Yet another Texas-based databroker in your pockets-- this one for driving telematics

Featured Replies

While the DOJ's slow grind is working on RealPage and six multi-state landlords, Ken Paxton is pursuing Allstate and Arity, a databroker incubated under Allstate, to collect, model, and resell driving data of Americans, collecting "trillions of miles" on consumers and often reselling those data profiles to other insurers.

It's widely understood that the largest insurers push their on-board telematics trackers as a means for discounting raising premiums based on "safe driving habits," but in this case, Arity was buying telematics data from third-party apps installed on consumers' smartphones and vehicles.

Known apps which Arity buys data from includes Fuel Rewards, Life360, GasBuddy, MyRadar, Routely, and some SiriusXM devices.  Allstate also bought this data directly from automakers, including Stellantis, Toyota, Lexus, and Mazda.

I just count on the systems to be both overwhelmed and irreparably disgusted by all the porn on my phone.  Swamp 'em with lotsa tig ole biddies, that's my plan!

I don't know if it works.  But hey, tig ole biddies!

So you're trying to tell me that multiple fortune 500 companies are selling data tracking information to and insurance company so that insurance company can increase rates.

I don't believe you.

On a serious note, I get the "you're paranoid" when people find out I prefer aps like Signal, use a VPN and don't install apps I don't absolutely need and use. I will sometimes try and explain that "big brother is the corporate Oligarchy that runs this country" and they use their own data against them.

I get a lot of blank stares and eye rolls. I'm the crazy one. I mean, I am crazy, but I'm not wrong.

Or how many cars roll off the sales lot with trackers/diagnostics modules plugged into the car, that report everything over cellular connections from speeds to locations, times of day, etc.   plenty of YouTube videos on how to remove them.

Just because you're paranoid, that doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.
