April 20Apr 20 I’d guess a launch monitor is most efficient but they’ll generally be 12-15 yards gap between each once you find one or two of them.FWIW I’m about to turn 50 and PW is 105y now just as it was when I was 35
April 21Apr 21 If you are near a range with Top Tracer technology, that’d be a decent optionAre there any in Austin? Before living aboard for 13 of last 14 years, I lived on the 9th hole at Lago Vista. The 8th is a par 5, I would just go over there at dusk and hit 100 or so balls into the green - that was when I had it dialed in. Another complication is they use meters in Singapore/Indonesia/Australia, so I’m always doing math for distances.

I can’t remember the last time I cared what the course told me the distance was. What’s surprising is how frequently gps and even yardage markings were just plain wrong
April 21Apr 21 Also, for the record, even I could hit a PW 150 yards into #9 at Lago! And putterRange finder helps at the driving range figuring out your clubs.

I can confirm Plum Creek It’s actually kinda fun. Works via an app on your phone. Will store data as well so you can look at it when you get home, etc
April 21Apr 21 You can also go to the PGA Superstore at the Arbor Walk or Golf Galaxy. They have good simulators there and indoor to boot. Just "demo" a club - they've never really cared and I think they're just happy to talk shop mostly. 1 hour ago, Lurch said: Just get a range finder. April 22Apr 22 Also, for the record, even I could hit a PW 150 yards into #9 at Lago! It’s definitely not good for range finding. My house was opposite of the house you drive it over.

I was okay with the $181 green fee, however, the range balls were of the quality of a muni, the greens were ROCK hard, zero, and I mean zero signage on which direction to go to the next tee box, no hole signs at all, and the most maddening thing was no pin sheets. Numerous times we had to drive all the way to the green to see what quadrant the pin was in. This place used to be top 5 in the state and very difficult. The Bermuda Augusta. Temple-Inland used to pump money into it but that stopped years ago. Was a great stay and play trip too.

It isnt a long course by any stretch from the back tees, but some tight tee shots and unforgiving if you miss approaches. At one time they were #2 in the state.
April 24Apr 24 Interesting review of the Driver from LA Golf. Supposedly it has an optimized budge and roll (gear effect) face for off center hits based on swing speeds. If you are familiar with Bryson's drivers and irons, then you know about budge and roll. TLDW: It works. Spins from off center strikes were optimized for spin and distance. Maybe Bryson's not totally full of shit.
April 28Apr 28 A family member gifted me a 2024 Callaway ORG14 golf bag that is new with tags but missing the removable ball pouch cover. I don’t know why it is missing. The local pro called Callaway to see about getting a replacement. No dice. Do any of you knowledgeable sports know a way to get it replaced?
April 29Apr 29 Why in the world would someone design a bag with that? Plus why wouldn't they let you buy a replacement
April 29Apr 29 3 hours ago, AUinHsv said: Why in the world would someone design a bag with that? Checking other forums it appears that it is some sort of state secret that Callaway and Titleist are guarding with their lives.
April 30Apr 30 Popular Post Pasatiempo trip report! Had to go to Santa Cruz for my daughter’s roller derby tourney. Had heard excellent things but the price was exorbitant. Lucky for me, right after the Western Intercollegiate they close the course for four days for maintenance. After that, they offer a significant discount for the next 13 days. I paid $220 to walk and rent a push cart, normally would be $425. The GM assured me it would be very playable and it was indeed! Was cart path only as the main difference, which I didn’t care about. Greens had a light top dressing but rolled plenty pure. View from 1 tee with the bay in the background. Only a 440y par 4! Hit a decent drive but overdrew and had to punch under trees. Got down in 3 after that for a solid bogey. 3 tee. No prob just a par 3 playing 200+ uphill and into a breeze, surrounded by bunkers with flag tucked on a shelf in the very back. Hit driver and was just left and short of the left bunker. Hit a solid pitch that didn’t quite make the top shelf, came back down to 35 feet and sadly 3 putted. 8 tee with 9 and clubhouse in background. Good: made a sick up and down from the short left bunker. Bad: it was for double. Did have an easy par on 9, the only one of the day ooooof. 15 tee. Apparently McKenzie viewed this and 12 at Augusta as analogues. Came up in fried egg in short leftmost bunker. Hit an excellent out to 9 feet but missed. View from facing and beside 16 green, one of the most amazing and severe I’ve ever played. Would love to just chip and putt around on this for days. The rare closing par 3. Thinned my tee shot but jusssssst covered the bunker and released to the middle. Literally no idea how you stop it near the flag tho, had 12 feet back from front edge and couldn’t have done much better. 103, 7 fairways, 2 GIR, 38 putts. Currently have it as my #3 all time course. It was a SOB of a hilly walk, my app said I covered 32 flights. Had cramping on front of my leg just above my ankle that night. I can’t really justify $400+ anywhere but I’d drive a few hours just to play it again at $225 for sure.
May 2May 2 Just got word yesterday that pinehurst no. 4 will be closed for 3 months. We were scheduled to play 2, 3, 4, & 8. Really hoping we’ll be able to move from number 4 to number 10. But the guy that organized the trip seems to have no care as to which course they replace 4 with in our itinerary, so I’m fully expecting it to be 1 or 5. The minute we heard that 4 would be closed we got on him to call and find out if we could move to 10. All he’s done is forward us the email from pinehurst saying that 4 is closed and they’ll move us to another course.
May 2May 2 If it isn’t 10, I’d be damn sure to be getting a discount bc you were def paying a premium for 4. I would be really confident they will put you on 10 if at all possible.
May 2May 2 I wouldn’t hate playing 3 twice, but then again I use that magnificent heaven like a daily fee, calling the day prior and getting squeezed on wherever they have a spot. Maybe one day I’ll stay at the resort so I can play 2 and the others.

