Hadn't been there in probably 15 years and never liked their beer.

Player Haters Ball GIFs | Tenor

going back to the days then they were doing fundraising parties at empty lots on the east side...their beer has always sucked.

From my vantage point, the downsizing of craft beer has almost exclusively eliminated breweries I wasn't interested in anyhow.

What the hell? It's January 8th. That's like pumpkin beers in July.

Their description:  Saint Arnold - Spring Bock

Spring Bock

An authentic, copper colored, German-style Bock, celebrating the coming of spring. This big, deeply flavored lager has been aged to create a smooth, malty taste with a hint of sweetness. A light addition of German hops balances the malt flavor.

6.9% ABV | 24 IBU

My take: Thumbs up

Spring bock is an always buy.

My favorite of their seasonal offerings.

Oktoberfests are being released in July every year now.

1st time I tried it and I have to agree it is quite good. Also a fan of their regular Amber Ale. Have not tried their Octoberfest yet.

I like to pick up singles when offered at HEB. Great way to try without buying a whole pack and as far as I can tell, they don't charge a premium for the single. That Doppelbock I posted above was very good. May have to circle back and get some more. Likewise with the Samuel Smith Oatmeal & Imperial Stouts. One seasonal I really like this time of year is Samuel Adams Winter Lager. I like it better than their Octoberfest. But it's not always available, and when it is, it's often in a 12-pack which is more than I care to get.

Ha, though I remember fondly the days of chasing whales and trading across country with the likes of you and @patrickdrinksbeer. I couldn't imagine having the desire or ambition to do any of that shit now.  Some of the seasonally released beers that I used to camp out and shop around to find now sit on the shelves for months.

I still enjoy a good brew, and look forward to a couple readily available seasonals, but these days I pretty much stick to a couple locals and call it good.

100% where I'm at.  6-7 years ago I was trading TG for Russian River with @AnotherUTFan and going to beer releases or going out of my way to swing into beer bars, liquor stores, etc to find some kind of whale or gem.

I pretty quickly and suddenly just lost interest in all of that shit.  Plus I found a lot of the people who were super into that stuff to be relatively off putting.  At least the ones that would descend on Decorah for big events.

I get to my local breweries a couple times a month (if I'm lucky), drink the local beer when I'm traveling, but that's the extent of the effort I'm willing to go to.

A Voodoo Brewing Co. outpost just opened near me in the nondescriptest of nondescript strip malls in the north ATL burbs.  I predict it will be done by summer.  I'll try to remember the "RIP" post.

Reminds me of Gordon Biersch locations making here to DFW. Man, that scratched an itch for a time. We had a Shaggy Happy Hour at one in 2009. Now, they're all gone.

They are working on one here just south of Frisco too.  I'll give it a try but expectations are low.

Gordon Biersch was good.  They beers were solid and food was really good.

How many God damn different IPA recipes can there possibly be?

Gimme a pilsner over that hoppy bullshit any day.

I love pilsners.

The hazy IPA recipes are pretty similar.  The difference is all the varieties of hops.  There are also quite a few different grain bills for other styles of IPAs.  West Coast IPAs don’t really taste like hazy New England ones.

And pilsners can be quite hoppy. They're just different hops.

Ten Wasp Brewing, Sumner, Iowa. A fucking gem in the middle of nowhere.

Goat Getter - Texas Bock by 11 Below Brewing

Short Version:

Keep an eye out for a Texas Special or Special Export beer from the K. Spoetzl Brewery for release in 2025.

TLDR:

Texas Special and Texas Export were alternating names for Kosmos Spoetzl's flagship beer for decades until John Hybner came along and created Shiner Premium in the 70's to compete with the likes of Bud, Schlitz, Lone Star, etc.
This 'new' beer is allegedly a more cost conscious offering to sit in the market spot somewhere between Shiner Light Blonde and Shiner Premium. This makes no fucking sense whatsoever as the brewery has been wanting to kill Premium for years and makes absolutely no effort to promote the product. Premium is actually one of the better beers this brewery makes, the malt profile has some corn along with the two row it so it's not a true SMASH beer like 1909 but the two row give it a nice spicy grain note and it's a balanced beer. It's actually pretty reminiscent of Budweiser red label if you haven't had one on a while. I hadn't either.

By the way, if there's interest in some informative / hit pieces on this thread about the Spoetzl brewery and now distillery, please let me know and I will pen them. I can tell you quite a bit about the place and I won't pull punches, positive or negative.

Best NA beer I've ever had. I'm particularly fond of the All Out stout and Atlética Mexican-style copper. Run Wild IPA is also very good.

I'm trying more.

I'm a big fan of Athletic.  I rarely drink on weeknights, so it tides me over till the weekend.  Or when I want a road beer and don't want to get in trouble for it.
