March 4Mar 4 Popular Post The president has ordered federal lands and forests to be turned over to the logging industry to """protect our national security""" https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/03/trump-national-forest-executive-order The kicker is that he's using the pretense of it reducing fire risk, when in reality it's going to reduce the ability of forests to hold water and make those areas significantly drier. It's going to destroy those ancient ecosystems and they will be gone forever. Go while you still can!
March 4Mar 4 This motherfucker is literally trying to burn it down with zero reasoning other than he can and people in pain are easier to control. If legacy were a question this is the dumbest thing imaginable. One of the only things we get right in this country he wants to fuck up. Sell it for profit and also make it more flammable. Maybe the logging companies will rake behind themselves when they're done?
March 4Mar 4 No surprise. Carlsbad Caverns is closing down the caverns this month. Shitload of other parks have reduced levels of visitors and probably headed towards zero for the summer. The irony is that if this were a national security issue, we'd continue importing like crazy, and preserve our forests so that when the imports dry up/become too expensive, we are sitting on a huge chunk of untouched timber. Instead, we are going to help some executives hit their quarterly numbers and if our forests get fucked up, down the road Canada will bend us over. Edited March 4Mar 4 by atomheartbevo
March 4Mar 4 Popular Post Retards. The whole lot. Don't care about being PC or whatever. These people are retards.
March 4Mar 4 Unless heads start to literally roll, this shit will continue and our country will be gone. Fucking enraging.
March 4Mar 4 Popular Post I hate everything. Outside of my family (and basic human rights for everyone, of course), the natural world is just about the only thing I care about. Shocking, yet predictable, rage-inducing, depressing, dangerous, stupid, wasteful, cruel. Fuck

We were talking about this shit at my weekly card game, and there were a few saying Trump wouldn't get away with all this bullshit because of "Laws". When I asked them who the fuck was stepping up to stop them, they couldn't really come up with any examples, but you know...."Laws." You can tell it's a profitable poker game.
March 4Mar 4 Magats don't give a fuck because they are fat as fuck and don't go anywhere that isn't air conditioned.
March 4Mar 4 WTF is wrong with you guys? Do you have any idea how much we're going to get for all those redwoods? Yellowstone gonna blow up anyway, don't let it go to waste. Dolla, dolla bills, yo.
March 4Mar 4 I don't know... I mean, wouldn't clear cut land look nice as a strip mall with a big parking lot? Why not go see a handful of trees on the way to visit Mattress Firm or Nails Deluxx? They're bringing convenience and low low prices to the country!

Whatever this administration does, it's the bestest thing to do. Disagreeing with the insane bullshit is political to the dipshits.

Oh but I would rather clutch my pearls that you have brought current events to my attention rather than facing the fact that we're about to F up our national forests. You see? That's much more important.

I wish we could discuss specifically exactly if/how this will impact national forests, but instead it’s immediately shrouded in evil nefarious judgement, largely because of the OP, and his bias and framing. And I get the sentiment, I really do. Care to be more specific? I'm citing and using language from the article. How else should I frame it? "YAY CUT DOWN THE NATIONAL FORESTS AND DRILL BABY DRILL" more your speed I'm guessing?
March 4Mar 4 Honest question: what exactly do we need so much timber for? More wood to build houses for our totally exploding population? I don’t get the long game.

Regrowth after being clear cut. Notice how they are all the same size (age), too close together, and stressed (brown). Recipe for a disastrous fire. Natural old growth forests have trees that are not all the same age, not too close together, and generally not stressed. Much more resistant to fires. If lumber companies were required to replant, with saplings spread out, over the course of many years so they wouldn't all be the same age and too close together, it would really make a huge difference. But that would mean you hate freedom, so not going to happen.

The guided tours have already closed. They stopped the self-guided tours then opened up a few slots after people flipped out, but according to others, they are trying to be optimistic and don't have the manpower to keep things open for even the self-guided tours to go down. A lot of chatter that there is a struggle over closing off the caverns. Carlsbad Caverns Timed Entry Reservation, Carlsbad Caverns National Park Tours - Recreation.gov
March 4Mar 4 not sure why you thought calling me a "deviant" was funny when you typed it out, unless you're 11 years old or something.Because pooping in public could be considered an act of deviance, but more so because of the alliteration that comes with combining deviance and defecation?? Of all the things that get posted on this site daily; I am baffled that that would cause anyone angst. Also, to be told, on this site no less, that my sense of humor is immature is equally baffling. My apologies
