The stuff I've seen on Kyle Williams at LSU is he hates the current landscape of recruiting/NIL and just wants to be done with it.

So he's been on staffs with Choate, Saban, and Schiano and has Houston/Texas ties. Not going to act like this is some no-doubter but seems like it can work just fine to me.

I had missed that Robinson had been demoted from DC at Syracuse. Yeah, some SEC is for sure going to hire him as a DL coach.

Mehringer is the poster child for failing upward.  He'll probably end up getting a blue blood head coaching job one day.

Mehringer as the OC at Rutgers for Chris Ash was one of the biggest debacles of the last 20 years. I swear I think it was the worst offense statistically in the country in whatever year that took place.

I know we discussed it back in the day, but if you have never looked at the first staff Ash hired as HC at Rutgers, it’s worth a review. I contend it’s one of the worst power conference staffs ever assembled.

Weren’t we a top 10-20 special teams units by most advanced metrics?

He provides quite a bit in recruiting behind the scenes it sounds like. Not someone I would be excited about losing.

Were we there because of great efforts by the specialist themselves? The units as a whole were ass and penalty ridden.

LSU DC (Baker) just turned down the Tulane job. Their edge coach will certainly be staying now as well so that removes any chance of them poaching Clark (which was mentioned earlier today in here).

Well, he's a better ST coach than he is a TE coach. So he's got that going for him.

Speaking of ex-coaches… I’m sure this is going to go really well for both Brennan and Deion. No way this turns into an absolute tire fire. And Marion is really committed to his streak of never holding the same job for more than about 12 months.

Would love for Jeff Banks to leave. Fuck that dude. Can't stand our return team taking it out of the end zone for a holding penalty (instead of a free 25 yard line) and our punt return team going for idiotic block attempts instead of letting the best returner in CFB return the kick.

The guy is an an idiot.

That LSU staff is going to be a headache to deal with. Sounds like they are keeping Corey Raymond and Peoples as well to go with Robinson (and Baker their DC of course). Those are all elite recruiters. On the offensive side the belief is both Frank Wilson and Hankton are staying as well. Not pissing down my leg or anything but it is just objectively going to be a much more difficult path towards pillaging their backyard as opposed to the last few cycles. I'm going to miss Kelly sabotaging all their efforts on an almost monthly basis.

He brought his WR coach from Ole Miss with him so I doubt Hankton is staying.

The fact they haven’t announced Wilson is staying along with the other holdovers raises an eyebrow.

I can see a scenario where Deion "retires " due to health concerns and Brennan is promoted to HC. Almost like it was planned.

I somehow missed that McDonald was one of those joining Kiffin at LSU. I had thought it announced he was staying at Ole Miss like Smith. Not sure wtf their insiders meant then when they were saying this week they expected both to stay on staff with a shifting of roles. Just isn't room.

That would be unbelievably dumb. Marion underachieved with a big budget at Sac State this year and has never shown much evidence he can actually coach.

Nah. That would be bad for Marion and CU.

Yes, but it's Colorado.

Don't disagree.  But once again, we're talking Colorado here.

It's just staggering mismanagement. I think we all had doubts about what we were going to be putting on the field, but it was more like "Well, I guess Flood and Sark know something we don't." Nope, evidently not.

Same exact deal at RB. "Well I guess Christian Clark must be looking like a Bijan clone in practice, and Baxter must look 100% of how he looked two years ago". Nope. What the fuck were these guys watching?

Hey @closetojumping,

Any changes being discussed with Texas staff that builds the roster??

This seems to be a huge part of the problem since Glasscock left...

I would have to ask a lot of questions to know anything like that and I don’t ask a lot of questions.

We have yet to field an elite OL since Flood came to Texas. Granted the last couple of years weren't an abomination like this year, they still folded like cheap tents when we played the elite teams. Flood should not get any benefit of the doubt at this point. He has had plenty of time to correct a lingering and worsening issue.

