If Akina proves to be our worst defensive coach, we'll be just fine.

So he's been on staffs with Choate, Saban, and Schiano and has Houston/Texas ties. Not going to act like this is some no-doubter but seems like it can work just fine to me.

My sweet Lord. Reading the thread since the Muschamp hiring is borderline exhausting. Some of the hawtest takes on this recruiting board, ever, on here between pages 45 and 48. I was quoting posts at

  • This is a Nansen hire. He was behind the surge last year to bring him on as an analyst. The plan to hire him has been in place for a while, and if Blake would have stayed and Terry still left they wou

So whoever is the DC for Arizona this upcoming season, we can expect him on staff this time next year?

This is the funniest hire since the Mike Stopps meltdown, but in a much different way. I’m trying to think of an analogy, but can’t. Too damn funny but a little disappointed that Jerry Gray isn’t involved.

It’s the giant decorative crab of db coach hires

Reunited 'cause we understood
There's one perfect fit
And, brother, this one is it…
We both are so excited 'cause we're reunited, hey, hey…

What were Arizona fans saying about him last season?

Jeez, the guy is 68. This is a ridiculous hire. Texas is going to lose recruits over this.

probably shouldnt hire a position coach that is older than Bobby Burton. We need some standard. Would love to have him as an analyst.

Shit, dude, Bobby isn't THAT old.

Arizona doesn’t have any fans.

lol at y'all thinking Akina doesn't know how to coach

3 Thorpe winners, 6 Thorpe finalists, 41 NFL DBs including 7 Pro Bowlers.

‘Unlimited’ coaches reduces the recruiting impact.

And probably Jim Thorpe

Upset - I was looking forward to reading at least a few days worth of speculation, arguments, hate and Akina jokes.

Too quick, Sark.

I don’t need Schloss hiring Jim lefever.   This hire doesn’t make any sense.  It’s Sark showing us who’s boss

Played the long game, I see.

I’m not getting fussed over Sark hires yet, but this is comical. We would fucking roast the hicks in college station if they hit up hospice for a hire like this.

What I learned today is that Sark is reading the board. Hi Steve! Lose the weird blazers buddy!

Sark hired a coach that Surley doesn’t approve of?!?!?

Great fucking job Sark!!! That shit always works

Is he just coaching the left side or both corner positions? Can there be only one?

Who is coaching Nickelback, Chad Kroeger?

Also, I thought I remembered back in the day that we and the coaches were concerned because the line and the DBs weren't on the same page because Akina was good at coaching man but not good at coaching zone - or something like that - maybe I don't remember,

Someone in the know have any idea to what degree Sark was influenced by money/powers that be on this hire?  Seems atypical for him based on previous hires.

The money had absolutely zero to do with this. There isn’t a donor out there begging for a random assistant hire.

No they will not. Good lord. Texas has a ton of young recruiting support and Akina has all of the skins on the wall otherwise.

Sark has clearly lost a step and Greg Davis is only 73 years old.

I’m nowhere near 73, buddy.

He’s the opposite. This is a bad take and you should feel bad.

I don't know who you think you're talking to but while you were drinking Aleezee at  KA parties I was on Surly breaking news on head coaching rumors

I mean... The dude can coach. If you want to maximize a two year championship window and mentor our young CB coach it's not a terrible hire.

Dude it’s a terrible hire. In 754 years of coaching Akina still cannot teach corners what a zone defense is. And that basically what we run.

Only in orangebloods land does hiring a guy who's coached 3 Thorpe award winners, 41 NFL Dbs, 7 pro-bowl DBs, and 12 All-American DBs not make any sense.

He's one of the best, if not THE best, DB coach in college football history.

Did he forget how to coach DB's because he's older?

That’s why for the past decade everyone has been beating down his door to get him to coach at their school.

Please tell me what you know about his offers or lack thereof.

The DC (and real MVP) for the Super Bowl champ Philadelphia Eagles Vic Fangio is 66. That decrepit old man got through to the Philly youngsters ok (even though the pussy ass Dolphin players ran him off because he coached them too hard). He dialed up a great game plan that made Mahomes look downright ordinary. They had another couple coaches in their 60s as well. It’s not a death sentence and there’s a lot to be said for experience and wisdom.

Look Mrs Akina, he isn’t a fucking analyst or position coach at Stanford in the midst of complete irrelevance because Nick Saban, Kirby Smart and Dabo were fighting over him and he decided to take the 2-10 school as a compromise.

It's not like he's been sitting on the couch for that whole time.  He was a P5 DB coach or DC for all but one of those years.

????  He was DC at Arizona.   Also: seven first round picks.

Oh.  didn't think of that.  I hope CDC has Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells on his short list if Sark decides to bolt