They put us on 6 and a $200 gift card.

May 11May 11 As it stands the itinerary is: Thusday Mid pines no 8 Friday no 6 no 3 satuday no 2 cradle I’m already trying to build a group for a return trip in 2-3 years to hit 4, 10, 11, pine needles, and Tobacco Road

May 11May 11 Even if you’re not into YouTube golf, I highly recommend watching this Scheffler vs Grant Horvat video. It’s an 18 hole match at Scottie’s home course, Royal Oaks in Dallas. It’s really good
May 12May 12 The only YT golf I watch is the NZ gang, Taco, Tooms, Sam, Dimache, and Luke Kwon. Everyone else sucks too much or takes themselves way too seriously (Grant is in the latter). It's YT golf. You can hit as many shots as you need to but only one ends up on film.

May 12May 12 My point of posting that video was that it gives a good picture of Scottie in the wild, not an endorsement of Horvat.

May 16May 16 Sent my 50 year old PAL to Ping for refurbishment. I know a lot of people like the aged patina look, but damn...I love the shine on this. Ping customer service is top notch.
May 16May 16 One of the guys I play with uses this and is nails with it. From 1971, hockey stick tape for grip and the head must be pure lead it’s so heavy

May 17May 17 When I was a teen I wanted one bad, but it was like $45, so my poor ass had to get the bullseye for $30. Both great putters. It's amazing that now top end putters are like $750.
May 25May 25 Has there been a discussion of Takomo irons? I’m looking seriously at the 201s. I have almost 20 year old Nike Slingshots now.
May 25May 25 Heard of them. Great reviews. I can’t play KBS shafts so never looked much further. Sub70 is another DTC brand that is also good
May 25May 25 What’s the deal with KBS? I was reading that you just go down a stiffness. So if you are a S player, go M.
May 25May 25 New bag. I've either done ping or Titleist for 30 years but just wanted something different. Jones is having 30% off for memorial day so for 2 bills it was pretty easy to justify. Jones trouper 3.0 Don't love the external leg mechanism but it works well, even if the legs feel a little skinny. Still getting used to pocket layout. Love the two valuables pouches up top. Not sure what I think of the big cooler pocket up front. I've already yanked the 2nd strap. I like to think I'll walk some day but it's basically just to the range or the cart. And maybe 9 with my kid in the evening and it actually carries really well with a single strap. Material feels top notch and best zippers I've had on a bag for as long as I can remember. Really dig the minimal logos. Only had it for one round but so far I would recommend.
May 27May 27 Picked up the new tsylormsde driver the Q35i I think it is. It’s nice shit my best round in a long time maybe ever shooting a 86. Normally a 90-94 golfer but I don’t get out much. 1 day maybe 2 a week when I’m lucky

Though I'm guessing by the typos and run-ons in your post, you may not have been sober when you posted and meant to say per month, not per week.
