The boy has two friends from university in the UK visiting.  Today is their day to road trip down to SA to check things out.  He's starting them out with lunch at his favorite place, Taquitos West Avenue:

I haven't gotten the full download, not sure where they actually ended up eating.  I got two main pieces of feedback: they actually thought it was a really pretty city.  I think they enjoyed the preservation of historical architecture, and they got a kick out of the mercado, and how genuinely "mexican" a fair amount of the city and its culture is.  And also...they were fucking wilting from the heat.  It was a hot-ass day, and their limey asses just ain't built for it.  We warned them about that when they said they wanted to visit in August, but they said "oh no, we love warm weather!"

I was just thinking how mild the summer has been here too. We’ve only hit 100 a dozen or so days.

I’m sure this was covered (not reading whole thread), but wanted to say that closing Sol y Luna was one of the greatest baking tragedies of our time.

Sol Luna gave me one of the greatest dating stories of my life.  It involved a 5'9 college volleyball player on her 6th dwi, who didn't have custody of her kids, a case of beer, me being pushed off a chair, a family from Bulgaria and me banging her alcholic ass out of pity

How did she have time to play volleyball in between driving drunk and squeezing out kids?

Went to Full Goods for a late brunch and then have had some drinks at Sternewirth. Sternewirth is such a great day drinking spot

I have to drive down there on Wednesday. Is Mia Marco’s worth a stop for dinner?

The place off 35 by the horsetracks? I pass it often and I’ve never seen one customer there. Surprised it hasn’t closed.

Not sure that’s a spot for pizza. San Antonio has some pretty good pizza spots

Dough is the answer for pizza.

Good to know. I’ve been to Dough a bunch. Was just looking for something convenient and not too far off 35.

Mia Marco’s is very good. I believe they have limited seating though. There’s a few tables outside to eat. It’s a to go place essentially.

Actually looks like they do have tables. I’ve only done to go. It started as a food truck.

This may be the worst take you have posted on this hell site we all love.

Seriously. Peter Pipers is not "really fucking good pizza" - passable maybe, but not really fucking good unless you are an actual child.

Go to any in the valley and see if you still believe that. If you want better pizza down there you need to go to an actual pizza spot.
I imagine among fast food pizza up here it’s also at the top. I’m not saying it’s Dough or Il Forno or Fralos. But is it better than Pizza Hut, Dominos, Cicis, and Little Caesars? Yes.

I know a guy from McAllen, and he too likes Peter Piper.

I don't get it, but to each his own.

Probably because there isn’t many options down there best of the worst.

Looking for a legit Asian food joint on Northwest side of SA. Not fancy just quality food. Sizzling Wok use to be our go to spot off huebner, but it has closed and is becoming a sushi place.  Before that pan Asia was our spot across from OP Schnable but it also closed and is now a Fredrick's burger. What is your go to not fancy but solid Asian spot?

It’s not fast food pizza like any of the places you listed. It’s also objectively not as good as those places. It doesn’t deliver. Is it better than Chuckie Cheese? Maybe, no idea, but that’s the comparable place. Which means it’s absolutely ass.

I remember when our oldest friend in our neighborhood turned 16 his parents bought him a Jeep Cherokee and the first Saturday after his birthday he drove the rest of us to The Original Donut Shop. It was a cold and rainy morning, and those fresh donuts and tacos just hit the spot. The Original Donut shop has always been a core memory.

The Vera Margherita and prosecco is my guilty indulgence. I'm sure it's not as good as an RGV Peter Pipers Pizza with a side of Pepsi but it gets the job done.

Sichuan House across from Ingram Park Mall or Golden Wok off Wurzbach.

Back in SA for a visit. My go to breakfast taco joint is Mary Lou's on McCullough in Olmos Park. Solid as always.
