February 14Feb 14 Its no disrespect to Choice to suggest that good coaches sometimes have differences in philosophy and move around. Choice didnt want to recruit college running backs. Maybe he didn't want to fuck over his fellow rb coaches who knows. Its not a knock on his character. Maybe we get a rb coach who's more aggressive with the transfer portal. Maybe Choice is more suited to coaching grown men under contract in the NFL and positioning himself for a bigger role. Both can be true. Maybe I'm completely wrong. February 14Feb 14 Sorry if posted, from the Chronicle. (excerpts) Quote Choice, who had also been courted by the Dallas Cowboys this offseason, will be an especially critical setback because he had been instrumental in recruiting three top 10 commitments for the 2026 recruiting class. That includes Ezavier “EJ” Crowell, a four-star recruit from Jackson, Ala., who is ranked the No. 8 running back in that class. Crowell told Rivals that he was “shocked” to hear Choice was leaving and announced he is reopening his recruitment. He’s being heavily sought by Alabama and Auburn. “We had a great relationship,” Crowell told Rivals. “I’ve got to find another official visit.” He said he was canceling his planned June 6 visit to Austin. Texas is still in the running for Carthage running back KJ Edwards as well as Forney’s Javian Osborne. Choice will be reunited with Lions new defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard, one of his best friends since they played in the NFL together with the Buffalo Bills, as well as running Jahmyr Gibbs, whom Choice coached at Georgia Tech. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/college/longhorns/article/tashard-choice-leaves-detroit-lions-20165830.php

February 14Feb 14 CTJ, I know you're involved in the money side of things. I theorize that Choice had great unseen value on the retention side of NIL, getting his guys to buy in and reup cheap. That will be difficult and potentially costly to replace.

Tashard Choice is a lazy recruiter. You have to go all the way back to....2024....to see the last time he recruited a transfer running back. His laziness in recruiting is only outpaced by his inability to get our running backs into the draft. I hope our next RB coach remembers that not only is it recruiting top 10 in the nation running backs out of high school, you have to immediately try to find their replacements in the transfer portal instead of riding them into first round picks.

You just said he "didn't want to" and that his "nah, I'm good" answer irritated you and hoped the next guy would while suggesting that he was being pushed out the door because he wasn't recruiting which is the majority of most running back coaches' jobs. That definitely doesn't imply you thought he was lazy. And yall, I 100% get Velton Gardner was a warm body after injuries and not the savior of the room. It's just even within the last cycle it showed Choice pivoting that when they needed depth because the room got decimated by injuries, he went out and did the work. But seriously, in the years before that, who would you recruit out of the transfer portal to compete with Bijan and Roschon? There's only the tiniest sliver of an argument for adding another last year with Baxter, Brooks, and Keilan Robinson. This year, fine, make the argument but it was still a room with some experience and talented freshman coming in. It wasn't barren until injuries hit.

I've followed Choice's career since his playing days when he gave that badass speech in the GT locker room and have always considered him to be a man of high character. For him to want to give carries and opportunities to the guys who he sat in their living room and promised them opportunities is consistent with that perception. He also doesnt seem like the tampering type. He's a look you in the eye mean what he says type. He was a definite asset to the Longhorn football program, and any inferred disrespect on Tashard Choice's character or value as a coach has been wildly misconstrued here. Orphey is what you would get if you went in a lab and designed a prototype young, up and comer DB coach in a lab. >spent last 4 years learning to coach DBs from Saban and Schiano, two of the best technical teachers and guys who are hands on with the secondary >good enough interview to sell Sark, Saban, and Schiano on hiring him. Should translate to recruiting >went to North Shore

February 14Feb 14 Popular Post (From the Georgia Tech site.) Bio Errin Joe - Football - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Georgia Tech letterwinner Errin Joe is in his sixth season overall on his alma mater’s staff. He serves as the Yellow Jackets’ director of player personnel. Joe returned to The Flats in 2023 after spending the 2022 season as assistant director of player personnel at Alabama, where he helped the Crimson Tide recruit the nation’s No. 1-ranked incoming class. During his time at Alabama, he was named one of college football’s rising stars in personnel and recruiting staffers by On3. Prior to his 10-month stint at Alabama, Joe was hired as director of recruiting at UConn. He served in the role for two months before joining the Crimson Tide. From 2018-21, Joe was a member of Georgia Tech’s football staff. He came back to Tech in 2018 as a graduate assistant, working with the Yellow Jackets’ offensive line. He held that role for three seasons before moving into recruiting as Tech’s associate director of player personnel in 2021. As a student-athlete, Joe started 16 games over his final two seasons at Georgia Tech (2014-15). He started the final seven games of the 2014 campaign at right tackle, helping anchor an offensive front that led the nation in rushing with a school record 342.1 yards per game and allowed just 0.79 sacks per game, good for second nationally. He returned to The Flats after spending the 2017 season as quality-control assistant at Florida International University. Following the end of his playing career, he spent the 2016-17 academic year as an English teacher at his high school alma mater, Lake Gibson H.S. in Lakeland, Fla. Joe needed just three-and-a-half years to earn a bachelor’s degree in literature, media and communication from Georgia Tech, graduating in December 2014, and studied economics while completing his final season of athletic eligibility in 2015. He earned master’s degree in building construction and facility management from Georgia Tech in 2020.
February 14Feb 14 I guess we got him back as part of the trade for Gideon. I hope the rest of the return was a few players from Georgia for this cycle.
February 14Feb 14 Popular Post Bobby Burton Texas football coaches are back in the office. The coaches, the majority of them, actually returned yesterday morning from vacation. That’s when Tashard Choice told his peers and others in the building he was headed to the NFL. While it caught us off guard, Choice’s move was not entirely surprising. There was some thought he would go to Dallas just a week ago after speaking with the Cowboys. But Dallas’ contract offer didn’t even meet what Choice was making financially with the Longhorns. Detroit came calling. They valued Choice differently. So he’s off to the NFL. ** There’s no easy way to put it. Losing Choice is a definite loss for the Longhorns. He’s not only a good coach, he connects well with players and he brings a vibe to practice and the field that few can replicate. But… I’d caution anyone who wants to overreact to this move. Assistant coaches are often nomadic by profession. Until they become head coaches, they essentially are forced to be. People thought Bo Davis moving on to LSU would be hard to replace. Well, perhaps he was. But Kenny Baker has stepped in just fine. The same can be said for Chris Jackson taking over for Brennan Marion. The big moves that define staffs typically are the offensive and defensive coordinator, not the positional assistants. For that, Texas remains in good hands. Not only with Sark running the offense but with Pete Kwiatkowski operating the defense. In other words, it sucks to see Tashard Choice head off to the NFL. It truly does. But he will be replaced and the Texas offense will march on.

February 14Feb 14 Kind of interesting - I spoke with a high school and current friend of Gideon. He said there were "a lot" of better athletes on the Leander team. But, he worked his ass off and studied a lot of film because his dad was the coach. He knew what other teams were going to do and got the defense lined up correctly. So, basically it was true that he was a coach on the field. As for the move, the guy basically said that it was just the right opportunity (money and upward mobility).

Texas got 4 kids out of Georgia last year, that isnt a coincidence. He was welcomed at any school in Georgia and Florida. That is why I will be hoping for a long shot like Juluke to be the next RB coach at Texas.
