Fuck that thing.  I left a little bit ago as they cut water as well as power so nothing left for me to do.  That link says our house is on fire.  Just called my next door neighbor who’s still there and he said no, the house is fine.  Whew.  I’m completely emotionally and physically exhausted.

Someone else posted they didn't have water in the hydrants.

Dude. Just stfu. As usual, you don't know wtf you're talking about.

This isn't a huge scandal, and it's not uncommon. It happens fairly often in much less extreme conditions than the ones they're facing. It happens in other places. It's happened at multiple fires I've worked in Austin over the years. Dry hydrants happen. Grow up, dumbass.

So you are saying it’s a MASSIVE scandal

Just joking

Holy shit I forgot about Nobu. I feel like that was a little north of the fire.  I talked to some homies in the know. They are saying Nobu survived.   Pain in the ass to get a reservation there

Not up on all the minor LA burbs. Had to look Sylmar up.  Triangulated around the Hollywood sign.

And a quick check of the wind:

That's really not good. Not good at all.

Wasn’t a Sylmar warehouse the site of a major coke bust featured in Narcos Mexico?

These fires are incredibly sad.

Is the Rose Bowl in danger? The Eaton fire looks kind of close.

Take the loss, pussy.

Do firefighters have a shot at getting this under control without significant help from a shift in weather?

Would the rose bowl being in the middle of a golf course save it, or does VY need to get on a plane?

Dang finally heard from my 3 teammates inrace triathlon with. All 3 lost their homes. Everything to the ground

The winds have slowed. The problem is no rain in site and it hasn’t rain since last March

Incredulity negging an actual firefighter just because he disagrees with some bullshit misinformation copy-pasta about fire hydrants is peak Surly Dunning-Kruger.

I loved the Reel Inn. Went there a handful of times on trips out there.

National guard got deployed in our neighborhood pretty quickly after the fires here in SD some 15 years ago. I imagine the same will happen here as soon as the immediate danger has passed. Of course they don’t stay around forever but I wouldn’t recommend shooting anyone while they are around. They may not know you’re the good guy.

Per CNN, Oregon is sending down 70 forestry firefighters.

Hope the wind dies down enough for an air attack.

@immamac can you just give @Incredulitya timeout from this thread? Jesus christ. Now he is arguing with actual firefighters in a fucking fire thread.

I have fantastic memories of Moonshadows.  we rented the house closest to Moonshadows on the other side of their parking lot the entire week of the 06 Rose Bowl.  We celebrated NYE at Moonshadows (it was only something like 100 per person, which was cheap as fuck).  partied there, did brunch there along with other places around town.  and then we watched the greatest college football game ever played... many fond memories of that place... hate to see how bad Malibu got hit

I don’t think so.  It’s a bit west.

New fire just broke out in the Hollywood Hills.  Blowing up quickly

Looks like wind his blowing their direction. Fucking hell I would be gone immediately. Shit move way too fast.

I guess Pepperdine is okay? I have a friend whose sister lives in Malibu whose house overlooks the Pacific. I assume all those houses are gone based on those pics of all the lost beachfront properties.

Those are some

tightly condensed and super pricey homes in the hills.

Jesus. A mile from Hollywood Blvd and no matter which way the wind blows that can make this thing jump since you've got lots of trees north, east, and west of it.

And Paradise. Also, Incredulity should be banned.

Any chance these are arson? How often do these happen close to the city like this?

Reel Inn gone after 36 years. Guess it's going to be one of many landmarks that is just ashes.

I mean sure it's possible but Malibu just went through this around Pepperdine last month. It happens. It's dry. The winds are blowing hard. You have something hit a power line and sparks happen. Then you get what we're seeing.

FYI, Watch Duty is one of the best apps to follow wildfires I have found. Updated by volunteers, but mostly firefighters from what I understand.
