I had a lot of fun in Pittsburgh during my 20s. Never felt so comfortable having a 7am beer 3-4x a week

Well, if any company has product margins that can handle a 25-50% tariff without raising prices, it’s Apple.

Which is better?  Cold Turkey or Hot Chicken?  (Personally I love a good hot chicken sandwich).

So America was on the verge of collapse until Dotard stepped in and saved it with his tariffs. Then China was on the verge of collapse before Dotard stepped in and saved them by reducing the tariffs.

And people call him a conman.

I love a cold turkey drumstick on Thanksgiving evening after many beers and several hours of football.

Should we not pay attention to this matter? He usually lets us know. I don't know what to do with my attentions. Fuck.

Steel tariffs doubled to 50% starting June 4; and now that Trump knows about TACO this one is going to stick (at least for a little while)

I'm guessing he thinks because Nippon and USS are partnering or whatever, we can just ramp up the ol' steel production in a month or two and be just fine.

Saw a train on mopac this evening. LONG train, headed up from Mexico, full of car parts/chassis. Figure they let things stack up, then when the tariffs got relaxed, sent em all up.

If foreign steel will cost another 25% tariff, US Steel can just raise their prices. They have zero incentive to actually produce more steel especially since they will know that tariff could be eliminated at any moment and may potentially never occur.

They most likely will have a press conference stating that they have a plan to increase production and hire more, but they won't follow through.

I mean, COULD.  Build greenhouses, heat them, etc.  They aren’t technically wrong.

Take it to the Panamanian banana crisis thread.

https://www.china-briefing.com/news/us-china-tariff-rates-2025/

This links to a pretty good article that sets out the current tariff situation on the various goods from and to China.

I would be surprised if China didn’t walk away at some point, just to make a point and put pressure on TACO. Trump will start to sweat and crawfish, which could lead to China removing all tariffs on a large number of products that it never has - and never will - import.   That way, the orange shit gibbon can declare a yuuge victory (while lowering the tariffs on the things we actually trade, essentially capitulating to China).

#2692

Trump is declaring victory because there’s only going to be a 55% tariff on Chinese goods.

Is that a reason to be happy?

Because that does not sound to me like a reason to be happy.   That sounds like the G.I. Joe with the kung fu grip will cost 55% more. Sad. Bigly Sad.

Admin announces 55% tariff likely to stay in place, market doesn't move.  TACO trade is still in effect.  Nobody gives a shit what Trump, Bessent, Nutlick, et al say about tariffs.

#2694

This is probably related to the fact that the Federal Circuit stayed the ruling of the Court of International Trade pending appeal.

However they set a schedule to have it argued July 31 and heard en banc to begin with.

If people think the tariffs are going to hurt the economy, wait until we deport a workforce that is irreplaceable.  Good times indeed.

I had to explain to Reuters today that fucking up the meat packing labor force is negative for the cattleman and the consumer today. Feels like that should be pretty obvious with having to call various commodity brokers.
