once you see it that's it.  the video plays on for a bit longer though.

if only there was a place to walk  that was not in the middle of the road.  something maybe to the side of the street.  some sort of walk on the side.  Alas...

She was getting in the car.

And not watching her 6.  Wasn’t her fault she almost died, but her time almost came anyway.  Death doesn’t care whose fault it was.

Negative.  She walked past the doors prior to impact.

as I've gotten older I have lost all trust for anyone behind the wheel of a car.  my head is on a swivel whenever I'm even near a roadway.

If she was getting in her car, then she is more stupid than I thought -- not checking traffic around her, much less parking her car so it sticks out into a lane of moving traffic.

A true holy shit moment yesterday on the North Shore of Oahu. Pipeline was firing and big wave surfers were attacking it as usual. A prominent local kid and son of a Pipe legend had a terrible accident and lifeguards were on it immediately. They started CPR in the water and continued to the beach. He was transferred to a hospital and is now in the ICU. Not out of the woods yet but at least has a chance at life. Some reports say the kid was dead before being resuscitated and brought back to life.

For real -- those North Shore lifeguards are true heroes, really rare breeds who are willing to risk their lives at any moment. Anyone that's heard of Eddie Aikau ("Eddie would go") understands just how serious and well-trained those lifeguards are.

My wife was in the parking lot while all of this went down. Kid is a well-known, likable high schooler that the North Shore community loves.

Yep.  She did not even turn to look at the door or stop/slow down

Agree. Caving is nightmare fuel. Already have more than enough. Falling is flying, no real problems.

To think her thick ass can make it through those tiny spaces is some serious confidence.

This is the most horrifying death I could think of, personally.  If I can't walk upright through a cave, I'm not going in it, period.

I dont like those either.  Maybe open air MRI next time if possible.

nutty putty has been covered at length on this site.  go burn a couch somewhere.

I’ve always been a little claustrophobic, but have managed it well until the last year. Flew all over the world, every kind of airplane, no problem.
Last year I had my first debilitating claustrophobia attack on an airplane. Since then I’ve had 3 more, plus one on a ski lift over Christmas. It has gotten significantly worse and continues to worsen.
I started exposure/cognitive behavioral therapy last week so I can learn to live normally again. Apparently a lot of that is going to be putting myself in situations that trigger it. That does not sound fun, but it has to be done.
The video/discussion above is horrifying to me. But maybe in a year or so I will be able to watch it without recoiling.

I see you.  Did CBT for six sessions last year for this same issue and came out with some tools to help break the mental spiral once it starts.  Had a couple instances after therapy where I started to get that familiar feeling and those tools helped me get through it quickly and recover a calm state of mind.  Very happy with my results. Hope you have the same.

Also, super sour warheads can trick the brain out of a panic spiral by grounding your focus on the extreme sour taste.

Man, the Nutty Putty cave tragedy is nuts.  This guy's channel does some of the best analyses of cave tragedies.

Just imagine I negged you without actually doing it.

I still dont get that.  How do you cross an active runway without even looking?  Im a lowly PP and my ass looks left then right like 4 times before I cross ANY runway.

Back in my early 20s 3 of us went into the bigger cave downriver from Gorman Falls at Bend State park.  I had been before but this time we went all the way to the water table.  First room we waded into the water was waist deep.  The second room it was neck deep with the water being only a foot from the ceiling .  At that moment I realized how stupid I was and high-tailed it out of there.

At age 61, you would have to hold a gun to my daughter's head to force me to do that again.
