What exactly is Texas going to exploit about Ohio state… Counter scheme won’t be a surprise. Texas has some of the best edge defenders in the country in any case, which is what you need to stop counter. Texas also has an elite pass rush and secondary. I like the matchup of Sorrell and Simmons v the OTs Jackson and Fryer. OSU has 2 hellacious WRs but their QB struggles under pressure and Texas is one of the best in the country at putting QBs under duress.
January 5Jan 5 10 minutes ago, BestNCountry said: I’m seeing a lot of Texas confidence is this thread but not a lot of reasoning. What exactly is Texas going to exploit about Ohio state… Well for one I don't think that Texas will leave receivers running 5-10 yards open for an entire first half like Oregon and Tennessee did. Will Ohio State get their plays? Sure, they are very good. But, are they going to average 4.5 plays a TD drive with 80% of their TDs coming as the result of an explosive play like they have over the last two games? I'd be shocked at that against this defense as Texas and PK have historically been a bend but don't break defense. So the first thing is their offense is going to have to earn it in the red zone. When teams (Michigan, Penn State, hell even Nebraska)have put them in that spot things have tightened up for the Buckeyes considerably.

January 5Jan 5 We are 4-0 all time vs Howard. This dude is going to be seeing ghosts the first time we take a lead on them. He is talking about how this game is extra motivation because he never beat us. Cant wait to make it 5-0.

If you can exploit the o line weakness (4 of 5 players are backups or out of true position) Ohio state is in for long night. I’m pretty confident in OSU shutting down Texas offense though. the reason for the success on osu defense last 4 weeks is schematic change. Knowles has moved to 3 safety scheme and there is way more creativity in getting to the qb. I haven’t seen the recent film but it sounds like ewers is not playing well / immobile.

He doesn’t have to win the game, Tate, Smith, Gee, Emeka, Henderson, Q will do that. just find the open receiver. Against Texas I expect there will be a lot of shots to the tight end and extremely talented running backs.
January 5Jan 5 Popular Post You don't need elite receivers to take advantage of suspect corners. But you're right, Texas has no business playing against Ohio State, but we're so thankful you guys can grace us with your presence. Maybe by beating us this year, it'll be like you guys finally beat Michigan too.

Texas defense should be able to slow the OSU offense. Key will be stopping the run and getting OSU in obvious passing downs. Freshmen Simmons is pure speed off the edge. I think Donovan (assume he is still at OT) will struggle with him like PSU game. Texas also has athletic DTs that can give your guards issues I have fears about the offense. Quinn is can be one of the best passers in CFB when he has clean pockets and knows where to go with the ball. When defenses make him move or think, shit can go sideways fast. That probably sounds familiar to you and your QB. Edited January 5Jan 5 by Codaxx

Lol That was the refrain in 2005 when Texas won there. i think most Texas fans think we can win but won’t be surprised if we lose. I wouldn’t expect it a toss up, I’d go 60/40 tOSU wins. Reasons? Elite WR, somehow the tOSU Oline protects just enough and Texas licks the pole and gets its tongue frozen stuck in the third quarter like they kid in the Christmas movie - or put another way - Texas steps on its own dick in the third quarter and can’t pull out the W in the 4th. Donavan has made a boatload of nfl money playing as well as he has out of position. you will slow osu down. Oregon failed to be ready for a football game Over the entire first half, Oregon defenders were asking each other if they were in max/zone/assignments pre snap I am hoping the difference is our front 7 against your run/pass pressure.
January 5Jan 5 The key to beating Ohio State... Spoiler He must keep the top on. The last couple of games, he's been caught downhill and it's put his CBs on islands. ASU didn't really have the WR talent to kill us, but Clemson hurt us and Ohio State will destroy us if the CBs don't have help. LBs are going to have to handle the run without a lot of safety help, which means it's up to the DL and Edge guys to get pressure on Howard. I think we try to blanket Smith and Egbuka, even if it costs us defensive resources, and make them beat us with someone else. The 7 guys who are left will have to beat their man.
January 5Jan 5 In honor of the addition of our friends from Columbus this week, I 'm going to reshare some of my older Surly Ohio State memes.

January 5Jan 5 This game will determine the champs. Winner will play (and beat) winner of ND/Pedo. We win in a close one with tOSU.

The walk (since there was no transportation I guess) back to the downtown hotel was an embarrassment. Im sure all teams have their share, but man what a disgrace. He loves to get creative with motions and formations vs top level opponents. It can disappear vs opponents he doesn’t deem worthy. I would expect a lot of motion vs OSU. I hope to see empty looks designed to get OSU to declare coverages and motions back into more standard looks. Sark is capable of stealing a quarter with his game plan. That is kind of an unknown for this game. How good is that opening script
