Does it float?

I'm sure there are some that could, but the idea is to bug out and get to higher ground before it needs to float

I got my boy out from La Junta. As far as I can tell the whole camp got to high ground well in advance of the bad stuff and watched the camp get obliterated. My son is 8 and they took the younger kids

I helped with cleanup along with some other posters here. Giant cypress trees just leveled and you could see the flood line 42 ft up. Seemed like 100 ft from the river bed.

Yeah, those root balls on the trees were feet and feet wide.  The water treated the trees like match sticks.

Yeah, I remember there were washing machines and shit in some of the trees way above us that didn't topple. I will always remember how impossible it seemed that just a few days before where we were standing there was a raging river way above our heads. Well, that and Beau Vine's beast of a dog's startlingly loud farts. Zeus?

I’m an hour away. My 8 year old is at La junta. We know at least a dozen girls at mystic right now. Once I get there I’ll start a thread. For people to post updates

So next stop is Canyon Lake, right? And it should eat up all that water, correct?

Thank you! ❤️‍🩹 that would be great, and if people need anything help wise also.

Be safe! Godspeed!

Yes but there’s a lot of distance between central Kendall county and canyon lake

Jesus.
What about the counselors and Bailey?
Any news on other family like Kimber and her family?

Waiting to find out more. What I’ve heard, is that she was attempting to get to some stranded counselors, and didn’t make it to them. A lot is being said. It’s also been stated that Deen found her.

Again, I’m skeptical of everything. But people very close to her/us have verified that she had passed.

red cross is setting up help to reunite people

There is absolutely no more worthless group in a situation like this than the Red Cross.  They literally made things worse in Wimberley.

If you're going to donate money to the relief efforts, PLEASE do not donate to the red cross.

Zeus! He had a few loud bodily functions.

TxDot finished redoing the Hwy 281 bridge over the Guadalupe within the last year. Tonight the water and debris are supposed to peak 10 feet over the road. I don't see how it survives.

Small problem compared to those missing.

Wut.

I gotta over it and then back over it after I drop my load in SA.

Red Cross is a fucking Ponzi scheme. Money goes in and straight to bloated salaries and admin.

No shit. I donate to HEB recovery funds. Sure i get beer and food in return, but the system works.

HEB should run disaster recovery logistics for the state.

Seriously, you're correct -- they were absolutely heroic after the Wimberley flood, and that was before there was even an HEB in town.

Yeah, it's not much consolation but it's 31 feet down. It has a lot of room.

With all the tragedy from this one the rivers better bust that lake’s ass.

You're going to hear helicopters non-stop in daylight for at least a week.

My niece who is on the staff at Honey Creek camp climbed up the hill behind the camp early this morning to get cell service.
She called her mom to report that all their 200+ campers were safe and dry in the dining hall building.

Do you not get it? I get that you’re trying to be informative. But this is a bit of an anomaly, weather wise.

I was in charge of 20 boy scouts mid June when a 80mph thunderstorm collapsed 3 tents. It was pretty bananas. But nothing like flood waters coming up. PK a release did mean kayak class was moved off the Brazos. Island camp was briefly... an island.

It feels like you post this every time a natural disaster like this occurs, and I see it elsewhere, and people still can't seem to learn the lesson.

They have an excellent marketing team which, in and of itself, should tell people something.

I was in Wimberley during the Memorial Day flood several years ago, and I can tell you this is easier said than done. That downpour came out of nowhere and the rate at which the river rose was incomprehensible. By the time the weather reports/warnings started coming out there was little first responders and officials could do - though I will say they were all over the place doing what they could.

The Texas Monthly article on this is so informative but total nightmare fuel: https://www.texasmonthly.com/news-politics/when-the-river-rises/. So many similarities to this event.

Just sickening to think about these families dealing with losses today.

Drinking now. Here’s a pic of homesick jr and myself escaping Harvey. We’re standing on a “mini-dam, on the river property where the two houses out of view are now no longer standing. If this picture was taken right now, we’d be an easy 18-22 feet under water. The entrance to Camp La Junta is literally about 500 yards behind us.

Just makes me sick to my stomach. My kids have gone to La Junta and Longhorn over the years and I just cannot imagine what these families are going through.

You are prepared for a broken bone or an ear infection during camp but your child being swept away by floods in middle of night is just beyond the pale.

These poor kids.

Out at LBJ, the flood gates are open and the water level has dropped a few inches in anticipation of the water coming down the Llano.

As somebody who works/worked in and around the DC not-for-profit community, I second this. They are one of the most inept organizations on earth. You are better off using actual cash to start a cooking fire.

I know it’s challenging but please wait until local verified rescue groups are on the scene to contribute money.
