October 11Oct 11 President Trump's announcement of potential 100% tariffs starting on China on Nov 1 will get all the attention, but export controls on "any and all critical software" could be extremely far-reaching, depending on how "critical software" is defined. Broadly scoped, this could capture any U.S. software or product containing U.S. software - which would disrupt most tech flows to China. It also could be scoped to block Chinese access to U.S. cloud computing services, as well as U.S. AI models. That would be extremely painful for Beijing. Narrowly scoped, this could just restrict U.S. chip-design software (which the U.S. controlled in May in response to the original Chinese rare earth controls, but subsequently issued licenses for). That would be far narrower than the scope of the controls that China announced. Bottom-line: There is significant ambiguity regarding what exactly President Trump is threatening here. He deserves credit for moving swiftly to push back on China's actions. But precise and credible threats are necessary to deter China from implementing their controls - and for this threat to be effective, additional clarity is likely necessary. Truth Details | Truth Social It has just been learned that China has taken an extraordinarily aggressive position on Trade in sending an extremely hostile letter to the World, stating that they were going to, effective November 1st, 2025, impose large scale Export Controls on virtually every product they make, and some not even made by them. This affects ALL Countries, without exception, and was obviously a plan devised by them years ago. It is absolutely unheard of in International Trade, and a moral disgrace in dealing with other Nations. Based on the fact that China has taken this unprecedented position, and speaking only for the U.S.A., and not other Nations who were similarly threatened, starting November 1st, 2025 (or sooner, depending on any further actions or changes taken by China), the United States of America will impose a Tariff of 100% on China, over and above any Tariff that they are currently paying. Also on November 1st, we will impose Export Controls on any and all critical software. It is impossible to believe that China would have taken such an action, but they have, and the rest is History. Thank you for your attention to this matter! DONALD J. TRUMP PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
October 11Oct 11 Bro - this is not a misprint "In the first seven months of 2025, Chinese grid-scale lithium-ion batteries accounted for about 65% of US imports, according to the most recent data available from BNEF. The export curbs would affect these types of batteries, analysts said. Battery storage is critical for the US as energy demand surges, driven by the artificial intelligence boom. US data centers more than doubled their electricity consumption from 2017 to 2023, according to a report by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. That figure is expected to as much as triple by 2028, the report notes." https://archive.ph/TL07i Edited October 11Oct 11 by Chopper

October 20Oct 20 National Cattleman’s Beef Association is not thrilled. https://www.ncba.org/news-media/news/details/44430/argentinian-beef-import-plan-harms-us-cattle-producers Today, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) responded to comments from President Donald J. Trump that suggested importing Argentinian beef as a solution to lower beef prices. NCBA’s family farmers and ranchers are concerned that rewarding Argentina with this expanded access to the U.S. market harms American cattlemen and women, while also interfering with the free market. “NCBA’s family farmers and ranchers have numerous concerns with importing more Argentinian beef to lower prices for consumers. This plan only creates chaos at a critical time of the year for American cattle producers, while doing nothing to lower grocery store prices,” said NCBA CEO Colin Woodall. “Additionally, Argentina has a deeply unbalanced trade relationship with the U.S. In the past five years Argentina has sold more than $801 million of beef into the U.S. market. By comparison, the U.S. has sold just over $7 million worth of American beef to Argentina. Argentina also has a history of foot-and-mouth disease, which if brought to the United States, could decimate our domestic livestock production.” Although beef prices have increased, consumer demand for beef remains strong because of the work American cattle producers have done to improve the quality and safety of U.S. beef. We call on President Trump and members of Congress to let the market work, rather than intervening in ways that do nothing but harm rural America.

Farm Bureau Urges Restraint on Beef Imports | News Release | American Farm Bureau Federation Quote American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall commented today on President Trump’s plans to reduce beef prices through increased beef imports from Argentina. “We know America's families face challenges when food prices rise, but it's important for President Trump to remember that farmers are facing an economic storm as well, and a vibrant U.S. cattle herd is at stake. Many of America’s beef farmers have operated in the red for several years. Adverse weather and low prices drove cattle herds down to levels not seen in decades. Weakened cattle prices are the last thing needed in farm country, where farmers are being paid historically low prices for crops across the board while expenses remain high. “We urge the administration to carefully consider the damage importing more beef and cattle from other countries will have as cattle farmers decide whether to invest in rebuilding America's herds. Just the mention of beef imports created more instability and uncertainty for America’s farmers. Flooding markets with foreign-grown beef could affect our nation’s ability to be food independent in the long-term. We look forward to learning more about the president’s plan, and we stand ready to work with him to ensure farmers and ranchers can survive this economic storm.” That can be read quite a few ways, but it's pretty clear that they and the Cattlemans' association are not happy with this. These press releases were rushed out within a few days of the news hitting the wire. Trump's not a farmer and has absolutely no clue how many family farms are limping along, and being covered by "regular" jobs that one or both spouses have outside of the farm.

Y'all already know about the latter two, but cotton has also taken a hit. About two-thirds of our cotton goes to China, and they've cut back, dropping cotton futures down to a five-year low. And, of course, all the cost of inputs for growing the crop (fertilizer, machinery, labor) are going up. Another major blow is the hit to renewable energy (both wind and solar). The only policies and people worth supporting are those that deliver on "hurt the other guy." What they are all too fucking dumb to realize is that a political and social framework built on the principle of "hurt someone" ALWAYS creates massive collateral damage, first accidentally and then intentionally. October 24Oct 24 Trump Says He’s Cutting Off Trade Negotiations With Canada - The New York Times President Trump said late Thursday that he was terminating all trade negotiations with Canada, throwing America’s relationship with one of its closest trading partners into turmoil once again. On Truth Social, the president claimed that “Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement” featuring former president Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about tariffs. “TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A.,” Mr. Trump wrote. “Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED.” Mr. Trump has taken an aggressive stance toward Canada, which is the second largest trading partner for the United States. He has imposed double-digit tariffs on many Canadian exports and repeatedly suggested Canada should be the 51st U.S. state. The United States, Canada and Mexico have been preparing for a review of their shared free trade agreement, which is scheduled to be completed by next summer. The ad that Mr. Trump mentioned in his post was taken out by the government of Ontario, Canada’s most populous province and a key nexus of economic cooperation with the United States. The ad, which according to the government of Ontario cost 75 million Canadian dollars ($53.5 million), uses audio from 1987 from President Ronald Reagan denouncing tariffs as destructive for the economy. The ad was to begin airing in the United States this week on Newsmax and Bloomberg, the Ontario government said, and then on several other U.S. channels over the course of the following two weeks. “When someone says, ‘Let’s impose tariffs on foreign imports,’ it looks like they’re doing the patriotic thing by protecting American products,” Mr. Reagan’s voice narrates over a video of generic images of economic activity. But, the audio warns, tariffs cause damage. “Markets shrink and collapse, industries shut down and millions of people lose their jobs.”
October 24Oct 24 34 minutes ago, fuggled said: For those who may not have seen the ad from Ontario I do love how we live in a timeline where playing the exact actual words said by someone is "fake." The fucking insanity of this fucking timeline has to make some people just go off eventually, right?
