I'm guessing you have a formula to get to that number that has you ramping up as the year progresses. Word of advice... build in a buffer. Give yourself some wriggle room. There's going to be days where you get sick, are traveling, etc and you can't hit your target. Don't fall so far behind that you get defeated and lose traction. The year I turned 40, I set the goal to do 30,000 push-ups, 10,000 pull ups, 10,000 burpees and run 1,000 miles. I was in pretty good shape going into it, but I made sure that January and February were above my daily averages to give me some fluff. And, I always looked at my schedule a week or two ahead of time to find days / weeks that I knew I'd fall off pace. I'd hit it hard ahead of those times so I didn't lose traction. I was in the best shape of my life that December 31 thanks to the consistency. You can absolutely do the same.

January 3Jan 3 I’ve done one so far. That was on New Year’s Day, getting off the top of my wife after sex. The push-up took longer than the sex.

January 3Jan 3 Author Doubled to 10. 20235 left. Easing into it so I can knock out 50 at a time. Then I'll go push to get to 100 at a time. At tailgates next season I'll do them in front of everyone or you can join me.

January 3Jan 3 I fucked up one of my shoulders a little bit by deliberately ignoring mounting discomfort during a 10,000 burpee/year effort a couple of years ago. Listen to your body.

Listen to your body. I'm 35 not an old. I have a bad surgically repaired knee and don't plan on doing weird shit, being able to do 100 push ups in a row after working towards it for 6-8 months shouldn't be that crazy. Going from 10-25 will be fun. Going from 25-30-35-40-45-50 will likely take 3 months or more by itself. Then 50-60-70-80-90-100 will take another 3-4. Being able to drop down and do 100 pushups is a pretty fun party trick. I could do it from age 15-22 because I did it most days. Now I'm just married, fat and mentally exhausted. I need more good physical fitness routine in my day.

That said, 100 pushups at a time without getting VA benefits? I mean, sure, do it once to prove you can, but your non-18-year-old joints might prefer 4 sets of 25 or somesuch. [I never completed or started training in physical therapy.]

Just be sure and do some pull-ups, rows etc. to prevent the muscular imbalance that will develop if you do pushups and nothing else. Your shoulders will thank you. Edited January 3Jan 3 by destroya

I’m rooting for you(anyone improving their fitness) but balance is critical. Taking up 30 min of cardio a day would also significantly reduce the risk of joint damage by decreasing weight.

January 3Jan 3 Too early to declare this the Lamest Thread of 2025, or should we wait and see which of the 1,019 lame threads Gil starts?

You'll get way more out of it physically by being able to do 25-50 good ones for 2,3, 4 sets a day rather than doing 100 at a time where half of them are garbage just to say you did 100 at a time.

January 4Jan 4 I set a goal in 2010 to run 1000 miles. I made it like on Dec 27 or so, but I pushed through some nagging injuries along the way and honestly my knees never fully recovered. Moral of the story is listen to your body and don’t be a slave to the goal. At one time for me, 50-60 pushups a day wasn’t a huge deal. I would probably struggle with it now day after day.
