  • I came across a hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant called Susanas in Southtown today. It had 5 stars with 40+ reviews so I gave it a shot. I had the enchiladas verdes and they were legit. The family

This shit is the truth. I go there any time I'm in SA.

REGGIE’S SPECIAL (2) Eggs (any style), papas con chili, barbacoa, (2) small quesadillas; served with refried beans $7.99

Yesterday hit PigPen at the rec of @Clintonaldo. Pretty good spot with a bomb ass hangover brunch buffet, then took the gf to the tea gardens down the street and walked around for a bit. Pretty good spot. She is back in Dallas and I think I am staying till Thursday now so time to mingle with the local cholas.

Really?  Guess I will have to give it a try one day.   Their location in Live Oak is maybe one of the worst Mexican places I have ever been.

I’ve only been to the Roosevelt location, many times. Very good Tex mex

Rosario's and OG Blanco Cafe for Tex Mex

Schilo's (assuming it's still there, kids will love the homemade root beer)

Schilo’s ftw, especially for breakfast.

Had a hell of a day today. Started drinking around 4 at the hotel bar. Still here and just a guy who let me know how much he loves this town that I need to go get the ribs at twin peaks.... Is this code for some weird San Antonio sex thing?

Nonna Osteria is fantastic and the rooftop bar is pretty sweet.

Tre Trattoria also fantastic and killer spot on the museum reach / Pearle side of the world.

B-Daddy's BBQ is legit.

Julian's makes some great Pizza.

Don't worry about it and take a sniff of this soaked rag for a bit.

In San Antonio just for one day. Original Blanco Cafe or Rosarios?

porque no los dos?

one for breakfast, one for lunch/dinner.  I recently had the huevos rancheros at blanco, and it was very good.  I was full for a while.

Cheese enchiladas- original blanco for sure.

La Fonda

Went to Rosarios and it was incredible. Old fashioned nachos, enchiladas and ceviche. So good.  Ended up getting drunk at the Pearl’s Dios de los Muertes and spending the night.  May hit Blanco for breakfast before driving back.

San Antonio nights!

Jacala off of West Ave for good Tex Mex.

Tip Top Cafe for CFS

My Dad grew up in SA (went to the old and new Edison HS).  So, when we moved there we used to go to that area a lot.

Deweese's Tip Top sucks now. The food has gone to shit. I'm fairly certain they have new management and while the recipes seem similar, the food tastes like they tried to save a few bucks and go with cheaper/worse ingredients. The last couple of times I've been there, it has been barely edible. There used to be a 20 minute wait to get a table, now they are only half full at lunch time and have plenty of parking. The old blue hair waitresses are all gone, too. It's not even close to the classic place it used to be.

That’s a great area. Original Donut Shop ftw.

Only in San Antonio does it seem completely normal that the best thing at a donut shop is the breakfast tacos. But yeah, that place is great.

I've lived in San Antonio for 2.5 years now. We only eat out on special occasions. Here are the best meals I've had:

Southerleigh - upscale southern and brew

Botika - asian fusion

Restaurant Gwendolyn (special occasions)

Nonna Osteria - great italian

Smashin Crab - weirdly amazing seafood for SA

Silo Prime

We spend most of our time traipsing about the trails training for ultramarathons.

Friedrich Park (5.5 mile loop)

Eisenhower Park (4.5 mile loop that can be made into a 5.5)

Leon Creek Greenway

Government Canyon State Natural Area

Hill Country State Natural Area only an hour away

Canyon Lake

If you see a creepy middle-aged guy riding his bike and ogling the UTSA coeds in their jogging outfits, stop and say hi.  I'm actually pretty nice.

How will you stand out from the others?

That really sucks to hear about Tip Top.  I've got lots of memories as a kid chowing down there...

Does that trail system connect to OP schnabel? That’s my hood. Just moved back in the spring and there’s a smashin crab super close by. Still need to try.

Yes...all the way down to Ingram and all they way to 1604 and 10.

Went to Smashin Crab last year, good shrimp po' boy.

I'm gonna have one in about 30 min, but our Cajun food up here is not what it is down there.

The key is to have the donut in line as you wait to your breakfast tacos.

Went to the Little Red Barn tonight. Not the best steak I have ever had. But worth a visit.

There’s a proven inverse relationship between entrance standards and talent level.

Yes it's great and artichokes are good. Will be hitting up original Blanco cafe tomorrow for the best enchiladas in the city. Gotta have them with fresh onions though

surly hot spot. this is why we need capes

I live at joeys. The st Mary's  strip has gotten a bit too young for me but I love joeys bar.

It’d have to be with kids. :sad face:

I guess there's a bunch of nw side surlians amongst me.

Anyways, try Wapo Taco at 1604 and shanfield.

Also the Texan burger from The Cove might be my favorite burger right now.

Aguascalientes next to Hills & Dales has legit breakfast tacos and enchiladas.

Perry’s La Cantera slammed and went hard in the paint Tues night. I wore a fake mustache so I wouldn’t be recognized.
