we couldn’t make out the words because Trump’s old saggy, meatballs were in his mouth.

Yep, Dimon has flopped back to his original position that tariffs are inflationary.  Lickspittle.

Ackshually, this may be like Cantor shitting on the tariffs while Howie is SecComm.  The workaday economists and traders have very different views from their politically sensitive bosses.

Donald Trump has committed the most profound, harmful and unnecessary economic error in the modern era. Almost everything he said—on history, economics and the technicalities of trade—was utterly deluded econ.st/3YbbFjq

In the long run, tariffs will work. Also in the long run, we’re all dead. That’s true. We all gonna die. Thune getting existential in his comments.

Thune tipping his hand that he took liberties with that good sweet devil’s lettuce in preparation for liberation day.

Vietnam thinking logic has something to do with this.

Quote

“Vietnamese taxes are currently much lower than the 90% rate calculated by the U.S.,” Nguyen Duc Chi, Vietnam’s deputy minister of finance, said in an interview. According to the ministry’s figures, the average levy applied on American imports into Vietnam is about 9.4 percent. “We believe the rate announced by the U.S. government is a maximum estimate, and the specific rate will still be subject to review,” he said of the tariffs.

They haven't heard Louis CK's accurate view of the United States

Up till now, we have white-- We have white people problems In America, that's what we have. White people problems. You know what that is? That's where your life Is amazing, so you just make shit up to be upset about. People in other countries have real problems. Like, "oh, shit, they're cutting off all our heads today." Things like that. Here we make shit up to be upset about. "Like, how come I have to choose a language on the atm machine? It's bullshit." "I shouldn't have to do that. I'm American." God, the shit We bitch about. "I called American Airlines, and I got a Pakistani lady. And she was in Pakistan! Only people near my fat, white body should have jobs."

I actually think about that Louis CK quote a lot. People here are just bored, and want the show that comes with everything Trump. I think it's literally just entertainment to a lot of people.

I will always remember the family of Trump voters interviewed in 2016, in their monster house and nice cars in the driveway. Talking about how tough things were and how we needed to gamble on Trump. "Burn it down".

The worst part of this is that even if manufacturing jobs came back because of this (they won’t) and even if Americans retooled for those jobs (they won’t) those jobs sucked! It’s like demanding to return to being a farming society. People fled that life the instant they could, in the millions!

And will blame all negative consequences on immigrants, Biden, or Obama.

The biggest issue for Dems is looking at the market for help. Trump and his people know how to manipulate the markets.  And in the history of downturns, the market is usually wrong about the direction of the economy anyways. Dems have to win the messaging on pocketbooks like the Rs did last year. You can already see how Rs are responding today. Vance is talking about how you will have more money to fight inflation. That wasn’t the thought last year when income was actually up more than inflation under Biden.

The markets could rally today but the long term pain to the American people whether by unemployment, inflation or other things will persist. The Dems have to be smart about messaging it because reality doesn’t matter. If it did, Biden would still be in office. And we all know how will Dems message.

All of this. Trump made politics entertainment by turning it into professional wrestling, except somehow even more stupid. And our fame and reality show obsessed culture ate it all up.

The two most prominent categories of Trump voters that I know personally are:

1) Well off, burn it down types. Fuck you, got mine. It's all a game to them.

2) People (usually young parents) who I know didn't give a shit about politics 10 years ago beyond their own personal kitchen table issues who now fear their children being taken away from them if they disagree with their hypothetical desire to surgically transition. The crazier the story, the more likely they are to believe it. It's insanity.

They were pretty fucking good, and then Trump rolled in with his Make America Great Again bullshit and convinced millions of people that our country was broken and needed a reality TV show host to fix it. Not once, but twice he sold that lie and stupid Americans bought it.

There needs to be a new campaign of AWG - American Was Great.

He hitched his wagon to a buffoon thinking he could manipulate him, knowing that everyone around him has suffered from their connections to him and that the buffoon has never been held accountable.    Now his company has lost 11% value in a week.   While he can argue it is a systemic system and that some are worse off, everyone will know that this clown helped support and usher this worldwide chaos in.

And when we get a Teddy Roosevelt type back in office there will be a reckoning on these large investment banking firms who have participated, caused, and encouraged worldwide financial disasters.

And a whole lot of this.

Look, the American voter responds to promises of punishment and vengeance.  Cool.  We need an opposition party to run on that.  Win.  And then fucking DELIVER.  The rules of the game are now "use the full power of the office/the government to inflict maximum pain on everyone you disfavor."  So, let's fucking PLAY BALL.

siap, is he under the impression that drug traffickers pay tariffs?

#1299

The idea is that Canada is allowing this somehow and that the tariffs will make them work harder to stop it.

Pretty sure Canada is already doing all it can to stop illegal drug trading.

Probably doesn't help that the United States has been pushing a great money laundering tool in crypto-currency to aid organized crime in its work though. Just saying.
