For F1 I used to always come in from the south on a back road and park in a private lot Parking is free for this weekend in lots F, N, and T (courtesy of SMI/TMS running this race rather than COTA running it).
March 1Mar 1 Author I thought about going up tomorrow from Houston and making it a one day trip, but I don't want my first Nascar in person race to be a road course because I don't care for road courses lol....plus i want to take in full weekend experience (aka take a cooler and get wasted) Some buddies and me have been talking about making a trip somewhere, but next year at the earliest probably.

I like all kinds of tracks, but yeah, your first NASCAR experience should beon a big oval.

For F1 I used to always come in from the south on a back road and park in a private lot plenty of free parking, just adjust which direction you are coming in from based on where you are sitting. my group will be in turn 1 so we will come in from the east but we don't even really have to do that. if you are coming in on 130 then 2 hours before race start is plenty of time. come earlier if you want to see more prerace activity or walk around to the merchandise trailers and booths. Nascar is not nearly the parking clusterfuck that F1 is.

I thought it was much better with the shorter layout today, although it was a hot sumbitch in the bleachers in turn 12. coming out of the shortcut into the stadium section was plenty of action

I would say Talladega, but it may ruin all your future Nascar experiences at other places because Talladega is fucking insane for the partying there.
March 2Mar 2 Parking sounds good then I have enough cota experience to be able to handle then. We are also in t 12 but I like to move around. Looked pretty empty on tv today but I’m sure there will be more people tmr. Plan on getting there around noon. Need to remember sunscreen

There were hundreds of people there ... 27 minutes ago, Bill Brasky said: I thought it was much better with the shorter layout today, although it was a hot sumbitch in the bleachers in turn 12. coming out of the shortcut into the stadium section was plenty of action It wasn't bad. The racing was good. Would probably be better with some semblance of track limits. Weird choice to use that cut-through though. It's designed to go the opposite direction, in use with the back portion of the track.
March 2Mar 2 Oh, and @Updawg & anyone else in T12, beware the sun there. Bring your sunscreen. The biggest problem there is that in the afternoon the sun reflects off of the aluminum bleachers and right up into your face. It's a bit of a beating, esp if you aren't ready for it.

Bring your walking shoes as well, especially if you park along the backstretch. They make you walk all the way to the soccer stadium to get in the gates, then you walk back a half mile in the direction you just came from to get to turn 12. Frustrating as fuck with my shitty knees. It was hot as fuck today. First really warm day of the year after coming out of a cold spell a week ago.

Yeah I've never been able to fathom why there's no entrance at T12. IIRC there are even gates there, so all they'd have to do is staff the gate with temporary personnel. Oh, wait. There it is. It would cost a few dollars, so fuck the fans.

Talladega is a great party atmosphere. But for the racing experience Bristol is the best. Pro Tip for overnighting. Pack your stuff and rent an RV about 50 miles out from the track. You'll save money on fuel and time going to the track and on the way home. We were slow learners; it took us about 4 races before we figured that out. We thought we were doing the right thing at first because we had our own RV. Bless our hearts. One more thing, stay away from the boiled peanuts. Edited March 3Mar 3 by Bevo&Pevo
March 2Mar 2 I will never not say that these guys doing the pre-race shows for NASCAR look stupid wearing suits. Just wear some nice logo-polo shirts and be comfortable.
March 2Mar 2 Oh wow. Just saw a good shot of the main gs during that pitstop. That gs is maybe 10-20% occupado. 15 isn't much better, if any.
March 2Mar 2 Author "Hey I'm at a Nascar race wearing douchey sunglasses....let's go with the Horns Down!"Dumbass
March 2Mar 2 LOL I missed that. I just laugh when I see that shit. Rent free! It's good to be the King.
March 3Mar 3 "Hey I'm at a Nascar race wearing douchey sunglasses....let's go with the Horns Down!"DumbassHa I think I know what you are talking about. I missed but everyone around us started making fun of Aggies and ragging on him
March 3Mar 3 Was pretty fun out there for my first time at nascar. Parking was easy and it wasn’t crazy crowded. Watched the first stage on the main straight and also had a good view of t1. Then we went to t12 and left with about 20 laps to go. I didn’t want to deal with traffic. Nice breeze so it wasn’t hot

