Pretty sure my wife has appendicitis so going to take her to the ER. We’re close to the seton on 38th but curious about dell at UT. Anyone have any experience or thoughts? Are all ER’s the same?

You better check what's in network if you have insurance

Had to take my wife to Seton on 38th around Christmas and it was a shit show. Do not recommend. Dell is the regional trauma show so I wouldn’t go there for appendicitis as you might get triaged to a lower priority if there’s a bunch of trauma. Might try North Austin Medical Center.

In my experience, maybe a decade removed, the ER at Heart Hospital of Austin (near Central Market) was far less slammed than most and totally pro.

This is a good recommendation. I’ve had family members have really good experiences there.

I was born at Seton on 38th so if you end up there, tell them I sent you and they’ll take good care of you. Most of them probably remember me.

This is probably too late to be of any use, but make sure you go somewhere that can do both the imaging and the surgery, if needed.  If you get referred elsewhere after being admitted, your wife will end up having to endure transfer via ambulance.
