Frenchman Flats, Nevada - June, 1957. 
My Dad, along with several hundred US Army troops, was somewhere underneath that cloud hunkered down in an 8’ deep trench only 1,000 yards from Ground Zero. 
Afterwards when they were bused back to their Las Vegas hotel, he lost $20 at a Blackjack table.

No such luck , but like a lot of the other Army troops present at those tests he did develop pre-cancerous skin problems late in life.

I was curious about the benefit of keeping hornets around and why you wouldn't just take a flamethrower to the whole area and incinerate every last one of those motherfuckers.  but AI told me they play a key role in keeping other pests in check.  the more you know.
