So he's been on staffs with Choate, Saban, and Schiano and has Houston/Texas ties. Not going to act like this is some no-doubter but seems like it can work just fine to me.

My sweet Lord. Reading the thread since the Muschamp hiring is borderline exhausting. Some of the hawtest takes on this recruiting board, ever, on here between pages 45 and 48. I was quoting posts at

  • This is a Nansen hire. He was behind the surge last year to bring him on as an analyst. The plan to hire him has been in place for a while, and if Blake would have stayed and Terry still left they wou

Who is the RB coach at Arizona State, and is he a good friend of Nansen's.

Not sure but Nansen never coached at that school

He joins Jeff Banks, Chris Jackson, and Johnny Nansen bringing our total to 4 former Washington State lettermen on staff. Banks’ rolodex is the gift that keeps on giving.

Bobby followed up with a comment that Curtis Luper is another name to watch.

Sounds like they think Luper, McKenzie and Barthel from Nebraska might be the three finalists.

Probably not Barthel

[Callahan] Nebraska extends RB coach E.J. Barthel through 2027 Salary jumps from $293K → $450K (Feb. 2025)

EJ Barthel just got extended at Nebraska, per their On3 site. Salary jump to $450k.

Edit: See above

Did we at least get a thank you note??

Bobby seems to be hinting that the guy we hire will likely be Norval McKenzie due to his recruiting ties to Georgia/Florida that can help replace Choice.

Barthel coached under Flood at Rutgers. Wonder if the latter was just doing the former a solid by getting his name out there.

What positions are still open just RB right?

Nickel corner and monitoring the Joseph situation. Hopefully just some negotiating there

Edit: interesting to see if the star position is a nickel corner next year or one of the 3 safeties we bring back plays it

My Ohio State buddy raved about La'Allen Clark

"He's gonna do great things with Simmons" which I took as a final concession in our yearlong "Simmons is as good as Jeremiah Smith" argument that had quieted since the Cotton Bowl

How do we not have a RB coach yet? Sark has lost control of the program.

I send my resume in every day. No response. No one is even calling my references.

Maybe because your references are 14 year old boys playing Madden in their mom’s basement

1-900-mul-dick is still active?

IIRC, Neal Brown called plays his last few years at WVU so Scott being OC was like Kyle Flood being our OC.

Of course, it's an out-of-left-field hire, so I won't pretend to know much about the guy, but I'll take it as a positive sign he was retained on a new staff, and he was the interim coach in their bowl game after Brown got fired, so my guess is the players liked him.

Sark must be getting all kinds of applicants

That's an odd one for sure but won't pretend to know enough to fully judge

Run game has held Sark back from two consecutive national title births. Quinn wasn’t great, but he was good enough to capture one. Better then that KSU transplant at Ohio State. Makes sense he’d want to bring someone in coming from a prolific ground game.

I thought EJ Barthel just got a raise and extended his contract with Nebraska.

That’s a “so UT what can you offer” deal.

A more consistent power running game is the missing piece to a title. If this dude can help them get there, it would be an intriguing hire.

Having of our full line that can power run block will also help

I know nothing but doesn’t that require scrapping the zone blocking schemes? I’m no coach but when I see so many guys just looking around while a dude goes past them is infuriating.

I'm rooting for Norval McKenzie.

His ties to Georgia and Florida are key.

Plus, anyone who's married to a lacrosse gold medalist, and has kids named Storm and Bolt is ok in my book.

Another hire the $9.95ers were clueless about.

Know absolutely nothing about him. Tell me how we should feel?

Yep. Been the trend. Leak 3-4 likely candidates right off the bat. Then 2 not well known but kinda interesting names come out . Finally, out of the blue somebody never mentioned is brought up and announced 30 minutes later.
