Sweet. Based on nothing but pics from online, I’ve been trying to decide between that hotel and the Omni.

Not technically on the Riverwalk but I would pick the St Anthony hotel. I also like the Thompson. Hotel Emma in the Pearl is technically on the Riverwalk just not in the real touristy area.

Used to love The Gunter, but I'm not sure if they're completely done with their remodeling yet.

Current favorite...The Westin

Hotel Emma gives you access to much better food as well.

great hotel and area

Will have to fly in for a funeral on the northside.  One night, maybe two.  Got Hilton points to burn. Been a while since I've done a Hilton stay in town.

Is the Doubletree near the airport still good?  Embassy Suites?  Also considering the Homewood Suite in Stone Oak.

From some of my reps who have come to town. Embassy is nice, the Doubletree is worn down and depending on where on the NS the new Embassy at 1604 and 10 is very nice.

We stayed at the Westin recently and I thought it could use a refresh

Seconding this, plus close to La Cantera and The Rim if you need anything, Papadeaux basically in the same parking lot.

It's basically a brand new ES.

Thompson on Riverwalk is great too. Moon’s Daughter rooftop bar on top of the hotel is a great date spot.

Riverwalk?

I stay in so many Bonvoy properties they all run together just passed 42 actual nights for the year, but that's my go when on business in SA. Nice property but I don't remember the room.

My son is in Captain’s school at Ft. Sam for 6 months and tonight my wife is throwing a party on the patio at La Fonda for some friends. Last thing she said was “you're paying for it.”

Yeah. Good location but the room was meh. Lots of elevator noise too.

Westin exterior is nice but rooms are meh. It was a weekend sugar baby go-to for a little while.

Some place called Mixtli got a Michelin star. I’d never head about it in my life until I saw the list.

Between the Michelin star and your lack of knowledge it must be great.

I joke

They don’t sell puffy tacos

in the last six weeks I finally found the best burger near me, medical area SA.  Teddy Bs.  Literally  googled best burger near me, found it, a 4.6 I think and it was awesome.  Only one problem.  Came home and googled again for whatever reason and found article they were closing end of October.  I ate there one more time before they closed.  funny though, went next door to gas station and found the largest can of sprite ever for me, a 16 oz.  Plenty.

I have already found the best Tex-mex near me with Datapoint Tacqueira.  Still on the prowl for best burger.  Not high standards, just a really good fresh burger, w/cheese, fries don't matter anymore.  prefer good price, but not a killer.  It is good to know that the rating was correct.  Don't eat out much, probably once every two weeks.

They don't serve sloppy joes and sysco french fries, so they probably aren't going to match up with your palate.

Ah yes, a “this is expensive so that means it’s good” person. Glad you’ve revealed yourself.

Mr. Juicy has pretty good burgers. There's one on NW Military and one on Hildebrand.

You didn't even know one of the pretty universally recognized best restaurants in San Antonio existed. It has nothing to do with cost.

I bet 99% of San Antonians don’t know it exists either. Reading about it, it looks like it’s only 3 years old and costs $150(!) for a “ticket” to eat there. I don’t know who the fuck would eat somewhere like that here. I’ve eaten at Pujol in Mexico City, so I know fine dining. I imagine there’s similar places in NYC and LA. SA is like none of those places.

Your reasoning has fuck all to do with you being a dipshit and not knowing about it.

Genuinely, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Mixtli has been open for more than a decade. They have gotten a ton of nominations and awards nationally since they opened. Locally, Sutter literally named them his #1 in SA in 2024. Sorry the concept of a tasting menu is something you can't comprehend, for what it's worth Pujols has the same concept.

Also, sorry the idea of dropping big dollars on a premium experience blows your mind. Welcome to the world of fine dining.

It's clear that high end and fine dining isn't your wheelhouse, and that's absolutely OK. But shitting on a place you haven't ever heard of, that's been open for more than a decade and is extremely highly thought of says a lot more about you than you think it does.

Pujol had a daily menu, and I believe we had 7 courses. It wasnt just a tasting menu, it was probably the best eating experience I’ve ever had. I just can’t imagine shelling out that kind of money for San Antonio food in Southtown.

And I read that Mixtli opened in 2021, not sure where you’re getting a decade from.

Nope, both tried fine dining, but it didn't take.

Good to see the SA thread is still just people telling Helobious that his food opinions are -as Randall Tex Cobb would say- "toro caca."

What’s the consensus on steak these days? Is it Bohanons? Is there a slightly less swanky option that still smacks?

You aren't paying for San Antonio food you dunce.

It's a rotating menu based on the food of Mexican states during specific time periods. This isn't a fucking food truck next to a bar.

You also don't understand what a tasting menu is, clearly.

I may have to actually to put you on mute. This isn't complex.

Ruth’s Chris’ is always good, so is Longhorn steakhouse and Texas Roadhouse. Perrys at la cantera is about equally as swanky as Bohanons and very good too. But yeah they are all 2nd place to bohanons imo.

I mentioned Bohanons in my post and somehow Texas Roadhouse made the reply.
It’s fine, but I was clearly asking what the best steak options were.

Last time I had Perry’s for dinner it was good but I also just got the chop.

Shit. I’m such an idiot for not remembering one post on a page I posted on a week before covid shutdown the world. I get it, I’m sure the food is good. It’s not something I’d ever pay for but I’m sure others would. And maybe a restaurant here getting Michelin recognized will be good for the whole food scene in town

Thanks for the tip.  Fredericksburger is up next.

I still can't understand the greatness that is Datapoint Taquiera.  For $9.99 on the special, just now, a sizzling plate of chicken fajitas went down.   I mean burn your mouth hot! nice side of salad, with some fresh avacado, their cold salsa is some of the best I ever eaten.  I always ask for a 2nd little bowl of that stuff.  Compared to competitors their chips are fresh.  If only I could remember to order double beans instead of rice.  Rice does nothing for me, but I eat it anyway.  Tea included with the price!

Today they even had some other specials listed for $8.99.  I could have ordered an $8.99 enchiladas special to take home for the wife, if I had thought of it.
