Still not sure why more folks aren't raving about this. I thought it was kind of epic.  And cat was badass.

I think because they see them more as cartoons than animated films.

Having now seen Flow, The Wild Robot, and Inside Out 2 - I would put Flow 1, Wild Robot 1A. They are both great films, I think Flow gets my nod because of how they did it with such a lower budget and their animation is amazing. I've just been watching your GIF for like 5 minutes and amazed at their production quality.

That and the very simple soundtrack.  I've seen the thing a couple of times now.  I made a joke about it on another thread but some of the scenes with the cat just traveling in the boat were just straight out of Apocalypse Now.  The movie seemed to be dealing with some very serious shit -- the bird and cat at the top of the mountain, etc.  I was frankly surprised that I didn't find a bunch of tomes about the meaning of the movie on the google.

w/o getting too CR with recent news, having international films like Flow really emphasizes the importance for art to have no geographical boundaries. I understand that there are economic considerations that come into play but the world is poorer in a different way when we cannot 'see' the brilliance of an artist's creation.

A few weeks ago my father in law and his wife were in town and my girls (7 and 4) wanted to have a movie night. After some negotiation we landed on Flow as something everyone may be able to tolerate.

So some back story, FIL is pretty deaf and English isn’t his first language. Following movies can be tough for him and he usually kind of just checks out and looks at his phone. His wife is much younger and kind of dumb with the attention span of a kid. My actual kids also have attention spans of a kid.

The entire crew was totally locked in, from the 75 year to the 4 year old. To have storytelling be that clear and engaging without a single line of dialogue is so cool to me, it’s literally movie magic.
