You know who isn't affected by the Trump economy?  The Amish.  They are the real winners here.

Does anyone know if they are accepting new members?  Does it come with benefits like periodic rumspringas?

Just bought a table and chairs from them, should be delivered just before wartime rationing starts. Good times.

I still don't know why John Book didn't try to tap Rachel in Witness, especially after seeing her tit-tays.  She clearly would have been up for it.

“Oil prices are down, interest rates are down (the slow moving Fed should cut rates!), food prices are down, there is NO INFLATION, and the long time abused USA is bringing in Billions of Dollars a week from the abusing countries on Tariffs that are already in place,” he wrote on Truth Social just before 7 a.m.

Yeah, it's the NY Post, but I am not going to go find it on Truthy Social

The first step to fixing a problem is understanding and acknowledging a problem exists. I mentioned in my first post that I thought the democratic party was starting to lean too far left, which many took an issue with. Despite how you personally feel about the far left's agenda, you have to acknowledge how the swing voters feel. A liberal voting for a dem in a firm democratic state doesn't make a shit. A swing voter who is put off by the far left will have a material impact. The fact that the dems couldn't win over the swing states in an election where the other candidate was a convicted criminal  should have told you how poorly the dems ran their campaign.

Personally, I align ideologically with the people who are attacking me here. My differences have to do with what I feel the swing voters needed to see and hear. It's a game of thrones and you better play dirty to win it. I am angry at the dems because they didn't listen to those voters and that they let Biden wait so long to drop out.

Dems haven't had a charismatic candidate since Obama. Biden won because people wanted anyone but Trump. Then people forgot how terrible the first Trump presidncy was and the Republicans blamed Biden for the inflation. I am sure the dems will win it in the next election no matter who runs because people would want anyone but Trump.

The most concerning thing for me, as I watch my portfolio drop almost a million bucks in a month or so, is the apparent breakdown in checks and balances. All branches leaning one way is a recipe for disaster.

People believe that Democrats are far left radicals because that's what people in the "center" say, because every time a center-left Democrat runs for office they say "I'm not like those crazy communist Democrats, I'm a salt of the earth farmer/military veteran with a conservative background and conservative values who just thinks my opponent is a little bit too far right!"

"Democrats are far left communists out of touch with American values" is literally Republican propaganda and tens of millions of dumbasses do their work for them by mindlessly repeating it.

Did we "educate" them? Perhaps if we mock them more, they will learn their lesson. Are we willing to sink the boat so these people learn? I don't think you can change people and their beliefs.

It's a republican propaganda that resonated with the swing voters enough to put a mand man in office. Elections are dirty. You have to have a message that resonates with the swing voters (because majority doesn't matter anymore) or you spend the next four years crying about it.

There are a boatload of former Republicans, myself included, that post on this board. Lots of examples of people that, when presented with evidence, reexamined their beliefs and made adjustments.

There is no winning over the stupid.  The only way to get them is to go MORE stupid.

It's a race to the bottom.  And the trophy is the death of the Republic.

Stupid won.  It's over.

Yes, it's resonated because for decades now virtually everyone else involved in discussing American politics has validated it in an attempt to seem reasonable instead of pointing out that it's obvious bullshit. We should try something new.

Russia is certainly enjoying the carnage

(Translated headline) Russia gloats over Trump's tariffs: "Our country will become a great superpower and Trump will help with that"

Quote

Russia sees some benefit from the tariffs that President Donald Trump imposed on almost all countries except it.

Economist Aleksei Zubets estimated in Russian media that one of the most important benefits for Russia is that Western countries will "forget" about Ukraine while focusing on the trade war started by the United States.

According to Zubets, the war in Ukraine ceased to be the center of attention last Wednesday, when Trump announced new tariffs on almost all countries.

For example, the United States imposed a 20 percent import tariff on the European Union.

"Everyone is interested in US tariffs and their consequences for Europe, Asia and the whole world. Ukraine is no longer of interest to anyone, and that's good," Zubets commented to Gazeta.ru .

Only Russia, Belarus, North Korea and Cuba were exempt from US tariffs, the first three of which are involved in the war of aggression in Ukraine.

"We" aren't sinking the ship. "We" don't have any power to that. "We," however, have been sounding this alarm for fucking years, but the moderates in the middle have the memories of goldfish.

If you are a Gen Xer, every single Republican administration that you've experienced as an adult has ended in an economic disaster: Big Bush, Shrub, and Trump. And every single Democratic administration has had to clean up his predecessor's mess.

One would think that people of normal intelligence could maybe pick up on a fucking pattern by now and consider that maybe those loony leftists know what the fuck they're doing and talking about.

After trying -- repeatedly and desperately -- to point shit out, sometimes you just get worn down, and all you have left is falling back on bitter and angry ridicule.

Who could have guessed that "they're eating cats and dogs" and "your children will come home from school a different gender" would be a more resonant message than "we will protect medicare/medicaid and social security"?

Those are not serious ideas or messages. How do you reason with a person living a completely different reality?

So now we are at the 'negotiate' point that we often have seen. But how do you negotiate when somebody who put up a reciprocal tariff presentation board like the Trump Whitehouse did?  How do you get a factual place to negotiate, when one party is starting from a place where things simply do not add up.  That's the negotiation side of the coin.

So how do you negotiate with people whose math does not add up when you are talking about money?  It's a difficult fucking task.

