Got a generator for our casa a few years back (used it in the ice storm).  Figured all that was going wrong at my old man's house was losing some food left in the freezer, which all things considered, was just a coupla hundred bucks worth.  Didn't think we should bug the neighbors with our (louder than the one you posted) generator just for that.

I got my boy out from La Junta. As far as I can tell the whole camp got to high ground well in advance of the bad stuff and watched the camp get obliterated. My son is 8 and they took the younger kids

Other idea would be some big-ass spare Yetis that can find use between weather events.

Got those, but honestly, with the freezer kinda full, it kept things frozen/cold for 2+ days (better than the yeti would do -- I have a couple of good coolers, we did use them in the snowpocalypse -- didn't even need refrigeration or ice, just filled them, topped them off with snow, and left them outside - saved the more expensive fridge and freezer items that way).

It just seems that storms and major power loss are becoming a way of life around here.  Lived in Austin nearly 40 years, and the three worst weather events for us have been in the last 5 years.

Presenting WeatherStar 4000.   Maybe this has been posted here before, but I couldn't find it.   He even has the music down.    You can run it in kiosk mode.

Now that's one of the cooler things I've come across. Thanks for sharing.

The guy whose name is both an Italian dish and a type of sauce that you spread on that dish?

So it's not happening?

While I do enjoy POW Ponder, I’ll side with the Climate Prediction Center.

Buchanan is going to get another bump!

Double rainbows over Tulsa last night. But for the love of god please stop raining!

The Stop Raining commentary can be put over there on the non-Texas-weather thread.   ------------->

Looks like a blob of rain is just sitting on the upper Guadalupe. That's good.

Parts of the San Saba River are flowing at 15k this morning. Buchanan may go up 2-3 by next week.

The San Saba is now over 17k.

More rain is supposed to come over the next week. This only goes to mid week so the totals may trend larger further south.

Thanks for posting these

It's been a while.

Unfortunately it's not going to be nearly enough to make much of a dent in LT.  We need streamflows up in the 10K-20K range to get rises that are more than a few inches.  The San Saba should help out LB over the next couple of days.

Still, a little bit is better than nada.

Has the rain had a meaningful impact on your cistern going into summer?

Thanks for asking yep May took us from just over 10,000 to over 20,000. That will get us well into November (at an overly generous 4,000 per month)  given that we are also out of town for 3 weeks.

I think even in drought we have proven to have a sufficient roof surface area compared to our usage to be fine.

I love hearing about your home. I find everything y’all did for energy efficiency and conservation so fascinating.

I have cistern envy.  Are you using it for solely for irrigation or other purposes?

All water except for sprinklers and pool. But garden / plant watering and all home uses are cistern. We were shocked to find out how much water pools use. Wow.

Is it just from the initial fill up or ongoing refills? Never owned a pool.

Ever owned a pond? Pond is good for you!

Many, many years ago, when I was in college, I ran the municipal swimming pool in our fair town for 3 summers.  Now, by "ran" I had zero to do with lifeguards, concessions, whatnot.  I was the ugly kid who was given the task of making sure the PH levels were fine, that the ratio of piss to water was satisfactory, switch over the chemical tanks when they ran low, visit with the health department when they came out periodically to test the water etc.

The pool held 1.2 million gallons.  It would easily lose on average around 20,000 gallons per day from evaporation, people splashing water out, cracks in the bottom of the pool, people getting out of the pool and having water drain off of them, etc.   The pool had two 4 inch faucets that were used to fill the pool; we would open up one of them partially to top off the pool after it closed for the day.

My last summer there, they hired a company that came in before hours, put on scuba equipment, and were to "seal" the cracks in the pool with some special caulking that was supposed to cut the water losses in half, but after they were done, we still were losing around 20K per day.

It will be interesting to see what happens when these two blobs of water meet.
