Your 4 is my 1, so you're getting super sloppy fourths

Goddammit I haven’t wished death on very many motherfuckers not named Barry Switzer but that bulb nosed mouth breathing motherfucker is rising up the list

RT this year is 0-1 against Barnes and 0-1 against Beard. Thank goodness Shaka isn't on our regular season schedule.

Very winnable game that went about as feared. For a team that "can't rebound," Ole Miss regularly worked us in the paint and took advantage of our inability to go to the hole. More physical than us by far. Really could have used Weaver's grit and energy tonight.

The tall guard for them got way too many easy looks down the stretch.  We tried to put Johnson on him most of the time but it wasn't gonna cut it.  Johnson is too green defensively

We still had this.

College road games are always like this.  Look at the FT discrepancy from last Saturday.

On to the next one

Let me be pissy.

Beard seems a lot more chill than he was at Texas.

He’s been that way from the beginning at Ole Miss. You don’t see him chewing ass like in his Tech or Texas days. Looks like he has dropped a good amount of weight too.

I’m sure his PR team has been hard at work.

I can’t believe Ole Miss didn’t foul up 3. The basketball Gods needed to make them pay.

Pope was awful.  he had a decent run but I think he is reverting back to his mean.

9 for 30 from Tre and Pope combined for 30%  shooting.  If they just combine for 36% we win.

If Kent misses the team's flight we win.

The talent disparity was crazy. We win by 16 with even a decent coach.

if RT made his players take good shots we’d be a markedly better team. our offensive possessions are maddening to watch, so often ending up with some sort of off-the-dribble, turn around, fade away jumper. not so much as a word to dissuade our guys from taking these shots, never mind actual accountability for playing smart basketball. i will always love and appreciate RT but this guy is screwing the pooch in a very major way that cannot be ignored or excused.

If we make the tournament, he's back, no?

Could a better coach do more with this group? Kent is a piece we just can’t seem to unlock. Is he not good enough to expect more out of him? I think he could be more productive if this staff knew how to use him. The ball movement is stagnant there are a few guys that could be slashing to the bucket but just stand around waiting for Tre. Early in the game one guy was wide open ahead of everyone we don’t pass it to him but then pass it after he is smothered resulting in a poor shot and a turn over.

Can someone at least ask Beard postgame about when he said Devin Askew had a chance to be an all-time great at Texas

i tend to think so. as always in CBB the pool of viable candidates for a job like this is generally very small. we’re not going to fire RT unless we know we will replace him with a barnes/beard level coach. if he keeps making the tourney and winning games, there’s really not a lot of pressure to fire him. almost none outside of this very forum lol. so yeah, he probably retains his job if we make the tourney, barring a terrible finish to both the regular and postseason.

Beard has a PR guy like Bobby Knight had a PR guy.

Did his PR team make him get rid of Psycho Bitch?

We don't have two guards who can score against good teams like the white kid and Brakewhatever.  Pope can light it up against cupcakes but looks like a jag against good teams.  Larry is a non factor on offense.  You have Kaluma, Mark, and Johnson but nothing much at the point.  Shedrick is a hard scrapping jag.  Our talent is average for the SEC.

I’m sure the committee will fix that with a second round #10 Texas vs #2 Marquette matchup

We win that game with a healthy Chendall Weaver to shake things up/piss off the opponents.

You jest but they’ll do it because they love a good story

Either that or we are going to face Baylor or Tech in the tournament.

Yeah, no sarcasm at all in my post.

Idk if lunardi is putting out mock brackets yet but if he were to do one for this week, I fully expect it would have exactly that.

edit: eh. He has ou as the 10 next to Marquette. We’re in a play in for a 12 seed (as of yesterday morning).

feels like that should be reversed

i would pay an amount of money that my accountant calls “irresponsible” to see a 10 seed Texas beat a 2 seed marquette.

It’d be nice if Pope woke up one of these games

It would be nice if we had a better offense that would consistently get our guys good shots instead of tough ones all the time.

