I'm terribly sorry for you and your friends and family loss. I thought it was important to point out and link to the data that showed it wasn't a failure of enough water, and not a "scandal" but a tragedy of historic scale. I know your feelings are extreme because of the ongoing disaster, but c'mon man. No need to be dropping slurs

January 8Jan 8 Popular Post Had to go into work today while my family holed up at our friend's house. Afterwards, Was able to get back into the neighborhood to make it to our house and looks like it's gonna be ok. Inside of house is covered in soot. Guess those winds just blasted it through the cracks in our old ass windows and doors. @Sbbruin so sorry. Heard St Mark's, ACC, and Waldorf are gone. We know 4 Altadena families who've lost everything. Drove into this cloud this morning before work to try and get back home to check the status but turned around bc smoke was so thick

I read an interesting article about the Maui fire and the lessons they learned from it about house fire prevention from the few residences that survived: https://www1.wsrb.com/blog/wildfire-in-maui-what-can-we-learn Connecting wooden fences, composite roofs, and shrubbery around the base of your house is a bad idea in fire prone areas. Although when you are facing 100mph winds, I think it really just comes down to luck. Edited January 8Jan 8 by Bateshorn

California AAA home insurance required my parents to tear out some out that was within a certain distance of their house before they'd reissue their policy.

At one point the flames were just cresting on the ridge to my south and the only traffic for miles was shit tons of forest service and firefighters. Those fires were at least a half mile from me and it still took me a few hours after emerging from the orange skies and smoke to unpucker my asshole. I cant imagine standing on a roof with a fucking garden hose as fire is consuming the property 15 feet from me. That's some crazy f'n shit right there. That's shooting at the Tiger Tank with a Pistol Crazy Brave right there. Firefighters came in like the P-51s.

That depends on how fast the Natl Guard gets deployed. It'll obviously be in the unburnt areas. As a young pup I myself got sent into Charlotte after Hugo. There had been some fuckery, but everybody got right after the Humvees with (unloaded) M-60s started poking around. Charleston area was different. They wanted to fight.

January 8Jan 8 in my line of work there is a fire suppressant system that when activated covers a ~5,000 square foot area in a foam to put out the flames, there should be something similar available for a home depending upon how much money you want to spend on it That’s an AR-AFFF foam that is used to suppress vapors and snuff an existing fire out. Not gonna do anything for radiant heat impinging on a structure

So if a fire ever came up from the greenbelt, that entire subdivision is right fucked. But even without a greenbelt wildfire, it also means that if you live in Lost Creek and your house catches fire, the fire department is just going to watch it burn and save their water to make sure it doesn't spread to neighboring houses. I’m curious how much water it is that you think it takes to put out a single structure fire. As for the bolded, that’s a pretty strong assumption. Is there an ISO study or a fire suppression official that has come out and stated that is what they will do or have to do?

Haven’t heard anything about Nobu. for july 4th, 2024, we went to a restaurant on the beach, ubered to my cousin's in the palisades, then walked with half of the party to the high school up the street to watch fireworks. 6 months later all 3 are gone. this is also one of those frustrating situations where everyone "wants to help" but the best thing for everybody to do (assuming you're not evacuating), is to stay home to let others get where they need to go. pretty helpless feeling. we're donating to a couple of animal shelters because they're about to get inundated by animals running out of the woods. apologies if that's political.
January 8Jan 8 When the fire is coming theres no time to loot or you're dead. After the fire comes, nothing left to loot. The “fire proof” safes, which my guns are stored, are most likely the only standing objects in that disaster. Sad to say but true.Millions+ $$$ homes, with a standing safe is a target for many. Not just guns, but jewelry and cash.LA County SD should be on major patrol for the areas already wiped out.Hook’em!!!
