Everything relayed about Neto fits quite nicely into the "someone doesn't like this guy" bucket. I have never heard that he just couldn't block or play the position. It's all been "he gets in fights and will cost us penalties in key moments" and "he could miss an assignment at the wrong time and get Manning killed".

I never heard "boy, Stroh took out 3 players on his own offense on one play with his abject ineptitude" but we all then watched him do that.

I still find myself actually snickering to myself when I think about the practice photo of some DL just tossing Stroh head over heels or sideways like a ragdoll and then one of you fuckers coming onto the thread (wish I could remember which thread and reread that shit) and saying something to the effect of "boy, hope that's not a regular thing with Stroh if he might be starting against Ohio State". Fucking dude was sadly prophetic.

This is the thing I'd always heard, although it wasn't in much detail. Struggled with assignments once we moved past early install offense and facing a vanilla base defense in practice. I assume he potentially quiet quit once fucking Stroh was moved ahead of him

So he's been on staffs with Choate, Saban, and Schiano and has Houston/Texas ties. Not going to act like this is some no-doubter but seems like it can work just fine to me.

My sweet Lord. Reading the thread since the Muschamp hiring is borderline exhausting. Some of the hawtest takes on this recruiting board, ever, on here between pages 45 and 48. I was quoting posts at

  • This is a Nansen hire. He was behind the surge last year to bring him on as an analyst. The plan to hire him has been in place for a while, and if Blake would have stayed and Terry still left they wou

That likely grades higher than Hutson's lowlights this season. Waste of a season. Sark's evaluations and leadership must improve.

It didn't fulfill any of our expectations, and it did underutilize some high end talent, but beating OU, aggy, and Arkansas isn't a waste of a season. If you only view college football as championship or nothing, it's a pretty grim hobby (hence why Ohio State and Bama fans aren't known as the happiest fanbases in the sport).

I certainly understand your point about enjoying the things you have to enjoy (like beating every one of our rivals) but I am forced to admit that I view missing the playoffs as a wasted season given all the resources that went into making a run for this year.

Washington State fans seem to think that Nansen is now the front runner for their job and picking up serious momentum to land it. Not a killer if he leaves but it would certainly suck.

I get the impression that he has not been the best influence on Sark off the field.

I've heard mixed. That old patterns did emerge at one point but that Nansen is one of the few people who actually told Sark he needs to chill the fuck out and got him to listen. Who knows how much if any of that is accurate though even when its coming from people directly connected to them.

Nansen has certainly been as advertised when it comes to LB development, schematic contribution and recruiting. Tough person to replace though you would think Justin Wilcox is an obvious candidate (perhaps a lazy suggestion but I mean the connections with Sark are obvious and he also coaches LB).

Wilcox was also PK's boss (as DC) at Boise for a while

I know this is probably dumb, but is Jimmy Lake completely out of the question? Terrible HC and only so-so as a DC, but him calling the backfield of a PK defense could be great.

Poster on their 247 board:

I've got it in pretty good authority that Nansen wants the job, and is talking to former players about joining him on staff. That's directly from one of the coaches Nansen is gauging interest in joining him in Pullman.

Nansen was solid but Sark needs less buddy coaches from past times on his staff

Ah didn't realize it was time for the annual litigating of if Jimmy Lake and Pete like each other/Pete should hire him

To my understanding things did not end well between Lake and PK. Their relationship quickly grew toxic after Lake became his boss and there was some conflict over who was responsible for the declining performance of that defense. It has been quite a few years now since then so who knows. Maybe the relationship could be repaired if they really wanted to make it work.

The bigger concern with Lake is how much his players seemed to hate him. I'm talking Tom Herman levels of hatred by his players by the time he was fired. There were multiple public incidents involving physical altercations between Lake and his players, though they were very minor, but implications of many more behind the scenes. Part of why Washington fired him. Some of that stuff always gets overblown but there is enough smoke there I think we would probably avoid Lake.

Maybe Jeff Choate wants a soft exit from Nevada. Surprised he even still has his job there. He could use a do-over.

Most hires are going to be guys a coach has worked with previously or has a connection to. If it's not one of those two, it's a recommendation from someone they trust (Banks recommending Chris Jackson since they played together, etc.)

I would welcome Choater the Goater back with open arms.

Eh, I never got the sense that he was a great recruiter, although he was a good coach. Justin Wilcox would rock, but not sure if he would want to take that role coming out of a P4 HC job.

You actually made me think about this for a second. No one can choke on virtually every single snap for multiple games in a row. The sad reality is that he must have sucked in practice the way he did in games, but Flood really thought he was a neat fella and worked him into the lineup anyway.

I mean, that is all the indictment that should be needed to fire Flood. Our DL was good, and certainly good enough to show how bad Stroh was in practice. Unless of course he was only matched against Melvin Hills

Depends on the assignment. Looks pretty confident here.

Alford was at OSU and then went turncoat. They were pissed that he left, especially to Michigan. I don’t know what the industry thinks of the guy, but he seems to churn out productive backs who then get drafted. Someone can wiki him and verify or debunk that. I’d take him right now over Drayton, the Rutgers person, or the bagman at LSU.

All I hear from LSU fans is that Frank Wilson is a great recruiter and a terrible coach.

Any coach Sark has met or heard about is off the table. The hire needs to be a complete unknown or it’s SUS and will trigger his alcoholism.

As long as his recruiting territory includes Hawaii again he’s in

You clearly know jack shit about Texas' search criteria for position coaches. Let me help.

1) Do they have a stripper girlfriend

2) If yes, does that girlfriend own a monkey

3) If yes, is that monkey violent and prone to biting

-if yes then - Hire and never fire that fine coaching staff asset.

If no to all-

1) Have they coached at Texas before?

2) If yes, are in AARP?

3) If yes, do they have ties to FUPM?

4) If yes, has the game passed them by and are they inferior to the person they are replacing?

If yes to all - hire them immediately

If no to all-

1) Do they have zero history in that position historically?

2) If yes, are they yes men that have no skills and clearly are willing to flounder around indefinitely?

- If yes to all hire them immediately and keep them no matter what.

We had a top 5 budget, in this era you make the playoffs or you lost the season. No one competing cares about feelings & being "happy", they can check their bank accounts for that now. Sark must improve.

He took the side piece on a fuck trip to Hawaii under the guise of visiting a recruit?

You must be a hoot at parties.

It's not my money (mostly), and it's still college football, a thing that is fun. We keep underperforming then we get rid of Sark obviously, but seeing things so black and white just seems like a miserable way to spend your free time.

Most of this board is old fucks and the dread of not seeing a Texas natty again before they die is starting to set in and it shows.

Who does, "We underperformed for the season, missed reasonable goals, but we beat our rivals so the season is fun and good." sound like to you? Back to back play off championship participation trophies.

Put it on the wall!!

I like your TV. Does it play high definition?

Damn it's aggravating to watch all that again.  The reason he's falling down/getting thrown down so much is that's he's leaning and lunging, getting his weight way out in front of his feet.  He needs to sink his hips into a more athletic position and keep his center of gravity above his feet so that when he contacts a defender he can deliver a rising blow, latch on, and use leg strength to drive with quick choppy steps.
