December 11Dec 11 Legit question. Stroh is 6.6, ~350lbs, a yard wide. In theory if he just gets low it's 2 seconds to get around him. Get a hand on them and it's a bonus 1-2 seconds? What makes a giant like him fail so badly? Speed, T-Rex arms, weak (he's got to have lower body strength just to walk at 350lbs), development, talent? Honest question. 2nd - I know many of you hit the gym. Is it easier to gain 40-50 of decent mass or lose 20-30 of bad mass? I was a swimmer, neither was a concern for me, so I have no idea. I just needed cardio. Thanks for input. Â
December 11Dec 11 Oh, and that GT RB coach is very interesting imo. Not a chance on Rutgers guy. The GT guy would come into this program in awe and his head on fire to produce. Â Edited December 11Dec 11 by hornlife

Get a hand on them and it's a bonus 1-2 seconds From what I’ve seen, he not assignment sound, which isn’t terribly shocking for a first year player and reputedly Sark’s offense requires more versatility on the line than some others (he wants to be multiple).  That, plus a lack of athleticism means he can’t play strong, even against smaller players because his technique falls apart if he can’t lock on a DT.   This leaves a lot of free rushers as he tries to arm block, and when it’s in the A gap it forces the center over and he’s got a bad angle there, too.  He might be fine as a senior but he’s a bad eval as a player if he can’t provide meaningful snaps after 3 years on campus.  I think it’s also pretty clear that there’s eval/scouting malpractice that’s more structural, I.e., maybe prioritizing size over every other characteristic is dumb.  Â

December 11Dec 11 Damn it's aggravating to watch all that again. The reason he's falling down/getting thrown down so much is that's he's leaning and lunging, getting his weight way out in front of his feet. He needs to sink his hips into a more athletic position and keep his center of gravity above his feet so that when he contacts a defender he can deliver a rising blow, latch on, and use leg strength to drive with quick choppy steps.

If no to all- 1) Have they coached at Texas before? 2) If yes, are in AARP? 3) If yes, do they have ties to FUPM? 4) If yes, has the game passed them by and are they inferior to the person they are replacing? If yes to all - hire them immediately If no to all- 1) Do they have zero history in that position historically? 2) If yes, are they yes men that have no skills and clearly are willing to flounder around indefinitely? - If yes to all hire them immediately and keep them no matter what.  Â

December 11Dec 11 IT update on RB coach search Spoiler Given what we've heard, we believe Jabbar Juluke is the clear No. 1 choice for Texas. Given that Nakos is hearing other names, we believe Texas is running a thorough process and not putting all its eggs in one basket. Let's revisit this from yesterday: I do believe the plan is to make a seamless transition from Scott to Juluke, provided Juluke passes further inspection. It's one thing to know someone by their reputation, you still want to get to know them personally and gauge their fit for the program. In other words, per the screen cap above, I think it's the latter but they are still in the feeling out process. If the parties continue on the current trajectory, I do think this gets done and Jabbar Juluke will be the next running backs coach at Texas. Other candidates Nakos mentioned were LSU's Frank Wilson, Nebraska's EJ Barthel, and Georgia Tech's Norval McKenzie. This is already a better process than the one that led to Chad Scott. Â

The sad reality is that he must have sucked in practice the way he did in games, but Flood really thought he was a neat fella and worked him into the lineup anyway.

I have never heard that he just couldn't block or play the position. It's all been "he gets in fights and will cost us penalties in key moments" and "he could miss an assignment at the wrong time and get Manning killed". I never heard "boy, Stroh took out 3 players on his own offense on one play with his abject ineptitude" but we all then watched him do that. I still find myself actually snickering to myself when I think about the practice photo of some DL just tossing Stroh head over heels or sideways like a ragdoll and then one of you fuckers coming onto the thread (wish I could remember which thread and reread that shit) and saying something to the effect of "boy, hope that's not a regular thing with Stroh if he might be starting against Ohio State". I accompanied Lil' Nigel on an unofficial during the season 3 years ago now.  This was the prime of Sark wanting size over anything else to make over the roster. Both Stroh and Kirkland were there with us. They were the two largest 17 year olds I will probably ever see. Stroh was the larger of the two, an absolute giant. While the OL certainly go larger, those two obviously did not work out and I can't see how this wasn't apparent in all those practices.

Well said. When you look at the roster and what transpired this season, the interior line looks like a gigantic blackhole. The rest of the roster looks pretty fucking stout. That's a major issue.
December 11Dec 11 Are we sure Neto didn't have some kind of injury or illness or personal issue and the team managed to keep things private?

Something definitely happened outside of the field because the swap to Stroh was too sudden.  The fact Neto never looked as bad as Stroh but Stroh kept seeing the field week after week and Neto never played again even when we were throwing shit at the wall makes me think Neto was in doghouse.   Ultimately the only people that this says anything about are Flood and Sark.  And it’s not good.Â
December 11Dec 11 The curious thing about the Neto situation is that he has been publicly quiet on the situation. Or at least I'm not aware of him publicly complaining. You would expect a national top-200 guy who got beat out by the worst player on the team to be first in line in the portal. Or to be pissing and moaning on twitter like Kris Boyd used to do. But he hasn't said jack shit and he's not in the portal yet. I think that's kinda weird.

I know Steve wasn't really hands-on this offseason and what feels like much of the early season, but it baffles me how someone who can be very involved misses a flaw this big. Especially in one of his most visible talent managers. So he either wilfully ignores it which is bad, he knows about it and doesn't care which is bad, or he plays the same favorites as flood until a gun is pointed to his head which is also bad Edited December 11Dec 11 by Noozak

Obviously I have no idea what happened behind the scenes or who's to blame but something must have happened.
