An NBA player is the most marketable athlete in all of American professional sports. They are naturally going to want to be with the most marketable franchise. You've got to deliver on the court to reach those heights, but a star for the Lakers is going to earn more than a star for Orlando.

He just did what was best for his brand at the time.

February 11Feb 11 Been to some Lakers games at the Staples Center. They're not my favorite team but I'm a fan. My best ever seats were three first-row, lower bowl courtside freebies when Tracy McGrady, Mutumbo and Yao Ming came to play against Kobe. Being so close was like being at the HEB center, sitting right behind the card tables. Jack was on the opposite side. If you're paying, then always pay to be on Jack's side of the arena!

That's badass. I went to one laker game there, got to hang in a suite, it was pretty dope. Lakers were just the Kobe show at this point, changed his number to 24 that year.

February 23Feb 23 I grew up in NOLA and was a New Orleans Jazz and Pete Maravich fan. Then the pussy asshole mormon Sam Battistone of Sambo's Restaurants moved the Jazz to Utah because he was offended by tits and booze. I became a Laker fan with Magic. It's now 45 years later. That's insane. I loved AD but for whatever reason, the Lakers couldn't compete with top Western Conference teams. I feel bad for Mavs fans that Cuban sold them out to that Vegas bitch and here we are. But damn, Rob Pelinka is a badass GM. I was worried how the trade would impact Austin Reaves, but they all showed out tonight. I also hated to see Knecht go, so I'm glad he's back. He was a steal in the draft last year. Maybe having remorse over moving Knecht was why they nixed the trade. The floor spacing is off the charts now. Edited February 23Feb 23 by NWAustinDude
February 23Feb 23 Damnyourefuckingold But the Jazz being in Utah instead of NOLA is one of the great travesties of modern history. Even with some of the greatest NBA teams actually having come out of Utah/Jazz.
February 23Feb 23 Utah needs to sell the name back to New Orleans, so that NOLA can get rid of it's scary AF mascot.

I still have the Magic jersey I got back in 1988. He made me love the sport by how he orchestrated things and the joy he played with. I was also glad to see Knecht back. The biggest puzzle piece is getting a serviceable starting center in the off-season that Luka will feel good throwing lobs to. He can do that with Hayes, but Hayes is not my idea of a starting center and probably no one else would think that either. Still this is a fun time to watch The Lakeshow. I’d love to stick to the JV team in the playoffs because of Ballmer running his mouth nonstop with nothing to show for it aside from a pretty cool arena it seems.

February 25Feb 25 I can't believe I've never seen that movie. The opening was great. What's crazy is that much of it was meant to be "over the top" but was in fact, a reality in todays world.
February 25Feb 25 Author Saw a clip of Luka clowning around in practice. Maybe he’s ok now. Seems like LeBron and JJ are happy to let Luka dominate the ball now. Edited February 25Feb 25 by Im_smarter_then_you
February 26Feb 26 This team is so fun to watch between LeBron, Luka, and AR. Luka going to get a triple-double by halftime. Edited February 26Feb 26 by MuellerHorn

The Worthy pick also belongs on the list for ridiculously lopsided trades. Ted Stepien might be the worst owner not named Donald Sterling in NBA history.

Franchise needs to be banished lol nobodies arguing the NBA isn’t rigged like pro wrestling. You forgot about the Cavs, who were rewarded for moving Bron to Miami by 3 picks #1 overall. A near impossibility statistically. The Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Draft Lottery and secured the No. 1 overall pick in three out of four years after LeBron James left for Miami in 2010. Those years were: • 2011 (Kyrie Irving) • 2013 (Anthony Bennett) • 2014 (Andrew Wiggins) To calculate the probability of this happening, we need to know their lottery odds each year. Here’s a breakdown: 1. 2011 Lottery Odds: The Cavs had two lottery picks (one via a trade with the Clippers). The pick from the Clippers had a 2.8% chance of winning, and that’s the pick that won. 2. 2013 Lottery Odds: The Cavs had a 15.6% chance of winning. 3. 2014 Lottery Odds: The Cavs had a 1.7% chance of winning. Assuming independence between the lotteries, the probability of winning all three is: 0.00741%, which is about 1 in 13,500—an incredibly rare event!

February 27Feb 27 Haters can hate the coups that Jerry West and Mitch Kupchak pulled off as GM's. But let's not forget 13 years ago the New Orleans Hornets failing at business, David Stern appointing himself defacto owner/GM, and then nixing the in-his-prime Chris Paul trade to play with Kobe.

LeBron has been playing with amazing energy, I hope they conserve him and Luka and just keep developing how they play as a team without wearing them down or getting them injured. Healthy I think they gotta chance. They've got 3 guys that can hit spot up threes, Reaves, Finny-Smith, and Hachimura. Maybe Kleber too. These guys have length and can defend too, they've actually got some smart coaching defensively. They are about to play a stretch of playoff teams so I guess we'll see.

The glaring hole at center is a really, really big issue. Next year my expectations will be higher. This year what happens is fine. If they make a deep run in the postseason that’s awesome. If they don’t that’s okay because we have the best young player in the league on our team now.
February 28Feb 28 Just a ridiculous shot that only a select few human beings on this planet can make look routine.
March 1Mar 1 James' scoring average is going up this year, thanks to Luka getting so much attention. I don't think James will hand over the reigns [internally] this year.
March 1Mar 1 Was that a good game tonight on his 26th birthday against the JV? Also it warms my heart to see “Not Big Game” James put up a 5-22 and 1-10 from deep. Could not happen to a better person and franchise.

He finally has the ability to play off-ball and just do fun things that you can’t do when you have to be the primary ball handler. He can do this for as long as he is healthy and wants to do it with Doncic running the show.
