One of the things he works on is getting food to food banks that would otherwise wasted. We’ve had long conversations about this exact type of scenario and how frustrating it is to see food get wasted. The logistics of getting this food out of the grocery store, into temperature controlled transportation and into storage at a food bank all during what is an irregular operations situation is highly difficult. Not that it can’t be done, but there’s still inevitably going to be waste and it’s not as simple as calling up the food bank and saying “come and get it!”

Fair, but counterpoint, it’s HEB. They’re kinda notorious for disaster planning. If anybody could have this shit figured out, it should be them. I’d imagine they do, and they just got caught flat footed with this one. Sad to see, but I bet that’s a pretty rare occurrence for them.

I live in the 78757. I was out of town and the neighborhood was skull fucked into oblivion. I looked like a bomb went off. Trees broken everywhere, leaves everywhere and lots of spots that had water damage. This video is from my neighbor who is like 5 houses down.

Looks like Travis is leveling off about 2 feet higher than before this latest round of rains.

Told y'all i knew how mother fucking gravity works!

Animated GIF

Buchanan went up about a foot. Thought it might get more based on where the rain was falling. It is doing better than Travis at 57% full.

Canyon lake didn’t go up at all. Sitting at 45% full.

We are still in desperate need of rain in the right places. It’s June now, so maybe next year.

Need one or two pacific hurricanes to track NE out of Mexico

Austin Energy outage map shows about 560 people without power, and expects to restore all of those today. I'm sure its miserable if you are one of the few still without power, but 4 days to recover from an event of that magnitude is better than I would have guessed.

Just 272 households still without power.

Old man's casa is one of them.  Fucking hell, his freezers are gonna STINK.  We're going to let the stuff re-freeze, toss it all on trash day, then give them a good cleaning.  At least everything is packaged up pretty good, shouldn't have any significant leaks of crap.

but the bodies?

We’re old school. Buried those in a shallow grave.

Power came on last night, about 30 mins shy of being out for a full 100 hours.

Suspect they're re-frozen.  I'm sure the coupla days at room temp didn't hurt em at all.  You're welcome to come by and take whatever you want.

Wasn't his one of the few that kept power during the freeze?

Yep.  Bottom line, one of our two family homes, a mile apart from each other, has been among the last 1% (or even fewer) to get power back in 1) the big freeze, 2) the ice storm (our home was without power 4-5 days in each one of those), and now 3) the mini-hurricane at my old man's house.

Before these, the longest we'd ever been out of power was in Houston during Alicia in 1983, and my folks after Ike in 2008 -- in both cases, well into day 3, then the power came back on.  Never for 4-5 days.  Now?  We've been without power for 4-5 days three times in five years.