If you aren't interested in camping at the track, my brother and I have been using this outfit to attend the championship races for the past 10 years and couldn't be more pleased with them. They handle the hotel, tickets, tour busses (with a police escort) to and from the track, scanners, etc. We've only been to Miami and Phoenix, so I can't comment on the experience in smaller venues, but I wouldn't hesitate to use them elsewhere. https://onlocationexp.com/nascar
March 9Mar 9 Author I mean i guess. I just hate every race ends up being a contrived action overtime finish. I mean i get it makes it more exciting, but Algaier should have won yesterday. He had a big lead there and then dingleberry wrecks to catch everyone up.
March 14Mar 14 I think the racing has been very good so far this year. Love what they did with the tires last weekend. Finishes have been spectacular.

March 25Mar 25 Author Fox broadcast kinds sucks to me. I like Larry Mac but Harvick/Bowyer trying to diss each other constantly and then talking over each other....then add Joy getting old and screwing up information....just not a huge fan CW had been killing and most people seem to like Leigh Diffey when NBC comes around.

Harvick is an asshole and Bowyer is a soft-brained country boy, so neither of their knob-slobbering surprised or even bothered me, but I somehow expected more out of Joy. I hated Harvick as a driver and overall personality, but I think he's an excellent announcer (at least when he isn't stooping to participate in Bowyer's folksy shenanigans). Bowyer isn't without the occasional worthwhile observation, but you have to wade through a lot of chaff to find just a little wheat. Agreed that Larry Mac is a treasure.
April 15Apr 15 Author So I have watched every race since about 2021 now and that Bristol race may have been the most boring piece of crap I have seen in that time frame.

Yeah, you know the sport is in a bad place when even Bristol sucks. I didn't watch any of the races live during March Madness (and conference tournaments) so I have been slowly making my way through Martinsville when I eat my lunch home alone. Really glad that the producers chose to deliberately showcase these two characters/creatures. Not a word of acknowledgement from the booth, either.
April 28Apr 28 Author Pretty boring race for Talladega standards. Everyone played nice and no "big one" Hocevar should have run over Chastain lol

April 28Apr 28 Never posted in this thread until now. Never been to a race at TMS or NASCAR event ever. That changes this weekend. Have some buddies coming up from ATX on Sunday and we are going to go. They are going to pick me up somewhere off of 35W and we will carpool in from there. I live a good ways off of 35 so we are looking at ideal parking where we can meet up and head to the track. Ojos Locos was floated as a possible spot. I’m not too sure about that. Does anyone have experience with a situation like this and know of an establishment where paid parking is available for the race?

When the green flag drops and the entire field goes by it is like a sound you have never heard. It will rattle your chest. The sites and sounds pre-race are amazing too. You will notice how bright and colorful the paint schemes on the cars are. Much more vivid in person. I have not been in about ten years and am mulling over going this weekend. In the past we would get to the track no later than 6:30 AM and park in the main parking lot. They did not even charge for parking back then. It is a great people watching event because you will see all walks of American lives and the talent is spectacular.
April 29Apr 29 The hardest part to convey from TV to in person is the sound. Whether Nascar or drag racing. It's a whole body experience.
May 2May 2 The last 2 posts have me amped up about going. Apparently the tickets we got are pit passes. Don’t know what that means. I know where the pit is so I assume that gives us access. Really looking forward to it. Here’s my question though….Can you park at Bass Pro and catch a ride with some buddies coming up from ATX to the track? I’m just trying to find a place to meet up with these guys and carpool in. Preferably somewhere I won’t get towed.

May 2May 2 Amazon Prime is dropping this on May 22nd (I posted in the movie forum but some of you don't like hanging with the wine and cheese crowd). Now they need to do 'Allison'
