Zero completion to a TE against UTSA, two combined catches for 15 yards between Gunner and Davis against ULM, and then Gunner did have 5 catches against MSU, but only had 23 yards on them. Could be game plans or just a coincidence, but it does go against the traditional narrative of a young QB relying on his TE as a safety blanket. I feel like the gameplan is never set around the TE in Sarkisian's offense, but the position is often the safety valve. Accordingly, there are games where the role isn't really needed in the passing game. UTSA and La Monroe felt like two of those games. 21 minutes ago, MuellerHorn said: 2025 Freshman Class | What to Expect (Thursday AM) - CJ Vogel Hide contents OTF Premium 2025 Freshman Class | What to Expect (Thursday am) By CJ Vogel Just now Predictions and Expectations for the 2025 Freshman Class The No. 1 ranked class in the country is a little over five weeks away from the start of their careers in Austin, Texas. With an expectation that this class will provide some juice to help assist the Longhorns over the hump and into the National Championship game in 2025, I wanted to run down my current expectations for their first season as Longhorns. 25 new faces, there will be plenty of contributors here in the fall. *** #8 QB KJ Lacey – Redshirt All in all, a redshirt year will be the plan for Lacey in 2025. Texas has been fortunate enough to redshirt its last three quarterbacks – Maalik Murphy, Arch Manning and Trey Owens. A year ago, Owens saw 27 total snaps, split between UTSA and ULM. That would be a dream scenario for Lacey in 2025. #24 RB Rickey Stewart – Redshirt #31 RB James Simon – Rotational Piece The Texas running backs room has plenty of bodies, but finding guys who can separate themselves from the pack will be key in fall camp. Based off of the returns from the spring, James Simon certainly has a case for early contributions. A redshirt year for Rickey Stewart is most likely the plan, a great opportunity to build some armor and prepare for 2026. #2 WR Jaime Ffrench – Rotational Piece/Redshirt Candidate #7 WR Kaliq Lockett – Rotational Piece #11 WR Michael Terry III – Redshirt Candidate #17 WR Daylan McCutcheon – Key Contributor Handicapping the wide receiver position is quite difficult. A year ago, only six receivers saw more than 30 snaps, and that includes one that quit midseason. Texas has four receivers now in the "circle of trust" and it appears to me that Daylan McCutcheon is the closest of the group to scratching the rotation full time. Next of the bunch is Kaliq Lockett who has really turned it on in the summer. My gut tells me Ffrench won't redshirt, but I still am bearish on just how much we will see of him in 2025. Basically, will he break the four game threshold? That's TBD. The same applies for Michael Terry III, for now. #81 TE Nick Townsend – Special Teams Ace / Rotational Piece #85 TE Emaree Winston – Redshirt Candidate Texas has been very cautious with its tight ends under Steve Sarkisian. Remember, neither Ja'Tavion Sanders, nor Gunnar Helm, saw meaningful time as true freshmen. Could that change for Nick Townsend, a jumbo athlete OTF has raved about? It sure could, but originally in a special teams role in my eyes. I believe the 12 personnel package to begin the year will be Endries/Washington, but Townsend's physicality will raise the level of the room instantly. #59 OL Devin Coleman – Redshirt #71 OT Nick Brooks – Key Contributor #76 OL Jackson Christian – Redshirt #78 OL Jordan Coleman – Redshirt As we have discussed over the last two years, the Longhorn offensive line is in a spot of luxury where true freshmen are not needed to see the field before they are truly ready. Again, it is a luxury. I am expecting the Coleman brothers and Christian to redshirt this fall. However, Nick Brooks at the moment is in that OT3 position and could even make a run for play time with a strong fall camp. If a tackle goes down, it would be Brooks to see the field first off the sideline. #33 DL Myron Charles – Rotational Piece #90 DL Josiah Sharma – Rotational Piece A year ago Alex January played in 13 games, while Melvin Hills did not suit for a game. Similarly to the OL, Texas doesn't need to play its freshmen in the trenches. Texas likes both of its interior guys quite a bit, and while they added a stable of portal transfers in the offseason, there should be enough opportunity to get both pieces on the field to break the redshirt. This holds especially true if the plan is to not take 4-5 in the portal again in 2026. #15 EDGE Justus Terry – Solid Contributor #40 EDGE Lance Jackson – Solid Contributor #46 EDGE Smith Orogbo – Redshirt If the Texas EDGE room wasn't as deep as it currently was, I would have both Lance Jackson and Justus Terry in the conversation to be immediate impact guys. However, fighting over snaps from Simmons-Vasek-Burke-Umeozulu plus Spence/Moore and possibly Hill won't be available right away. There will be plenty of snaps for Terry and Jackson in 2025. For Smith Orogbo, this is a great chance to rehab his knee, and add to his frame – Orogbo stands currently at 222 pounds per the Texas roster. #30 LB Bo Barnes – Special Teams Contributor/Rotational Piece #37 LB Jonathan Cunningham – Redshirt Again, Texas is rather deep at linebacker. Ty'Anthony Smith a year ago saw 185 snaps on special forces and 98 snaps on defense, numbers I believe will be duplicated by Barnes in year one. Barnes is just too big, and too fast to leave sidelined for special forces. As for Cunningham, I could certainly see him being a special teams piece as well. However, at 6–2.5, 195, I would like to see some additional armor added to his frame, and believe he would be suited for a traditional redshirt year. #11 CB Kade Phillips – Solid Contributor #25 CB Caleb Chester – Redshirt #29 CB Graceson Littleton – Rotational Piece The names of Kade Phillips and Graceson Littleton have frequently popped up in conversations with team sources throughout the spring and summer. At the very least, the two will see time in special forces. A year ago, Kobe Black saw 110 snaps in nine games, will that many snaps be available this fall? I believe that will be determined by the margin of victories for the Longhorns. But both are first off the bench candidates given their quick ascent. #9 DB Jonah Williams – Solid Contributor #13 DB Zelus Hicks – Redshirt I have no doubt you will see Zelus Hicks on the field in 2025, but do question if he breaks the four game regular season barrier. For now, that is my hold up. As for Jonah Williams, even after no spring session, he will be a rotational piece. Williams has added to his frame a good five pounds since the conclusion of the baseball season and will be fighting for time on the field with Jordon Johnson-Rubell and Xavier Filsaime in the S4 converation. At the end of the day, Williams might just be your most valuable special teams piece as well. Lockett, Ffrench, and Michael Terry are all getting paid handsomely. If they're that far behind McCutcheon, that's portends a grim return.

