July 3Jul 3 The new Duck and Dumplings place at Jones Maltsberger and Thousand Oaks is really good. We went to a new place up in Spring Branch for brunch recently. Desert Spoon is the name of it. Smaller menu but everything tasted fantastic. I had the Mexican Shakshuka and it was full of flavor. It is attached to the garden place there on 281, so it is a nice setting.

July 12Jul 12 There was an awesome Mr. Gatti's at Jones Maltsberger and Thousand Oaks. Went to countless birthday parties there. Also another arcade called Larzland the next intersection over (Thousand Oaks and Henderson Pass). There's still a good liquor store there called Alamo City Liquors which probably has the best selection in SA after Spec's.

Spent many a time in CD exchange. What was the name of the decent Mexican joint behind the chevron? The place I miss was Marty's veranda on 281 between Thousand Oaks and brookhollow. 55 minutes ago, deac_tracy said: There was an awesome Mr. Gatti's at Jones Maltsberger and Thousand Oaks. That Gatti's was in the original HEB location before they built the bigger HEB across the street.
July 12Jul 12 You guys are waxing nostalgic about an area that has probably hardly changed at all since the 80s. There’s even still a CD exchange at bitters and 281.

July 13Jul 13 To clarify, I have been in the area since 1980 when 1604 and 281 was a stop sign. In the early 1990, the southeastern corner of that intersection was pasture all the way to Redland road. There was nothing outside of 1604 except trees until you hit stone oak or Encinitas park. To say it has not changed is like saying Austin is the same as it was when I was in school in the late 90's. Edited July 13Jul 13 by CoachTex Can't spell for shit.

I was very specifically talking about the Thousand Oaks/Henderson Pass/Jones Maltsberger area. That pocket is like a time capsule. Obviously everything north of 1604 has changed dramatically. Also pretty ironic to call out my knowledge of the area while you call Encino park “Encinitas park”
July 13Jul 13 Encinio Park auto corrected and I didn't proof read for shit. Jones Maltsberger on the east side of the intersection was also pasture land. Only thing at that intersection was the HEB "old one on the west side on Thousand oaks" and pizza Italia and Jack's. Hell Jones Maltsberger dead ended down by the Churh heading toward 1604. That whole area was zone to MacArthur HS. But you know what, you are right. Time capsule since forever and you got me on the autocorrect. 14 minutes ago, Helobious said: I was very specifically talking about the Thousand Oaks/Henderson Pass/Jones Maltsberger area. July 14Jul 14 Spent the weekend down on the riverwalk for a friend’s bday. I thought Mezquite was really good. Tokyo Cowboy was okay but the Tiki bar downstairs was a lot of fun. Pinkerton’s was good for lunch and only a 20 minute wait. Edited July 14Jul 14 by 4th&Five

July 14Jul 14 I was at La Cantera a few weekends ago for a wedding, and I hadn't been since about 2007 or so. I don't remember it being that bad. The rooms were fine and the space and location are still very nice. But holy shit the food all over that place was so low quality, and the service staff seemed clueless at the notion of above-average hospitality. When did that place go down the shitter?

July 17Jul 17 Need an opinion. Leaving Southtown last night, we passed some retards riding scooters, double capacity, towards 37. They were blocking traffic. I honked , wife says, I was in the wrong and an asshole because they can’t afford a car. I said your retarded and riding to the interstate on a scooter is a libality for us all. I think I know the consensus but what do you degenerates think?

Maybe the storefronts haven't changed, but the homes haven't been kept up and the overall quality of the neighborhoods has slipped quite a bit. I wouldn't send my kids to MacArthur if I had a choice now. I remember as a kid thinking it was nice middle class area. Mac is a weird school. The only 5A NEISD school (the rest are 6A). It’s not particularly hood or low performing test score wise or anything like that. They just somehow lost a massive number of students in recent years, more than neighboring schools. They used to be solid in football too but they have like 9 total wins over the last 8 seasons or so.
July 20Jul 20 Urban sprawl. What happened to Roosevelt is now happening to Mac. No young families are moving into the area. Not to mention Neisd and NISD are open enrollment. Families can send there kids where they want to go.

July 21Jul 21 We’re at La Cantera this week and it’s sad to see how neglected the property has become. Staff is trying hard, but they’re just aren’t enough people to do the basics. The PE firm who bought the place from USAA is clearly sucking all the cash out of it. The pool chairs and tables are in terrible shape, and there are signs of wear and tear everywhere. We’ve enjoyed this place for the past five years but it’s done now. Too bad.

Of just low CC bikes like a grom or something? Because a grom can do the min. As a motorcycles rider I don't even ride on most freeways during the day and no way in hell at night. Having said that if they can maintain min speed it's kind of their right but Id also agree that if they were holding up the flow of traffic get off the freeway. Pretty stupid to think they are on bikes because they cant afford a car some people just like ridign a bike and getting that 55mpg. I have two motorcycles but I can also afford two cars.

Amazing how many people don't realize that there are in fact Mexicans in a town that is 160 miles from Mexican and is named San Antonio. They're also usually pretty shocked at the honor system when it's time to pay. 32 minutes ago, LebongJames said: Little warm today but with that crew, a stop at Otto’s, Elsewhere or Hops and Hounds for a beer on the river would be a good idea. Holy shit at thinking mi Tierra or the mercado resemble anything in Mexico. Houston on the other hand has far more people actually from Mexico, and you’ll find way more Spanish speakers over there as well.