Again, they have to be willing to accept that they were conned. Telling them they're doing a great job is counterproductive in the long run. If they don't understand how they were tricked it will just happen again, and it will happen very soon. If they can't stand the discomfort of being told they were and still are being conned then they don't actually care enough to change.

And anyone who thinks the Democratic Party has drifted left is still completely lost.

Back to economy. I have spurred with people who think tariffs will bring back the jobs and make America stronger in the long run. We already have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world at around 4%. Will bringing back the manufacturing jobs make people switch from their higher paying service jobs to lower paying manufacturing jobs or are we just trying to find jobs for the 4% that's unemployed? Is reaching full employment even possible? Why does America need to compete with the likes of Bangladeshi and Vietnamese laborers?

They say, well, we need a fair and balanced trade. They are putting tariffs on our products, so we need to retaliate until they come to the table. The reason these poor countries levy tariffs is to tax their rich on imported luxury goods. In Honduras, they charge ~40% tariffs on imported golf cart, not because they want to help their local producers. It's to tax their rich. They don't make golf carts. I think a lot of people, who never lived in those countries, understand this.

Bingo.  The issue is not that we don't have jobs.  The issue is that our entire economy has tilted in a way where the wealth those jobs created does not go to the people performing those jobs.

wagescompensation-1200x1093.png?format=p

That's it.  "Bringing back" jobs sewing shoes together doesn't fix that problem.  It doesn't even scratch the surface.

This admin defined the problem wrong, measured it wrong, and came up with a "fix" that is SO wrong...it's not just wrong because they're trying to fix the wrong problem, it's wrong even if they defined the problem correctly.

God we are so fucked.

I am just going to remark on the 3 points I singled out.

The Democratic Party has moved too far to the center (right) in reality and they have ceded too much of the rules to the wackos and have not exploited systems to retain or usurp power because they, unlike the republicans, actually believe in this country and working within the system to enact change.   They understand that our government is not supposed to be efficient but take time to thoughtfully consider actions, discover the pros and cons of actions, and then vote on making decisions.   This stable predictable system allows us to be boring and bureaucratic, but also mindful and considerate.   Our republican members are the ones undermining this with knee-jerk reactions.

We have a real issue with propaganda and mis/disinformation within the United States.   This was started and exploited by the republicans and you can see hallmarks of it everywhere you bother to look.  You can see how foreign hostile actors have infiltrated the republicans and their supporters to further corrupt and drive a wedge.  Every fucking election of my life, the DNC's candidates were the most liberal ever from what I heard from right-wing propagandists.   They even manipulated their stupid fucking audience so much they no longer understood what words meant, words like communism, fascism, socialism, liberal democracy, they know nothing.  All they can think is reflexively like a lizard, liberal = bad, and that is the sum total of republicanism.  When Obama announced the killing of bin Laden, I saw how it really irked republicans.   We all saw it.  Because we knew you were about party over country.  Now you are about Trump over party over country.

Biden was charismatic.  Harris was less so.  Trump is very charismatic but also a buffoon.  Had he been born poor, he would have been a used car salesman and not the likable Kurt Russell/Bill Paxton type.   Again, you are not serious people.  This isn't a fucking TV show where the ratings = success.  Trump is great for ratings but look at the current state of the economy and uncertainty.   Presidents should come on TV/Radio once in a while,  report major incidents/results and largely stay in the background.  Once politics becomes analogous to a team sport and ratings become important than we are all in for it as this feeds their ego, and that creates more attention seeking.  It is time to grow the fuck up and vote for qualified serious people and not a bunch of dumbfucks that communicate with the latest memes or in a style that seems more appropriate of teenagers.

If you cannot bring yourself to put in the time an energy to research candidates and their ideas then don't fucking vote.  Let people do it who can.  Or just vote straight democratic party.  Because right now those are the only fucking adults in the room and have been for quite some time.  They are the only ones with a track record of holding their own accountable for misdeeds.  They are the only ones who are serious about governing to the best of their abilities and protecting the interests of all.   They are the only candidates who prioritize freedoms and balance out social responsibility.  They have the only candidates who are considering some pushback against the growing oligarchy.

And other countries putting tariffs on a few luxury goods that they import from us and don't produce themselves is literally not a fucking problem for anyone in America.

Correct, the way to combat the mistaken belief that Democrats drifted left is to point out the truth, not concede the point. Conceding the point is how we got here. The 2025 Democratic Party is way right of the 1980s Democratic Party. It only seems like it moved left because the Republicans have moved way way way way right. So the general public (read: simpletons) is easily fooled into believing the lie.

The greatest economic engine in history, the USA from 1946-1973, had higher corporate taxes, huge government investment/spending, and occurred at the same time as an explosion of liberal social policies.

The only people who benefit from our recent hard rightward lurch are the richest of the rich. The greatest period of any society in history, where the entire nation benefited, was based on far more government involvement.

Ackman, Musk, Chamath, Vivek and a few other billionaires hitched their wagon to Trump because they saw how he was able to manipulate the "poorly educated." Democrats are also to blame for creating this monster. The party was leaning too far left and ran a terrible campaign.

If the country survives until the midterms, there will be a reckoning for the MAGA candidates though. I hope we survive that long.

Fucking moron.

I wish I could rep this more than once because it fucking deserves it.
