I don't understand why Fat Nixon's supporters don't see him as a threat to the institutional norms that preserve, protect and defend us? Is is too hyperbolic to compare them to 1930's uncritical Germans?

Ummm....they see him as exactly that. Destruction of our institutions and norms so that authoritarians can fill the void and rule is a feature of this regime/movement, not a big.

Just heard on the news that one Republican senator is going to be at hius daughter's wedding on Saturday so won't vote if that's when the vote is taken. That leaves a margin of 1.

wow, just wow. No mention of the 1700 lawyers, but they are all just a good start anyway or however that joke goes.

I looked at the Catholic Journal website. I see no evidence they have taken an editorial stance. The article currently at the top of their page criticizes America Magazine for taking an editorial stand against Kavanaugh.

The largest organization of Christian churches is the Catholic Church. It does not have a position on Kavanaugh.

JPS is a liberal who supported Roe v. Wade. From the first link I found.

I have listened to her talk on CNN and it takes 2 second to figure out the is an unhinged lunatic. And that's not a partisan comment, just like facts aren't partisan.

So to recap: BK goes all out on his prepared statement on Thursday, basically to save his nomination from Trump pulling it. Likely coached by McGahn on what to say.  He saves  his nomination by giving a performance that Trumped loved....but went too far and fucked himself with the legal community and all those who write and follow the court.

They all are for him withdrawing his nomination but he nor the Repubs are going to listen because gotta do this BEFORE the mid-terms!

So he'll get confirmed and then every smart lawyer before the court will argue that he has to recuse himself and use his words against him....so he will be just a part time judge. Which will make him useless to decide about anything that might  do damage  to .....you guessed it, Roe v Wade. No wonder the conservative groups that have come out against him have done so....he's damaged goods. They see this. He'll be part time help after a big spending of political capital.

Damn, truly we all lose because of everyone's bullshittery. EVERYONE from the assholes who vetted him, to the orange baboon who nominated him warts and all, to all the fucking Senators who don't work together anymore in any meaningful way to protect our republic.

I was better off not paying attention to shit like I did during the Obama years. FML.

This is something I could have written myself. I would be much happier not ever posting here now just like in the West Mall or the Cloak Room like back then I never did. Why? Because it wasn’t all that important.

I long for the days when I didn’t feel compelled to post about this bullshit, when I could just occasionally post about football, Mack Brown, Charlie Strong, etc. But I can’t ignore it. Because I believe what Trump and his criminal enterprise are attempting to do is nothing short of destroying the greatest country that ever existed, which we just so happen to live in, enjoy, and be a part of. Who should stand silent in the fact of the attempted destruction of that?

So I post in this God forsaken political board chock full of idiots and trolls. The trolls and trumpkins think I’m a lib and a dem. They claim they don’t believe me when I say that I’m not. I don’t give a shit about that. I just wish we lived in a time that didn’t even matter though.

The first step in ending all this bullshit is for people who are rational to vote in November, and even though I’m not a dem, that means completely voting for the dems just as George Will advocates for. Because the alternative is a suicide course headed directly to facism, apartheid, WWIII or something just as bad.

With Republicans at 50 votes max now, Manchin might as well switch parties if he votes yes.

Murkowski is the vote to watch.

The senator wants to finish reading the FBI report before making a decision, spokesman Casey Contres said.

Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colorado, hasn’t decided how he’ll vote on Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee who has faced sexual assault allegations, Gardner’s office said late Thursday.

The senator wants to finish reading the FBI report before making a decision, spokesman Casey Contres said. Gardner said he’d vote yes on Kavanaugh’s confirmation after meeting with the judge in July. However, that was before several women accused him of sexual misconduct.

The only physical copies of the FBI’s 46-page report on the allegations, completed Thursday, are being kept in a secure room inside the Capitol. Only senators and 10 committee staffers are allowed to read it.

I think we all know the combination to the Kavanaugh vault.  Beer, and lots of it.

Which is exactly the goal. Which the GOP is happy to facilitate.

Again, in the recipe for how to kill a democratic republic, we’re now at the point where you crank the oven up to 450 to brown it.

Sounds dramatic. Situation must be quite dire.

I still don't understand why we had to go through this circus.  Trump had a fucking home run pick in Barrett.  Young, conservative, clean as a whistle, and you know the Dems can't say shit about a woman.  She breezes through the process, the SC is locked down, and Trump gets brownie points for getting another female on the Court.

Yet somehow we got sucked into this shit storm because even when you tee it up perfectly for Trump he still manages to trip over his own dick.  What is Kavanaugh going to do for Trump on the SC that Barrett wouldn't?  The whole idea that the President can pardon themselves?  Even if Kavanaugh is willing to stoop that low, there are eight other judges that won't.  The only thing that makes any sense to me is that Trump is trying to push a damaged nominee through now while he has the votes and saving Barrett in case Ginsburg croaks.

Good point. A few decades ago, my father and brother locked horns. Dad was Dem; Bro was a contrarian/libertarian.

Dad made an observation that the US political system was better than the Soviets. Contrarian Bro thinks for a second, and says that there is little difference between the two. I sit up and wonder where he's going with this.

Dad: What do you mean? In Russia you can only vote for one party.

Bro: It's the same way here.

Dad: In Russia you can only vote for the Communist Party. Here we have a choice.

Bro: No we don't. We only have one party here.

Dad: One party?

Bro: The Capitalist Party!

I was impressed. Still am.

In the USSR, the government owned the corporations.

In the USA, the corporations own the government.

He might be clean but he has gone on 60 minutes and now the OpEd piece to plead his case to get on the Supreme Court. That isn't done and it disturbs the legal community greatly. Probably because he is so blatant about his political awareness and the audience he needs to speak to. That isn't going to go away once he sits on the court. We know what is under his robes now. That is his doing.

Yep. And the first opinion he writes for a 5-4 majority on a controversial issue will be seen as illegimate and questioned.

Also, he went on Fox News, not 60 minutes.

No, I whole heartedly disagree by and large, and by a large margin, people do not want authoritarian dictators in America.

Of course there will be some on both sides who think;'s the way to go, but it ain't happening, and Trump will probably be gone in the next election unless the economy stays strong, democrats help to rile up the republican base (I've been amazed at the number of woman in many different walks of life who've sided with Kavannnaugh over "sister" Ford)  more than Trumps crazy ass shit riles the democrats (women predominantly), and there's no military crisis.

Not the first 5-4 vote but every 5-4 vote.   We will hear more stories about Brett even after he is confirmed.

I don’t believe the court makeup is changing all that much.  Sure party boy Bart won’t be the swing vote but Roberts will move into that position.  Like Kennedy Roberts will vote conservative 95% of the time.  For large cases, he will swing left.

I hope whatever source you have, or even if it's just you're opinion, is right. The only hitch I'm reading about is Daines being at his daughter's wedding so things might have to be delayed until he gets back.

Daines went on Fox News last night to say that he would be there to vote if needed. I’m sure his daughter will understand.

See this is why you don’t plan weddings in the fall. In this case it’s ultimate fail, on TX/OU weekend and on the day of the senate vote.

It's not like she's going somewhere. Trump's saving her for the Ginsberg replacement. Of course, we'll find out she's not nearly as clean as you think.  She used to babysit when she was 12. I'm sure some of those kids will be remembering the porn videos she showed them, along with the satanic rituals and kitten sacrifices.
