I'm being 100% serious when I say I gave nuclear war a fairly substantial odds of happening when I saw the election result, I'm not being remotely hyperbolic when I say this.

Yes, but did you think it would be with Canada?

I mean they are on the way to Greenland, seems natural.

If we get to the point of Canada threatening to cut off electricity to the states that they're supplying, I would fully expect that Trump would threaten to send in troops as they're harming our national security.

With all of this winning, I'm uncertain that I can contain my excitement.

answering myself I see that the Ontario PM Ford has threatened to shut off the electricity if Trump continues the trade war. I don't see cooler heads prevailing from our side, so I could see Trump threatening military intervention if Ontario goes through with it.

We're going to end up with a hot war with canada over small amounts of fentanyl.

And half the country will be rooting for Canada.

If we get into a shooting war, would it be wrong to root for the Canadians blowing up the white house?

If it becomes a shooting war, does the transfer portal open immediately?  Asking for a friend.

We are going to end up in a Hot war with Canada because Trump is envious that Trudeau could fuck both his wife and his daughter. And he's not wrong.

According to the Harry Turtledove alternative history series, the war with Canada does not go well.

Viet Cong is a cool name.  So what would I be if I decide to don black pajamas, sandals, and try to help Canada?

I vote for Jesus Murphy's, Bloody Caesars, or Beavertails.

6. Mickey / Texas mickey

A mickey is a small bottle of alcohol that you tried to hide in your jeans when heading out to a party. No, really. While a mickey is actually a small bottle of alcohol (375mL or 13oz), the bottle itself is shaped to fit in your pocket which dates all the way back to the 19th century, thanks to the people who got a little too rowdy and had to be more conspicuous about their drinking habits.

31. Jesus Murphy

This is a fun Canadian slang word that’s used as a safe expletive, as if changing The Lord’s last name makes the phrase any less blasphemous. Extra points if you add a little bit of an English or Irish accent when you say it!

43. Five-hole

Since you’re in Canada you’ll be exposed to more hockey than you probably signed up for, so you might as well learn some of the sports lingo! You’ll often hear players say, “I scored through the five-hole” which means they managed to score a goal between the goalie’s legs.

47. Beavertail

This is one of the best desserts you can try while you’re in this beautiful country. Don’t worry, Canadians don’t actually eat the tails of their National animal. This dessert is made of deep fried dough that’s shaped and stretched into a long oval, similar to the shape of a beaver’s tail!

51. Bloody Caesar

Similar to a Bloody Mary, in Canada a Bloody Caesar (or caesar) is considered the unofficial cocktail of the country. The difference being the use of clamato juice rather than tomato juice. Yep, it’s base is a mixture of tomato and clam juice. Give’r a go if you’re brave enough.

No....it's not even because of that.  There is no rational reason -- not even a STUPID rational reason -- for us to be in ANY conflict with Canada, trade, hot, or otherwise.

This is about two things: 1) Trump personally hates Trudeau, and 2) Trump is going to keep ratcheting hostilities up, backing himself into a corner until he feels that his only option is war.  Because he is a TERRIBLE negotiator, with no vision of a real goal, and no wisdom, with no sane people around him to check his worst impulses.

If it is about Trudeau it is even stupider since Trudeau had already stepped down before any of this shit happened. He is a lame duck.

"Stupider and stupider" is the governing rule, man.

Imagine the dumbest possible reason to do something self-destructive.  Have you imagined it?  No.  You haven't.  It's WAY dumber than that.

Yes, but soon it'll be so abundant we'll be able to pump it directly from the atmosphere.

So we have that going for us, which is nice.

You need to understand that Canada requires more men and horsies, so you take it first to unite Alaska for troop movement, then take the single Central American piece.

I'll be the first to admit my attitude may be a tad optimistic.

Having said that, when do you think we can expect a proportionate response from the American public?

3. because he wants to be more like putin. he thinks this is how a strongman acts.

in fact, i would put that as #1 and the only reason. this isn't about negotiations with canada going sideways, that is just a symptom. he thinks expanding territory is how you get remembered as "great". someone should convince him that being a martyr is the only way to really get remembered.

I recall several pretty good beers consumed on a western Canadian Stars’ hockey trip back in the day. Something called Kokanee Gold or some such. There was another one. Fuck Molson and Labatt’s, though in reality they’re probably preferable to Bud Light.

That's certainly a major factor, but to what end?  My understanding is that Putin wants to put the SSR band back together ...or at least the old Russian empire.  Either of which would include parts of current European countries.  Is that not correct?

Who cares about a hot war where --let's be serious-- Canada doesn't stand a chance against us as we are sociopaths at the highest level and you can't compete with that combined with our lethality.

Why is Trump ruining our economy!?!?

How many Americans are willing to shoot Anglophone commonwealth troops vs how many Canadians are willing to protect their homeland? I'd wager there are more in the Canadian column and they'd certainly have higher morale.

Russia can't march through Kiev. They sure as shit ain't marching through Europe.

Final note on the topic from me.

I'd argue they can't march through US equipment and intelligence.

They gained almost all their lost ground in Kursk during Trump's pause in aid to Ukraine.

And I'd bet that the small percentage of their nukes that ARE functional have a better chance of going off in their silos or over Russian soil before even making it to NATO countries.

According to back channels at West Point, not many.
