Lets say I have a question about some legal stuff. Instead of including something like @specificlawyerperson, could there be a system where I include something like @lawdogs and anybody who is a lawyer could voluntarily opt into to that lawdogs group and receive the group notification?

Could have @cardudes, @sciencenerds, @K-12teachers, @generalcontractors, etc. Anybody could opt in to that group, if they wanted to get notifications sent to that group. For example, I'm not a lawyer, but my wife is, so I might opt into @lawdogs. If I was getting too many notifications, I could opt out.

Probably too many clicks for Imma, so maybe not.

Just a thought. Delete and ban if warranted.

Is the "Can you help me" forum too open?  Are you trying to limit exposure of your info/ discussion?

It's been my experience that if you post a question in there, you'll typically get some razzing and funny comments; but Surly also delivers on the counsel and advice.  We are fuck ups, and in fucking up, you gain a lot of experience.

don't opt into @lawdogs, it's a cesspool of misery, alcoholism or recovering ones, and just a bunch of other weirdos.

@High Plains Drifter can correct me if I'm wrong, but the tagging would happen in a public post. So if you have a legal question, you can tag @lawdogs and all the ambulance chasers will be notified of the post and come calling. I suppose if you tag @assholes, they whole board would be notified.

No to both your questions. I certainly don't mind the razzing and humor, in fact I expect and like it. And you are correct, surly can and frequently does deliver good advice. Just thinking about a way to throw up a flag that more people who might want to see it can see it.

Two things Surly loves:

-criticizing attorneys

-free legal advice

It may be free, but at least it’s bad.

Chad Briscoe would be notified twice.

Or was that Rudy? Or Carl? I forget who was multi-assholed.

First, it would require me to have knowledge of how to do a call out of one person.  Once I figure that out I will jump in with my expertise.

I guess the is the "Fuck all y'all" notification request
