This. The very fact these “wealthy” individuals have taken this long to privately, let alone publicly, ask this question shows they are so blinded by the chase for the dollar that their brains are broken in terms of actual human experience and reality.

Those people are just wired differently I guess. I wonder how people with so much money don’t have “make money” get de-prioritized in their lives.  Not go away completely, but slide down the list a little bit in favor of experiential endorphin hits, which might even include helping others. But it stays at the top. Nothing is more important, ever.

Laughable that Trump's team is advocating that it's now Main Street's time to grow after Wall Street has grown over the last 4 decades. The GOP and MAGA have fought every measure to help blue collar and low wage worker. Any measure to protect (safety, security or compensation) them has always been shot down as unfair govt intervention with the invisible hand of capitalism.

Hell, Johnny Sack argued here for de facto slavery as long as someone is dumb enough to work for low wages.

Not only that but their main priority today to counter the tariff issues is a tax cut that don’t affect Main Street.

Farmers qualify as a protected demographic. A third rail of protection, politically. Maybe the last protected thing in the USA, now that SS and money are being torched.

Do it as early as possible so you can better sell the crash as Biden related and the rebound as Trump fixed it.  Although they could have done this in 3 years and still had the same level of buy-in about bidenonics.

Two reasons:

1. Strategically important to make our own food. So Trump's anti-ag policies that keep destroying our ag markets are a national security issue.

2. Most farming is now owned by giant ag corps and they are probably big Republican donors. Probably bad to keep fucking them.

Just like last time.  All the tariffs did was redistribute wealth from urban people to farmers.

Yeah right. Everybody is going to reroute their supply chains in 90 days without even being sure these tariffs will even be implemented with 75 "countries" "negotiating"

Yes, it’s not like DOGE suddenly ended.  That hit to our economy is just a slower progression. Trump‘s ruining the stock market is the quick shiny object getting all of our attention.

I don’t think that anybody watching this shit show is going to declare that everything is fixed just because of the 90 day pause.   Thinking that a 90 day tariff pause is going to suddenly change the fact that the entire world now hates our ass is a conclusion that only a cult member could process.

The negative consequences from that loss of confidence and friendship will unfortunately be long lasting and not soon repairable. it will also wind up being very, very expensive.

Yes, I intentionally cut all the fingers on my left hand, but I also went to the cabinet and got some towels to wrap up the bloody stump. I threw some ice in a bucket with my severed fingers and drove myself to the hospital to have them reattached. The surgeons praised me for what a great job I did saving my fingers. It's weird though, some deranged moron sitting in the emergency room tried to say I was a dumbass for cutting off my fingers. He probably had a really high fever.

Nobody is going to be negotiating anything with us in the next 90 days. The rest of of the world will be negotiating with each other, with the goal of disentangling from us as much as possible.

This is why I was noting that the market losses were not going to be a win for Democrats. He was always going to manipulate the markets for his benefit. And the markets are the worst indicator for the actual economy. Everything he has done today has made the situation worse and we could be in for some serious pain the longer the Chinese tariffs are in place. Pain that will be felt by the average American long before the markets slide again.

I'd like to believe this, but I think the United States is a market none of them want to give up no matter how ridiculous its leader is.

I agree, but I'll believe it when I see it. I actually think a lot of these "renegotiations" will end up with what is basically a return to the status quo ante and the smartphone world will move on to the next distraction.

Or maybe we'll really see a paradigm shift away from the nation that currently has 11 carrier strike groups at its disposal.

Notice the time stamp of this Truth Social post.

hmmm.

An image of Trump’s Truth Social post. “Now is a good time to buy.” Rule 10b-5 prohibits the use of material nonpublic information for personal or third-party financial gain. Trump’s post, when combined with the market-moving announcement and Greer’s testimony, fits the legal definition of market manipulation and insider trading. Trump’s post was 7 minutes after the NYSE opened—before Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the 90-day pause on tariffs. The sequence and timing directly support insider trading and market manipulation. By informing people to buy before the policy was publicly disclosed, Trump broke the law.

So what are the options to prevent the spectacular funding/deficit failure that we are quickly headed for currently?

Step 1) Various schemes to further enrich Trump and his cronies.

Step 2) Various schemes to further concentrate wealth in the billionaire class.

Step 3) Fuck you, pay me.

In short, that is the only plan, there is zero plan to prevent an exploding deficit.  Firing a few hundred million dollars worth of government employees who actually do things doesn't solve the deficit, and passing an additional multi-trillion dollar tax cut sure as shit doesn't solve it - it makes it massively worse.

Anyone who says or even thinks that Trump and the GQP give a single shit about the deficit or being fiscal conservatives should do the planet a favor and drink cyanide, because anyone that stupid should eliminated themself from the gene pool.

If the deficit is actually your concern, history tells you that voting GQP is not the answer:

deficit-7a479f.png

Almost without fail, deficit amount goes up under a Republican, and declines under a Dem.  Because of course, slashing spending and slashing tax revenues (every single GQP plan to "attack the deficit" has those two pillars) DOESN'T FUCKING WORK.  The "budget deficit" is a creature of our overall economy and is related to GDP and overall economic health, as well as on spending and incoming revenues directly.  You can keep trusting the people who have 1) run on the issue, yet 2) consistently fucked us on it for forty fucking years, but I sure as fuck wouldn't.

So history says we're doomed either way to drive off the cliff, no party has a plan.

1 minute ago, MonkeyDoughnut said:

Budget deficits are fine if managed.  History says we can do reasonably well under a Dem president.  Healthy functioning economy, not subject to insane volatility or a recession caused by shooting our own dick off, a tax plan that actually brings in decent revenue, spending that (and this is the shocker, contrary to GQP rhetoric) that is more conservative and better managed.....these are the things you get when you "just say no" to GQP fiscal mismanagement.

We're not driving off a cliff.

Correction: we WEREN'T, until the deranged genetically freakish demonic lovechild of Thelma, Louise, and the clown from "It" took the wheel.

Just a thought maybe we could vote D consistently and not let the GOP sucker us constantly with moral panics and tax cuts they never pay for.
