I don't see an upside for them to sell him right now, baring a crazy large number. It just doesn't make any sense.

1. They are in the Champions League and look, they aren't going to win it, but they have a chance to get some wins and advance. That means more $$$$

2. They are in the race for the Eredivisie, again more money.

3. Pepi's value is only going up right now. Selling right now when he would command a lot more in the Summer would be foolish.

or maybe he wouldn't pass a physical:

Reports from the Netherlands state that Ricardo Pepi could be out for the foreseeable future with a knee injury sustained against Liverpool in yesterday’s Champions League match. CONCACAF Nations League Semis are in March. #USMNT

Damn. That really sucks. Never even saw a report prior to this that he was even hurt in the match.

I know the money will probably be too good to pass up, but I would really hate for him to go to the EPL. If he can be the #1 striker next year at PSV, there are not many better places to be for a young striker.

I don't understand why some of you are so afraid of the PL. Why wouldn't Pepi do well there? And for $35M plus? You have to take that money.

Like others have said, though, PSV is in no hurry to sell the kid.

It's a grinder compared to other leagues, especially if you're toward the bottom of the table like West Ham where he's not likely to get great service. All for not either way with his knee injury.

I get it - but sometimes that steel on steel is what makes players great.

I don't know if he would or wouldn't do well in the PL but I could see either outcome.

Tangentially - looking like we might need ol' Joshy in the Nation's League. He and BV are our top 2 9s with Pepi and Flo out, correct?

I just have an issue with how the English are kind of slanted against American players. It's like 1 mistake and they are relegated to the end of the bench.

A lot of players also go to the EPL and are completely misused. See Jozy, who did himself no favors, but also went to a system that was not at all the right fit.

My guess is that it was a meniscus tear, because from the start they said:

• It wasn’t an ACL tear.

• He would be out 1-3 months.

• He would likely have surgery.

Any _CL tear starts with a timeline much longer than 1-3 months and any sprain wouldn’t require surgery.

I am not a doctor, but I have two knees and follow sports.

Now I am thinking that it could have been an MCL tear.

I am still not a doctor, but to say “We are definitely looking at 3 months+.”, I no longer think…

UPDATE: I stopped my response to use the Google.

Exactly as pretty as this, but Mitten’s post had slightly more freedom of expression.

Latest team news ahead of #PSVWIL 🧵

Let's be clear on this - he's done for this season - out until this summer. That means he's out for the Nations League and likely the Gold Cup.

#80

CL and Serie A CP has played about 20 full 90s and has 17 goal contributions (10G, 7 assists).

That isn't including the Italian super cup where he had a goal in both games.

Why tf wouldn't they let him go somewhere on loan in January then? What is the point of letting him rot on the bench and further diminish his value?

Also, AC Milan with a terrible loss and are out of Champions Leauge. Hernandez with a comical dive to earn a 2nd yellow. They really need to move on from him and Leao.

Timothy Weah's first #UCL goal is an absolute THUNDERBOLT to restore Juve's aggregate lead 🇺🇸
