CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — The threat of a newly discovered asteroid has risen slightly in the past few weeks, as the world’s telescopes rush to track its course. But the chance of an impact is still quite slim.

New calculations suggest there’s a 2% chance the space rock 2024 YR4 will smack Earth in 2032.

I'm wondering if they can direct it towards the TAMC vs Piggy game at Jerryworld.  You know, for maximum efficiency.

This.  When I read that chances were climbing, I was like

Then I read "in 2032," and was like

Damn I need to take social security early.

It’s not a planet killer, but if it could just land on Jerry Jones’ yacht with him in it that would be nice.

How's the math work?

43,000,000,000-1?

They'll probably call it off anyways.

Chances will rise until they most likely drop to zero as we get more observations, and it could fuck some shit up between South America and India, or it could land in the ocean.  Not close to a global killer

Not a global killer?  NGL, I kinda want it to happen.  Very interesting.

Well, honestly... if we could just guide it, I'd be OK with it.  Maybe we could sell raffle tickets to control it?

Idiocracy is happening as we speak so it makes sense that Don’t Look Up will also happen.

I want it to be on a collision course with earth just to see how it's dealt with.  elon or NASA or china or someone else or everyone together will figure out how to blow it up or nudge it off course and it'll be very interesting to follow.  that thing is never hitting earth, thankfully.  the horns might win it all in 2032.

Sad Broken Heart GIF by The Bachelor

If I remember correctly from my astronomy class, the chances of Earth getting hit by a devastating asteroid are astronomically low. I think Earth has a higher chance of getting hit by a piece of moon being broken off and gravity shooting it toward here. If, of course, the gravitational pull of the sun and earth line up correctly, for that broken piece of moon to have a 100% trajectory towards Earth. But my intelligence of math and calculations are merely at a financial, economical, and business level. And I would enjoy reading responses from physicist and advanced mathematicians.

By the time that thing arrives I’ll be living a few thousand miles away from the US. Just hit South Florida and call it a successful day.

If I recall from mine, Jupiter does a lot of the work to help protect us, including I think deflecting asteroids into the asteroid belt.

It sure as fuck ain't Pluto. Fuck you Pluto.

You know the back up to Pluto isn't even in the solar system yet right?!? And you think we should bench Pluto. If Uranus could block we wouldn't be having these issues. Stop blaming Pluto you Maga hat wearing Libtard Nazi.

Dude, everyone knows the "stars" are just a holographic image. Pluto is real though. I was abducted by beings from that planet. They didn't probe me, but they were into scat play and hated OU so it was an odd somewhat positive somewhat disgusting encounter. They do control the "asteroids" though and told me were good. So, don't worry.

I found out I work with a flat earther. Not at all surprised, having known him for like 5 years, but it’s still a shock when it comes out.

Life flourished on earth in part bc of Jupiter keeps asteroids and comets from hitting earth, thus earth has had a stable environment for life to evolve

In my painfully long dating process I've determined that getting flat earth and covid vaccination thought aspects of the woman VERY early in the process helps eliminate a LOT of wasted cycles.

BE: High I'm BE also known as Pimphand or Graham by my close friends. During covid I spent a lot of time on this cool astronomy app mapping stars. It was nice to travel some and use it in other places after I got the vaccine. You care much for astronomy. (This also triggers the astrology aspect. Pro dating tips, you're welcome.)
