Dude was at fucking Cal Looking back, he was one of the more “meh?” hired at the time. No one had a strong criticism, but no one here was excited, either. Seems like a great get at this point.
March 5Mar 5 It's almost like Sark pays attention to every phase of the program and has a good idea of what coaches at other schools of all sizes are doing.

March 5Mar 5 One thing I have noticed about Sark is that he has very specific things he wants at all levels of the program. As an example, he doesn't want DL out of the portal with less than 500 snaps in P4 football. He doesn't want coaches who don't have specific kinds of track records of development, etc. It gives a pretty high level of comfort knowing that as the staff continues to get raided each offseason that he will replace with a coach of similar quality.
March 5Mar 5 I've gotten to the point where when Sark hires someone I've never heard of, I am excited to see how it goes. Maybe it doesn't work out, but it seems like these unknowns keep becoming the next big thing.

Sark played for Norm Chow and LaVell Edwards at BYU, well before the forward pass made it down to Texas. The amount of time Sark interned under Pete Carroll and Nick Saban puts him in a very tiny class of football coaches. That said, the same experience doesn't translate to success if you don't put in the effort to identify your needs, secure the personnel to execute your plan, and commit the resources and build a support structure to make it all work. Even then, it takes a constant attention to detail to make it all work. Recruits see that attention to detail in the way players conduct themselves, in practice and in the weight room, and in the way it manifests on the football field. He has done an admirable job of his role in building the program and in the his staff, even if 50.1% of Surly disagreed with him and thought he was never going to be the guy. I remember his remarks on PK, that Sark never coached with him, but he coached against him. And he wanted PK to coach the defense because his defense gave the offense fits. That said a lot to me abou Sark. Even though some here didn't agree with him. Edited March 5Mar 5 by PTINS typo. text.

March 5Mar 5 Taaffe Guilbeau I’m ecstatic for these guys who had to make a decision to come back, and now get rewarded with a year with Professor Akina.

I remember wondering if he was Goff's strength and conditioning coach. Lol. You're right though that Becton has been nails for us.

Rodney Terry clearly absorbed nothing from Beard and Barnes.
March 7Mar 7 Popular Post You're thinking Keith Moon.So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.
March 19Mar 19 I'm reminded of former Astros prospect, Colin Moran, due to these last few posts. True to his almost name, the guy once cleanly fouled a ball off of his face. He missed months after that due to the injury. I have watched and/or played baseball for many decades and I have never seen anything like that, before or since. I believe it was partly out of embarrassment that the Astros included him in a trade that offseason and he never wore the Astros uniform again. May this Moran be less Moranic than the last one.

He was in the Gerrit Cole trade I believe with Musgrove. That ball off the face thing was bewildering. Yeah- I’ve never seen anything like that in all my years watching baseball.
March 20Mar 20 If I have my Joseph Family Tree correct, Mickey and Vance are brothers and the most prominent (there’s even a younger brother Sammy now coaching), and Terry is their cousin. All are from Louisiana, as is Kerry, the presumed new Texas hire. Not sure if Kerry is related to the other Josephs, but if he is, they’ve done a good job covering up any links. The football pathways are somewhat similar, with a willingness to move a lot. If they are related, perhaps Kerry is the one keeping his distance, as he seems pretty Jesus-y on social media, and both Mickey and Vance have been grabby/punchy in the past.
March 20Mar 20 Sark's plan is to hire all of the football coaches in America. The other teams won't have a chance if they don't have any coaches.

March 21Mar 21 It feels like Sark's plan is to develop coaches and then promote from within when someone gets poached.