Not sure what this offense will look like, but I expect it to look more aggressive and explosive this year. I think we will see more of the field being used in the passing game. Quinn was pretty conservative in his decision making. Arch seems to have a little more gunslinger to him. I still expect a lot of the screen game, but a lot more PA shots down the field. That might cut back on TE catches. I do worry about TE blocking. It hasnt been strong the last couple years and I am not sure anyone on the roster is an upgrade in that department currently

July 25Jul 25 Popular Post IT stuff: Given the way I view the football calendar, the season begins in less than a week. Thursday marked the last workout before the team reports for fall camp next Tuesday. After reporting, the program begins practice on Wednesday. With just a brief break before the start of camp, Steve Sarkisian addressed the team. According to those who interact with Sark, he’s pleased with where the team stands as it exits summer workouts. The players are working hard and hitting new speed PRs to boot. Leadership is in a good place. Overall, the head man appears happy with the state of his program. The proof is in the pudding. Sark gave them a half-day off today, and this week was yet another de-load period—balancing good effort with smart recovery. The players didn’t grind themselves into the ground. Sark is as focused on January as he is on September—or August 30, for that matter. Actually, that might not be accurate. There is a ton of focus on Ohio State already. The coaches have used it as motivation and see it as another opportunity to set the tone and springboard team confidence into the season. A good performance in Columbus would lend credibility to what everyone believes has been a great offseason. Other teams that are periodically brought up include Georgia and Florida. With that preamble out of the way, let’s get into some player intel. Wide Receiver Joe Cook sent out roundtable questions, and Ian and I both mentioned Ryan Wingo as a potential fall camp MVP. With Wingo on our minds, we asked for the latest on the sophomore. Said one source: “I think he’ll be a top-5 wide receiver this year.” He continued, “He’s leaner, stronger, faster, and playing faster with more time in the system. Super fast.” Good enough for me. Inside Texas asked who had a good week, and Aaron Butler was mentioned. He made a number of contested catches and continues to mature. With that in mind, the source was asked whether Parker Livingstone was still expected to be WR4. He wasn’t having any of that—he thinks Livingstone is in contention for WR3 alongside Emmett Mosley. “That’s a real battle.” While this source remains the highest on Daylan McCutcheon among the freshmen for this year, he also noted that Jaime Ffrench and Kaliq Lockett have become much more consistent. Ethan Burke I have a sneaky suspicion the senior is going to break out after a solid—but not great—junior year. While we marvel at the young depth, we also emphasize the importance of experience. “He’s the man this year. No more special teams or sitting behind Barryn Sorrell. He looks the best he’s ever looked physically and is a leader.” These kinds of statements usually portend good things. Special Teams After talking about Burke, I discussed Lance Jackson with the source. You probably noticed the brief article on his explosiveness on Thursday. While we’re not sure what to expect from Jackson this year, the source is extremely confident he’s going to become a stud. This season, however, might be more focused on special teams (punt and kick) and spot duty at Edge. Other freshmen who might make a special teams impact include: Jonah Williams: “for sure” Daylan McCutcheon: “competing to return” Graceson Littleton: “because he’ll do anything to get on the field” Rickey Stewart: thanks to “speed and will run through a brick wall” From the sound of it, Stewart is right in line with previous special teams/running backs like Keilan Robinson and Tre Wisner. Weight Room Standouts Given the Jackson post, I asked about other weight room studs. Sophomore defensive tackle Melvin Hills was mentioned. The source believes Hills will become a contributor if he sticks with the program (double entendre). Manny Muhammad was also brought up due to increased dedication. He’s always been a technique guy, but now he’s stronger—and playing like it. Sophomore linebacker Tyanthony Smith has been mentioned many times for his work ethic in the gym, and he was mentioned again recently: “Bigger, stronger, works his butt off.”
