Kieran Culkin seems like such a class act. He loves his wife and kids so much. And he was great in A Real Pain. Great win.

Any thoughts on the use of AI to enhance voices in Oscar nominations like The Brutalist and Emilia Pérez?

I personally think any use of AI to enhance an actor’s performance should be major points against them, if not an all out disqualifier. When a guy like Timothée Chalamet works his ass off to deliver an incredible and authentic performance on his own, what message would it send to give the Oscar to Adrien Brody who had his voice enhanced with AI in post-production for authenticity?

Yes the category is original song

That's so dumb, because the version with Erivo and Grande is so much better than the one on Broadway. They recorded the song for the movie, it would make sense to allow a new rendition to be eligible. Too bad, they deserve it over the rest of the nominees in that category.

I just started watching the show.  Wow, Ariana in the ruby slipper dress killed it with Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

I mean they didn’t create the song. I wouldn’t say they deserve it over people that created a song in the original category just because it’s a better song in general.

It’s a great song, fantastic version, and though I haven’t heard the other nominees, a very weak category this year.

But “Defying gravity” was written in 2003 or whatever, so it’s not original to the movie and thus ineligible.

I think everyone is super sensitive about AI in Hollywood and rightly so. In this case, this is such a minor case.

They used some AI to modulate their voices when they are reading some letters in Hungarian. Maybe 3 minutes of the movie and not when they’re on screen, just voice overs. It’s not really essential to the performance.

I’m sure there was some minor adjustments to Chalamet’s voice on the songs during post as well, just using more legacy tools as opposed to AI.

I mean, every movie has ADR to adjust dialogue in post production to fix sound issues, at the very least. I don’t think it should disqualify the overall performance.

Yep. As long as that garbage bitch Gascon doesn’t win shit from that movie.

She won't.  Demi will get a "lifetime achievement" Oscar even though she was only on screen for half the movie and the make-up did all the heavy lifting.

Mikey deserves the Oscar but she won't get it.

Almost caught up.  Anora seems to be on a roll...maybe Mikey can still pull it out.

I know Soldana was annointed a long time ago and I haven't seen Emilia Perez but I thought Barbaro was great in Complete Unknown.

Did you even watch the movie, bro?  There's no pulling out

One of my college roommates' favorite movies was Center Stage, and damn, has Zoe come far from that.

That was a pretty restrained (and well done) appeal.

No shock that No Other Land doesn’t have an US distributor and can’t be seen here.

No wonder it took so long to extinguish if they only had 14 people fighting it.

It's showing in some theatres in the States, but there is no streaming access to it if you live in the US. You can access it on some [obscure] streaming sites if you use a VPN. Ridiculous, but it is what it is.

You should fuck off.  It can be at the Drafthouse on South Lamar in Austin, for one.

@Hank_Hill I was agreeing with your post yet I get a neg. Ok

NY Times said it didn’t have a US distributor. I took their word for it
