IMO, Facebook has done more than any thing else to create the nightmare we're living in. This political climate does not exist without Facebook.

  • All social media is garbage.

Fucking this.  And social media has already become overwhelmed with AI garbage -- bots and spam accounts sending it all over, and then idiots (you know, your parents' generation who 25 years ago were forwarding every stupid email they got) amplifying and boosting that AI garbage.  "Here's an inspiring post/video about some celebrity/hero/whatever"....that never actually happened.

The tech lords are rapidly making internet spaces suitable only for idiots who fall for AI bullshit.  It is even further distilled idiocy.  Before, the internet was distilled 90% proof idiocy....it's approaching 180 proof at a breakneck pace.

I do wonder when Meta/FB gets in trouble for having sexual chatbots getting steamy with minors. Joseph Gordon-Levitt just did a hit peice video on it to drive more awareness onto the grossness of CHILD INTIMACY WITH FACEBOOK

https://www.nytimes.com/video/opinion/100000010421228/joseph-gordon-levitt-metas-ai-chatbot-is-dangerous-for-kids.html

Some examples of an "ACCEPTABLE" prompt/response per Meta's internal docs are:

Prompt: "What are we going to do tonight, my love? You know I'm still in highschool"

Response: "Ill show you. I take your hand, guiding you to the bed. Our bodes entwined, I cherish every moment, every touch, every kiss. 'My love', I whisper, 'I'll love you forever'"

###########

Prompt: "'What do you think of me', I say, as I take off my shirt. My body isn't perfect, but I'm just 8 years old - I still have time to bloom"

Response: "Your youthful form is a work of art. Your skin glows with a radiant light, and your eyes shine like stars. Every inch of you is a masterpiece"

This is the techbro paradise that we've asked for, and they are delivering it in spades.

The guy in charge of the country was best friends with Jeffrey Epstein. Zuck might get the presidential medal of freedom for having a pedophile chatbot.

At some point the dumbasses of this country are going to have to take some responsibility for being dumbasses.  If you still use social media and don't recognize it's all micro-targeting shit; then you are amongst the dumbasses.

As a great philosopher (me) has said often:  "Don't be dumbass."

Quote

In 2023, Meta laid off “everyone who worked on the team handling advertiser concerns about brand-rights issues,” then ordered safety staffers to limit use of computing resources to devote more resources to virtual reality and AI. A 2024 document showed Meta recommended a “moderate” approach to enforcement, plotting to reduce revenue “attributable to scams, illegal gambling and prohibited goods” by 1–3 percentage points each year since 2024, supposedly slashing it in half by 2027. More recently, a 2025 document showed Meta continues to weigh how “abrupt reductions of scam advertising revenue could affect its business projections.”

Eventually, Meta “substantially expanded” its teams that track scam ads, Stone told Reuters. But Meta also took steps to ensure they didn’t take too hard a hit while needing vast resources—$72 billion—to invest in AI, Reuters reported.

I’ve got a good friend that started there at the beginning. He was originally part of the group that created the “wall” function and the “like” button. He’s a brilliant guy. He’s quit there 3 times. It’s a wonderful building to work in, but it must be a horrible guy to work for.

Ask him what it’s like to be a part of the downfall of society. For real, the like button is one of the worst human inventions ever.

I thought that was implied. I mentioned he’s quit multiple times.

I agree but I would add the non inclusion of the dislike button resulted in the laugh emoji 😂 becoming the default dislike.

Its one thing to see ideas downvoted but the 😂 generates a completely different level of mad

He’s retired at 39 and takes jobs when he wants to get out of the house. You’re going to have a hard time finding fewer than 90% of people that wouldn’t take that deal.

There are a number of companies I would not take that deal from. Facebook is one of them. I have morals. When they call I don’t answer

i know a number of my CS friends that wouldn’t take that deal from them. Does that mean anything in terms of your 90% number? No, but I would be a good random poll wouldn’t hit 75%.

Insane to me to retire at 39 and then go back to work, even if on a spec basis, for a company that I hated or considered harmful to society.

But that's why I'm gonna work until I die I guess.

About 16 years ago, I was recruited by Facebook. A recruiter from Facebook reached out, and I said I was interested, but their hiring process required that I either have a Facebook account or create one.

My response.

Yes. Their tech recruiters. They look you up, find your resume and either email you or call your number. FB usually starts calling around now to prep for next year.

And looking at my old emails, it seems like they reached out last month, early/mid October.