Larry is just as bad. Can’t shoot or finish so his drives to the basket don’t get to the rim and don’t create open looks. They just let him go.

Would have been a great W to get on the road. We had plenty of good looks and chances to win. Better take care of business against LSU on Saturday

Rodney needed this one.

I don't think he really needed it.  It was chalked up as a loss. It would have been a nice win but what he really needs are the next 2.  lose one of those and it can start to look dicey.

Any idea when we can expect him back. Feel like we’re really missing his leadership, defense, rebounding and no nonsense energy.

Hell in that case none of them look good in this inconsistent offense and I don't like to talk about the players.  We have guys that can just make tough shots.  We have no offense to get the shooters easy shots which has been consistently said. I prefer not to single out individual players, as it’s “clear”where the issues lies and its not with the players.  Some of these players just look different since coming to Texas and I wonder why.  Someone mentioned prior that “it feels reminiscent of last year, though with a different set of players.” What remains to be the common denominator?

Agree.

I was wrong to single out Larry, it is not his fault he is not put in a position to succeed.

Could a better coach do more with this group, would love to know (good question). Kent was a very productive in the coaches offense last year.  The difference is it was a moving and cutting offense. Pope, Larry and Mark very productive in the previous coach offense. Coming to Texas, what the hell.  I’m going to leave that right there because I think we all really know where the problem lies.

I don't know any of the guys personally but I do know they are all playing in this inconsistent offense.  All of the guys has to be put in a position to succeed.  I would like to see our offense allowing the guys to get better shots like Tre, Arthur, Mark and Pope, hell all of them.  I hate some have to take so many tough shots.

We play a hero ball offense, not unlike most other college teams. With these kinds of offenses, it's hard to be a top tier team consistently. You go as far as your top talents take you on a good shooting day. Unfortunately, there aren't too many young and elite coaches out there that would leave their current position to come here where basketball may not be a priority, so I think RT gets another year as long as we make it to the dance.

when Nate Oates was asked last year about his dominant offense, his reply was simple: “the best shots in basketball are, in order: a catch-and-shoot three, a dunk or a layup, and a free throw; that’s all we do.”

it really is that simple, philosophically speaking anyway. those of you who were here when beard was here will remember me often making this comment during game threads: “practice reps”. a guy would get a great look and sink it and i’d simply post “practice reps”.

our guys got so many great looks under beard that were straight up practice reps. the team runs a cohesive set and it ends with a guy taking not just a good shot, but a shot that he has practiced countless times already. a guy comes off a curl, gets a dribble handoff, squares up, and splashes a jumper from the elbow because it’s ingrained in his muscle memory. we did that under beard. didn’t see it for many years prior, haven’t seen it since.if we did that with this team we could be a 4 seed. sigh.

Pope does it to himself. He's crazy talented and can heat-up at times but he isn't a very high IQ player offensively. Way too much dribbling the air out of the ball bullshit and untimely isos where the ball doesn't move more than once the entire possession.

The Tre and Kaluma isos are frankly not bad college basketball offense. Both of those guys are that good - although Tre's decision making is obviously still raw. It's the shit around it that needs to be cleaned up. The Kent dunk miss followed by the frustration foul was horrendous. I was glad that RT immediately put his ass back on the pine - but those are the types of plays that lose this team games.

The Tre iso attempt where he got his pocket picked was really bad but it's the shit that this team has to live with. You take the good with the bad with someone that talented.

Ole Miss was at home desperate for a win and you could make the argument they should have lost. This Texas team doesn't suck - but they are playing with some very thin margins and need to take care of business down the stretch. Especially at home.

*** Also on Pope - his AST/TO is actually better with Texas vs. last season and his shooting #s are the same. And he isn't playing in a dogshit conference. So saying he was more productive last season isn't really true.

I think the answer is a resounding yes.  RT needs to go and take Haith with him.

I personally think Haith is the main problem and our fortunes would be much improved with an Associate HC with a better offensive mind

But RT ain’t replacing Haith so their fates are tied together here
