Texas Longhorns Coach David Pierce Suspended Two Games

David Pierce will miss Texas' next two contests after his outburst following an ejection on Sunday.

Things got a little bit heated at the conclusion of the seventh inning between the Texas Longhorns and TCU Horned Frogs in Sunday's series finale. Well, they got heated between coach David Pierce and the umpire crew calling the game, that is.

With a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh, Peyton Powell drew a two-out walk to put runners at the corners for the Longhorns. Coming to the plate was Max Belyeu, stepping into the box with a chance to keep the line moving and plate at least one crucial insurance run. Which he appeared to do.

After Belyeu appeared to take one into right field for a clutch two-out RBI single, the umpires convened and ruled that the ball struck Powell and thus made it a dead ball. A single for Belyeu but no run driven in, ending the inning with Texas still clinging to a 2-1 lead.

That call did not sit well with Pierce, who let the umpires know his displeasure which resulted in his ejection. He didn't stop there, though, continuing to give the crew a piece of his mind well after being removed from the game. Ultimately the call was likely the correct one, but Pierce took umbrage with the lack of a review on the play.

As a result of his ... we'll say persistence, it was confirmed by the Big 12 on Monday evening that Pierce will be suspended for the next two games per the NCAA rulebook which states - "No team personnel may continue to argue or to continue to excessively express themselves with prolonged actions or offensive language after an ejection.''

Those two games for Texas will be Tuesday night's midweek matchup against the UT Arlington Mavericks and Friday night's series opener of a pivotal conference series against the Big 12-leading Oklahoma Sooners.

It is yet to be seen whether or not the suspension will hurt the Longhorns, but it is important that they don't lose focus of the bigger picture with the season nearing the home stretch and a conference title still in play

I remembered a game against TCU about a year ago and Pierce got tossed for arguing. There was a rule then that a coach was suspended for one game, but if he didn't leave when the umpires told him to, he was suspended for two games. I wouldn't believe each conference like the Big 12 had their own suspension rules. I thought that was governed by the NCAA. It's hard to keep up with all the rule changes. I decided to look up that game and found this.

The rig12 had all kinds of stupid ass rules that always seemed to screw us

Can't mop the floors if his elbow gets hurt.

Guess how many schools have made the CWS in nine consecutive decades, although only eight in Omaha

Can I say I don't know so that you have to let us see your avatar again?

They've already moved on from an interim coach that took them deep into Omaha. He's now coaching Utah/Big12

And his record at utah has confirmed we made the correct decision.

I honestly didn't know Utah had a baseball program.

Ole Miss at Dirt burglers playing in Norman, so weather is fine there. 7:45 start should be good for us at Arky.

Hook’em!!!

Ole Miss at OU was a pitcher’s dream. Neither team had more than a handful of hits.

Hook’em!!!

It’s kind of amazing that at this point in the season 11 teams still have a mathematical chance at the regular season title.  Hopefully, that decreases today

We have to sweep Florida.

I would certainly like to, but Arkansas finishes with LSU and Tennessee. Texas should have the easier finish, especially with a two-game lead.

I agree. But I just mean in terms of getting some groove back. Winning the series would work, but a sweep could really get some mojo back

Here’s to hoping. Need to get Belyeu, Mendoza, and Rodriguez fully healthy, and hopefully today helps get Jalin out of his funk at the plate. Honestly, not a bad time in the season for them to remember their shit still stinks and they have to take every game and every series seriously with true focus. Only eight regular-season games left and then it’s go time.

Do we think Beyleu is gonna contribute meaningfully? There’s not much time left for him to get going and we won’t have time to waste at bats while he gets up to speed.

That’s what a meaningless conference tournament is for

aggy pitching must have turned it around somewhat.  Coming into our series, all of their starters had 4.5ish ERAs in conference.  Them holding us down Friday and Saturday I took as a sign we were in a bit of a funk which seemed to continue this Thursday and Friday.  But holding LSU to 3 runs over 2 games yesterday is pretty good.  🤷‍♂️

Jason Kelly is a very good pitching coach.

Watched the LSU game.  Eyanson tossed a 3 hitter for LSU,  only 112 pitches for 9 innings.   Prager and Lampkin are very talented.  Lampkin was pulled after allowing 2 runs in 6 innings.  But they brought in Caden McCoy,  freshman from Bloomington, Ind who was impressive,  iirc only 2 hits over the final innings.

This is the time of the year when the cream rises to the top or not.   Pitchers begin to find their groove.

Today's schedule.

Gata up 11-3 over Gamehens

Assuming we close this out, we win the series, rest for an hour, and play a seven inning third game.

A sweep would be nice.

South Carolina keeps on putting in pitchers for no discernible reason. They are down 15-3  in the ninth.  At least nine gator batters in each of the last two innings.  I have no idea what arms they have left for the third game.

Edit: 17-3 now.  Bases loaded again.  2 outs and Gata still batting

GS Gata.   22-3

After a crappy start, we have won the last four SEC series.   The powers that be have us as a number three seed somewhere.  I have to admit, we will be a salty three seed that very few people want in their regional

Edited by Gatorubet

Kentucky will have to find 3 wins over the next 2 weekends to have any hope at a regional. Oklahoma at home and Vandy on the road. Going to be very difficult.

aggy wearing their non-school colors R,W,&B uniforms on Sunday.  WTF aggy, just wear your school shit.

He's perfect for aggy.

In the mid-90s I started playing men's senior league baseball in Austin. It was a great experience, and I had so much fun doing it I played 12 years. We always had a good mix of guys. Everything from college professors to tow truck drivers just getting together to play some ball. For the most part everyone took it for what it was...a chance to get some exercise and play a game you loved....but you could always spot the aggies. Always talking shit, always grousing at the umpires, diving at balls for no reason...one guy used to wear a big elbow protector so he could lean into pitches. Relax Kyle, there's no scouts here today. You're going to have to go back to your job tomorrow at AMD or whatever. Earley reminds me of those guys. Just a little dude trying to fake being a "dirtbag".

At Downs Field by any chance?

I mean they take pride in wearing “Texas Aggies” on their uniform. They are ashamed of who they are so why not try to be something else.

Some feeble delusional attempt to claim they're "America's team" to try to outflank the 'sips????  Lulz.

That sweep over the aggies was actually pretty legit. They have beaten LSU, Tenn, and Ark now. Sucks they are this hot, probably gonna have to beat them in a super regional.

Bright side of LSU losing is we will stay #1

Are we sure LSU is a really good team? Their signature series win is against Tennessee who doesn’t look great themselves.

Swept by Auburn, series loss to Texas, series loss to A&M and played no one worth a damn in non conference play.

Really need them to take 2 from Arky next week.

I think we lit a fire under piggy.  LSU will have their hands full.

I think we control our own destiny.  If Arkansas can sustain against LSU/TENN then they deserve a piece of it, if we can't sweep Florida and win in Norman, we don't.