Very true.

The OL did take a step up from past iterations upon arrival, though, for whatever reason.  But never was elite, despite the alleged talent.

I'm hoping Flood is done. Akina is a given. Flood had a great y1 OL class, had 4 years to get a "next" OL ready and we get this shit?

Since y1 he has occasionally recruited 1 good prospect and then bread. Last year Brooks was the highlight. This year Robertson may after 2 years of body reshaping. Turntine is a jumbo TE at this point and needs 40-50lbs of good weight. Lee was a huge miss, I'd trade all our OL this class for him. The problem with this is if that if your one decent prospect misses or leaves after multiple years of paying him to ride the bench, you're screwed and relying on bread.

I haven't seen anything to suggest OL development other than what T. Becton has done in S&C. Someone above said, maybe some of these guys have peaked? Yep, 3* bread has peaked. The amount of holds, no ability to open lanes or move people, bad pass protection, etc. This shit is on Flood and his shit recruiting of large (basically tall, very out of shape, super slow, fat people) humans.

The big difference is that everybody’s paying now.

Reading this board is always funny to me because in every thread there are posts how we’ve  sucked ass through a straw and we have coaching  and developmental problems along with portal issues.  Yet we’ve been to final four last 2 yrs and have a top 10 resume this year while sending guys to the league. If I didn’t watch the games I’d think we haven’t made a bowl since sark got here.
Yes I believe we should be better in spots but a lot of fucking teams would love to have our last 3 yrs no doubt.  Btw I don’t care what the stats say, we dont have the worst oline in the country , im watching some pretty shitty oline work today by god.

Hard to disagree overall. It appears Flood has failed to recruit well or develop well. Might overcome one of those, but not both...and especially not in the SEC. Something is broken, and I don't think it's simply a matter of lacking another Earl, Ricky or Jamaal to hit the right hole.

Sark insists on zone blocking and your OL coach tagline is "Big Humans". Big humans for zone blocking? How about athletic and strong humans? Because that's what you see on NFL rosters, especially those that specialize in zone blocking. Big humans could work with gap scheme, but either he can't coach gap scheme or our big humans are weak humans also.

I have the same issue with corners. We go and buy lengthy, fast corners suited to play man defense or aggressive matchup zone. But instead we get baby soft zone defense with 10 yard cushions.

Our personnel priorities do not align with our strategy. It's just infuriating.

On the IT q&a this morning, Nahlin took the over on 2.5 coaching changes.

The fact that we're waiting and hoping to squeak into the playoffs got me feeling surly.

We should not be in this position and it falls entirely on the coaching staff.

If Indiana can do it, so can Texas.

They were not "all white" but they will likely be named top oline this year.

I don’t see this.  He did well as OC at UNLV.  He took over a sub-.500 team from the past two seasons.  He got them to the cusp of the playoffs in a conference with Montana, Montana State, and UC Davis (predicted 6th, finished 4th).  He is very intriguing with good (if not great) results.  Now, the head scratcher is why he gambles moving from HC to OC.  The main answer we have seen first hand with Jeff Choate leaving a great FCS gig at Montana State to be LB coach at UT while more than doubling his pay.

I cannot say with 100% conviction Akina is out but I can say it with 99%.

A major consideration right now is offensive line coach Kyle Flood. IT has heard Flood’s name connected with a couple potential landing spots. Given these jobs wouldn’t be as good as his current job, we think he’s looking for a safe haven.

One position we’re watching is wide receivers. Chris Jackson’s contract is up. We’d put it at 50/50 whether he returns. We’re curious to see what happens. He’s very well liked in his room. If he leaves, I don’t believe it will be based on job performance.

Yeah, I've been wondering about Jackson.

Wingo's lack of development is troubling. Runs shitty routes and doesn't create any separation. If we're using him as a barometer for Jackson's teaching skills, it's been a failure so far.
