Probably been posted but here was an interesting (and sad and typical) couple of grafs from Heather Cox Richardson’s piece from yesterday:

Look, all I want is to bring manufacturing jobs back so that American robots can earn a middle class wage and support their American robot families. Is that so controversial?

On Facebook several years ago, I had a lot of back home type friends who were always going on about "everyone gets a trophy" and how it's making today's kids and our country soft. They didn't seem to remember that in the leagues we played in as youths in the 80s everyone got a fucking trophy, the same god damn trophy whether they were on the championship team or last place. Same whether they were the best player in the league or the worst. Yet somehow in 2018, they were a bunch of old school hard asses who never ever got a participation trophy.

Yep. I'm smack dab in the middle of Gen X and we got a trophy in all team sports at the end of the year no matter what. It was like that from the time I started playing t-ball until I started playing sports in school. If it was an organized league, we got a trophy. The champions got championship trophies, but everyone got a trophy of some sort.

It's funny, my soccer trophy from when I was 8 is actually sitting on the dresser behind me right now. I found it in a random old box of shit when we moved and cracked up.

these people actually think like 6 months from now companies like nike are just gonna have manufacturing plants fully staffed, operational and churning out the same product at the same price and we’re just going to go back to normal, i feel like im losing my mind

Let's not forget all the materials and machines are gonna be taxed to hell even if they do try to get ops going on US soil.  And I'm sure Jethro can't wait to apply for that sweatshop gig.  It's so fucking stupid - you literally can't make it up.  I could not, for the life of me, have come up with something this catastrophic...

My brother is 2 years younger than me.  But my first place 1991 trophy is half the size of his participation 1991 trophy for youth soccer.  At least now I think we know where all this started...

We’re now fully in the phase where the autocrat actually enjoys doing things that are patently stupid and harmful, because that is the ultimate display of raw power: buttfuck the people in full view, as a “and wadda ya gonna do about it?” display of power.
All he cares about is showing that he’s the most powerful man on earth, and cruel and arbitrary displays of power are a simple way to do that.
It’s going to get much, much worse. I’m talking about something like “at war with a NATO nation” worse. There are no limits here, and all guardrails are gone.
Our only way out is blood. Lots of it. Here.

So about the 3rd term thing… it’s clear no one in the GOP is going to stop Trump from trying to win the 2028 Republican nomination, which I expect him to win if he does.  So what then? Are the states going to have to independently keep him off the ballots claiming unconstitutionality or do the Dems have to sue and get the Supreme Court to decide? I gotta tell you, it could get real ugly.

Ok, let’s play along.

Some country under tariffs decides to try to game the system by claiming a false country of origin. Are they contending that they would have been tricked if they were told “Yes sir Mr. Customs Officer these industrial widgets were built in Heard and McDonald Island! No tariffs for me.”

And instead they would be charged 10% to make up for all the penguins that have been screwing over American workers?

russia going to cash in skimming off this

trump going up double china's tariffs !!!!!

China is gonna get a 500% tariff after this impression. 🤣

On Monday my sister starts her job as a lawyer with CBP.

Oh, and she interned for Al Gore and hasn’t once voted R.

They hired her without an interview.

Why the fuck would she volunteer to defend the heinous shit  conducted by Trump's immigration goons? I realize CBP aint ICE, and the function is necessary, but you know they are gonna ask her to shit on good people.

I was watching Thirteen Days a few weeks back.  JFK had his faults but his handling of that incident wasn't one of them.  I shudder to think about a scenario like that with this crew in charge.

Holy fucking shit. We live in the dumbest country, with the dumbest leaders, in the dumbest era.

WATCH: “Ron Vara is an anagram of Navarro.” @maddow.msnbc.com explains how Trump’s tariffs policy came from his economic advisor Peter Navarro, who invented a fake expert in his books to justify it🤦🏻‍♂️ 🤦🏼 And now markets are crashing 🎪 #TrumpTradeWar #AmericanBrexit

Two possible reasons.

1.) It's not said anymore

2.) Your opinions used to suck

If Russia gets caught moving nukes into Cuba, Trump would simply text Putin, “why the secret,” and then offer up CSG-12 as an escort. Everyone would go a little nuts for a day or so, then he’d do something dumber, and most would forget all about it.

Wouldn’t you just say no to countries who try to use it given there are no buildings in the country? Wouldn’t you actually be incentivizing countries who somehow figured that out by reducing their tariffs if they have over 10%. Hopefully these were questions that were quickly asked?

They probably weren’t asked and it makes these guys seem like they are playing 4D chess, which is why they originally added the country. We have idiots running media and the country right now.

Surly business idea.

Buy a barge. Park it within the waters. Declare independence from Australia and declare a free trade zone.

yeah, any "sanction" busting would piss off the aussies. This is not Isle of Mann or Turks, which I am sure this dude has investments parked in.

I think she is courageous, especially if she can prevent chicanery.

Every time one of the MAGA idiots makes this argument about American vehicles, it reminds me that these morons have never visited a foreign country. American auto manufacturers excel at making full size pickup trucks. Like they’re really, really good at it. And yet, for some reason that I just can’t put a finger on, those vehicles aren’t popular on the streets of Tokyo or London.

They are really good at making full size trucks because of the American tariffs on full size trucks that have been in existence since LBJ. It’s allowed them to be profitable in a single segment instead of trying to compete in other areas.
