I loved Fujiya, especially the original location on Fred but also when they moved to Wurzbach. Other than Nikkis, that was the only place to get sushi in SA back in the day.

Fujiya and Tokyo Steakhouse were my go to spots back in the day. One night around 1999, I was standing outside of Tokyo Steakhouse waiting for my wife when this Honda Accord pulled up in front of the door.

It was dark but something about the silhouette of the person in the car looked odd. The door opens and Tim Duncan emerges out of the car. My man managed to squeeze into a fucking Honda Accord. He had to bend down to walk inside the front door of the restaurant, I have no idea how he drove that car.

Has anyone been to Toro Kitchen? I filled my belly up with seafood paella and octopus ceviche tonight at the Stone Oak location. I've been to Carmen's downtown a few times but other than that I haven't been able to find a decent tapas bar.

Yes, I wrote about it early in this thread. Toro is a great place.

Seconded. I've only been to the downtown location next to the Alamodome but I'm a big fan. Good food, good vibe. They also have a cool downstairs bar.

We did Gartenfest at Beethoven Maennorchor again this year.  Hadn't been in a few years, but I think it's my favorite fiesta event.  Just laid back, and lots of seating available in the beer garden.  Good music and food. Although beer is damn expensive. I think for Fiesta, its that event and maybe King William from here on out.

Yeah, KW is our jam too with kids in tow. We park at the arsenal and walk down the river to a friends house a block away from the Johnson street bridge. We can ice down beer and cocktails, use clean restrooms, and get general respite from the heat at their house and be back across the bridge and in it in under 5.

I had lunch at Gennaro's Trattoria in Canyon Lake. If you happen to be in the area and are in the mood for Italian you should give it a try.

The lobster ravioli was good. I enjoyed everything that I tried, caprese salad, bruschetta, and lamb meatballs.

We’ve eaten there a coupla times, it’s solid. The eggplant parm is outstanding.

What's a good taco place in east SA? I'm driving to Pearsall from Austin so catching 130 to I10 and probably 410 East today.

Found Taquitos West to be legit. Al Pastor was good and the tripas we're cooked to perfection. Was eating too fast to take pictures, but thought about it afterwards. As you can see they have two locations

"VISIT ANY OF OUR TWO LOCATIONS!" could be shortened to say "Visit Either of Our Locations!" It would be shorter. And grammatically correct.

But then I'm paying them for Taquitos, not for grammar.

I almost made this exact same post.
But then I realized I could sit back and wait for YOU to be the asshole.
Mission accomplished.

Shoot, I was just thinking there was too much English and not enough español on that sign...

Yeah shit the good place near us has "potatoe" in their translation attempt on the menu and I'm sure as shit not going to point out their Quayle.

It's the "potatoe" that tells you it's legit.  Kinda like "shrimps" tells you it's a real chinese joint.

I'll do the same, been in SA for 5 months, before that in El Paso for the better part of two years, I've grown particular to what I expect in Mexican food. This place hit the spot. Off to Uvalde for a year, I'll probably make a trip or two back.

You're really gonna love it after you order your tacos and they ask, "You want us to put you salsa?"

That joint is really good.  No fanfare.  Just good food. Glad you liked it.

That place is insanely good. I've made the trip out there on Friday's to pull my own version of Jake Blues, where I'll eat a chicken with a diet Coke. Best end of the week post-workout meal ever.

Hey, question about driving to Fiesta Texas from Austin.   Last time I came down (spring break, mid march) there was so much construction at 1604 and I10, it took something like 30 mins to go a mile or so.

So, I'm coming down with my kids again tomorrow morning and  I'm wondering, is that construction still there?  If so, I'm thinking about taking 281 down and then cutting over to Boerne and coming down I10 from the north side instead.

Does that make any sense?  Is it a bad idea?  Is there a better way?

Check google maps for traffic. You can tell prior which portion of 1604/10 intersection is shut off for construction. It’s helped a ton the past month.

Man…tortillas like that are life.

That must be one badass nap after eating that!

My girlfriend takes that route from Austin to UTSA (next to Fiesta Texas) constantly. There is no good shortcut. The back way down 281 sucks balls.

it is still ongoing. no matter what happens its a shitshow on the weekends and sometimes is closed entirely (look up to make sure this isn't the case)

if you are going to take 281 anyway, just avoid the 1604/I-10 area entirely if that's any kind of an option

I appreciate it. Most of the syrups I’ve found have been crappy so I’ll give that a shot.
I had to start making my own because the prickly pear marg at Southerleigh was going to make me go broke.

To elaborate on this a bit, I've had to deal with it the last 2 weekends and it sucks for sure.  Use waze, not the iphone map app. That saved us 15 minutes each time.  If you do decide to go 1604, consider exiting Vance Jackson and cutting through the Rim to Fiesta Texas that way.  For the record, the last 2 weekends, the area shutdown was southbound, not northbound, so you might be fine getting there via 1604/I-10. When you exit, you could just go straight at the light, go through the Rim, and then take Vance Jackson to 1604.  It's possible that Vance Jackson is a total cluster as well with people trying to avoid the traffic at 1604/I-10...not sure about that, but if you take this route, please report back.

I live in the area. It’s a fuck every weekend and will be every weekend for the next 2 years. Different directions of 1604 & i10 are closed depending on the day.

Vance Jackson becomes a shitshow on the weekends per my brother. but yeah, use waze. don't question when it shoots you off.

everywhere around that intersection is going to be bad.

Makes me grateful I don’t live in Steeple Brook anymore. But it sure was nice before they built the Rim.

Went to Pollas Asados los norteños on Rigsby today for the first time. Absolutely delicious. Got the half chicken and it was more than enough. Not sure if I just went on a good day but the service was excellent, seated and eating within 10 mins probably. Waitress staff was a bunch of very unnotable chicks and then maybe the hottest woman I think I’ve ever seen in person. Had some kind of vine/leaf tattoo on her forearm. She was running out the takeout orders and smiled at me as I was walking in from the parking lot. She wanted me so fucking bad.
