when someone says “stay back” in baseball, what do they mean?

Both of those are applicable. I said that phrase meaning both of those things multiple times today during practice. They sorta mean the same thing but I guess could apply to your hands and not your weight.

Same. It’s usually where’s my weight post load and the hands are good indicator of that. That dreaded feeling after you two hopped one to the short stop on an off speed pitch.

It means both. You wait on the pitch so you transfer your weight at the proper time.

It's what some African-Americans will say to encourage others to be true to the culture.

Means let the ball get to you so don't lunge at it, so it's kinda both.   Wait on the pitch with your "weight back"

Lol at an Astro fan being one of the two people to get the question wrong

Let it get deep

That’s “wait on it”. Stay back is about making sure your hands are the last part of your swing coming through the zone.

I was going more for the double entendre of it all with the other thing you usually hear shouted at some poor 9-year-old.  I'm pretty familiar with the concept of the kinetic chain.

Mean the same thing to me.

telling the batter to wait on the pitch, don't get ahead the pitch

They're not always the same. Sometimes you let the ball get deep but your wrists, and therefore your power, are not behind the ball.  I.e. for a right handed hitter hitting an outside pitch to right field.

keep your nose behind your bellybutton

Yes I’m sure you’re extremely well versed in baseball lingo.
